I went to my local REI and tried them on, walked around the store for a few minutes. I loved the way they fit, the way they felt; I knew I was going to get a pair. I left the store without purchasing them. My girlfriend ended up getting them for me for Christmas. We went out running today. The weather was sunny, temp was 22 degrees, there was a light breeze, the trail had a light covering of snow with ice underneath. Usually I will slow down and be cautious of my foot placement...not today. I was able to maintain my pace and soon I settled in and stopped worrying about foot placement and just ran. I LOVE these shoes!!! Comfortable, awesome traction, I definitely recommend getting these shoes! I am planning on getting another pair :) Oh, the speedlace system works great, I did not have to stop to tighten my shoe laces. Comments about Mens Salomon Speedcross 3 Trail Running Shoe: Just purchased these and have already put 22 miles on them. These shoes are ideal on and off trails, rugged or flat terrain. They gripped nicely to any surface I put in front of them. The design is solid and comfy, as a personal preference I prefer just a tad bit more cushioning. But they in no way lack comfort and stability. I live and work in Yosemite National Park and and constantly hike year round, and these are now my go to shoes. Salomon is now my first choice in outdoor footwear. Pros

Comments about Mens Salomon Speedcross 3 Trail Running Shoe: Great shoe! Only problem is the Upper ripped during only my 2nd run, and has slowly continued since. I really beat up shoes and these have lasted quite a few miles, even with the torn upper!
Comments about Mens Salomon Speedcross 3 Trail Running Shoe: I love these shoes so far! A great secure fit with no hot spots after my first 100 miles. I use the speedcross 3 shoes for fast hiking and trail running. I like the stiffer sole and the cleated treads better than other trail runners I've used in the past. They should be used strictly for trails and off-road though so be careful when running on hard surfaces. Comments about Mens Salomon Speedcross 3 Trail Running Shoe: I use these shoes for playing softball. They are very comfortable and light. Other softball players have gone to this shoe rather than the conventional softball shoe. So far so good. Comments about Mens Salomon Speedcross 3 Trail Running Shoe: My husbands loves these running shoes this is his second pair! He feels like he is walking on a cloud and loves the traction! Comments about Mens Salomon Speedcross 3 Trail Running Shoe: I really love these shoes for IDPA & USPSA matches. I'd give them 5 stars if they would just make them in 2E. Comments about Mens Salomon Speedcross 3 Trail Running Shoe: I was looking for a shoe that worked as well as my Solomon boots did on the trails I was running on but lighter... Here they are.

Comments about Mens Salomon Speedcross 3 Trail Running Shoe: Got these just in time for a sloppy and difficult 50k and they ran flawlessly! No break-in period and comfortable right out of the box. Balance of light-weight, sturdy materials, cushioning, traction, price. Not the shoe I run TO the trail - but definitely the go-to shoes for my trail runs!

Comments about Mens Salomon Speedcross 3 Trail Running Shoe: I've got 170 miles in these shoes, and they have been my favorite shoe I have owned, except the wear. They would probably be perfect on soft conditions like moist forrest trails. But in the dry, rocky southwest, the lugs just don't hold up. If I could afford it, I would buy these over and over. As I just got into ultra, that would get expensive fast.

Comments about Mens Salomon Speedcross 3 Trail Running Shoe: I restarted a new ultra season and run into desert mountain in AZ. I had the salomon speedcross 3 for about a month maybe a little more and the bottom is a 1/3 worn already. I had the crossmax during my previous season and they lasted the all season no problem and they were feeling awesome. when I gain speed on the way down, I am always worried to fall because of the lack of a good grip. Did not have that happening with the crossmax. So a little disappointed and will probably exchange those if possible.

Comments about Mens Salomon Speedcross 3 Trail Running Shoe: I just put these shoes to the test by doing Rim2Rim2Rim in which I ran from the South rim of the Grand Canyon to the North rim and back. It consists of 42 miles with 11k feet of elevation gain. The shoes were great. The lugs worked really well to give me traction on the downhills and uphills and there are a lot of those. Ventilation was great. They do a great job of keeping dust and gravel out of the shoe, yet they breath really well. I ended up with a small blister on the side of my big toe, which I didn't notice until my shoe was off. Not bad after 42 miles.

Comments about Mens Salomon Speedcross 3 Trail Running Shoe: I bought these shoes while picking up a pair of flats since I like to do a lot of trail running and have always used my regular running shoes in the past. So this being my first experience with trail shoes, it isn't very authoritative.

Comments about Mens Salomon Speedcross 3 Trail Running Shoe: Shoe felt tight in the toe box at first, but once on the trail, it felt like a perfect fit. Great traction in mud and gravel.

Comments about Mens Salomon Speedcross 3 Trail Running Shoe: I run trails that throw everything from mud to rocks at you and these shoes handle it all. Exceptional traction on both climbing and descents and soles stick to rocks like glue.

Comments about Mens Salomon Speedcross 3 Trail Running Shoe: I was a little worried about the numerous comments on the narrow toe box but found these to be just right....this coming from someone who splays their toes.

Comments about Mens Salomon Speedcross 3 Trail Running Shoe: This is a really good shoe but there were two drawbacks that keep it from being great. First, there is a stretchy inner sleeve underneath the tounge which makes the fit a little uncomfortable if you have a high instep, which I do. Not so bad as to effect circulation but enough to be annoying. Secondly, the adjustable quick loop lace system does not work well with models of trail gaiters that require being looped in to the lace. It ends up synching the lace very tightly and pulling all the pressure to the front of the lace box.

Comments about Mens Salomon Speedcross 3 Trail Running Shoe: Okay, don't pay much attention to my catagory "check marks" above because they are too narrow to choose. I would give these 4 1/2 stars if I could. Taking away 1/2 because the rocks and roots "go right through" the forefoot of the sole. Of course they don't go through, but you can feel every rock or root to a high degree (smaller rocks). The complete opposite of my saucony Xodus's which are a great trail shoe as well. So, why the Speedcross's? Well the traction is the best and the cushion (minus the forefoot on smaller rocks) is pretty good. I run and maintain a 3 miles trail in Georgia and yes it is in the Georgia clay. This clay is a beast. It gets super hard from errosion and heat and then those areas are like a hard slippery slope when wet. The Xodus's just don't dig into that enough while the Speedcross's tear it up. The Speedcrosses also handle the muck (where the erosion ends up sitting on the trail) quite well and are "water resistent". Water will come through if you are slow... so "go like heck" through the mud and water. Of course these shoes are pretty much "spikes" in that pavement is out of the question in my mind (I don't even like going over a road that crosses my trail - careful on wet slopped pavement, you'll bust it). I do wear them to the trail head (over pavement), but I often take them off and go bare foot back to the car (on the pavement). Finally, sorry to all English teachers out there, I was just to lazy to figure out if it was Xodus's, Xodus', Speedcross's or Speedcrosses or somewhere in between.

Comments about Mens Salomon Speedcross 3 Trail Running Shoe: I just bought these the other day and I have to say that I am very pleased with my money spent. I recently just started to run more trails and already had a pair of New Balance Minimus Trail shoes but my feet would be really sore from all the sharp rocks I would step on with the very thin soles. So I decided to buy a new and more rugged pair of shoes to help.

Comments about Mens Salomon Speedcross 3 Trail Running Shoe: A very neutral, nimble shoe that excels off road. Liked the first pair so much I got a second.

Comments about Mens Salomon Speedcross 3 Trail Running Shoe: These are excellent trail running shoes (emphasize on trail). You don't want to run in these on pavement for an extended period of time. I've bought a couple of different brands of trail running shoes including Saucony, The North Face and Adidas and these are by far the best. I only wear these on the trails though...they aren't very practical as everyday shoes or for the roads. The lacing system provides a very snug fit. I have a narrow foot and love that the toe box isn't huge. These are also much lighter than other trail shoes I have bought. Very satisfied overall.
