I have narrow feet and do a lot of speed hiking on steep trails. These shoes are great for me and they literally stick to the trail. I think the treads would wear quickly if you used them on the road though. I usually order a half size up for trail shoes but this shoe runs a bit long so just order your street shoe size. The reason I gave it four stars and not five is because of the laces. I have a sensitive area on the top of my foot so I like to skip a hole in my laces so it doesn't hit that part of my foot. With the Salomon integrated lacing system, that isn't possible and I can't swap out the laces because the eyelets are too small. These our fine for shorter hikes and trail runs ( less than six miles), but I don't wear them on longer ones. Having said that, these shoes are incredibly comfortable. My husband has them too and he LOVES them.
Narrow footed trail runner and hiker
These shoes are great for trail running. They are rugged but also light and springy. I run trails a few times a week and have used brooks cascadia for years. I decided to branch out to try something new and I love the spring in these shoes. They also come in a waterproof version so I have 2 pairs.
The lacing system did break on my first pair after about 50 miles (about 3 weeks), but RRS was quick to replace them for me. Somehow one of the laces popped out of the tightening track. Hopefully the second pair holds up! This is the reason I gave them 4 and not 5 stars.

Great Quality - Lacing System an Issue
I purchased these for mixed condition winter running. I must send them back because the lacing configuration is fixed and hurts the top of my foot. I didn't even have an opportunity to run in them. They create pressure points atop my foot. I wear prescription orthotics and the lacing configuration does not allow me to adjust this. Was directed to purchase 1/2 size larger and this was incorrect. Would be a great shoe for someone with out orthotics.

walking in the clouds
These shoes are the best I have ever had for trail run so far. They are very comfortable and snug enough so your feet don't move inside the the shoes while running in the rough trails. They are so light and the bottom inside the shoes are so cushioned and you feel like running or walking in the clouds! The soles have better grip than other road running shoes so you do easily slide in the down hill on the trails. Great shoes and fieve stars!

My new favorite!
Been trying to walk/run at age 50, heel spurs, plantar fasciitis, and knee pain were no problem with this shoe! Comfortable right out of the box. Wide toe box, supreme cushioning! Didn't need to order up 1/2 size either. Fit great! This won't be my last pair! Water resistant, NOT water proof, but fixed that with the spray repellent, and have worn these all winter long in snow and slush! Feet stayed dry.

Very supportive shoe and suprisingly good fit in the heel (I wear a 2A in regular running shoes). Ordered due to other reviews. I am returning this pair, because they run about 1/2 size too long. The 9.5, compared to my other 9.5 running shoes, is about 3/4 inch longer, closer to a 10. I have ordered another pair 1/2 size down and will post a workout review after wearing the new pair.
Comfy but Not Well-FItted for Foot
These run long (nice for toe room) but this made them too big at the typical 1/2 size up -- and felt slightly too small at my standard shoe size.
The lacing system also doesn't allow for tying-in the ankle better, so I had concerns about the shoe being too loose at the top, too.
Anyway, I never took these to the trail because I wanted to be able to return them.
Otherwise, these felt and looked great.
Great for trail run
AWESOME trail shoes. I have tried all different brands and Salomon is THE best for trail running, hands down. Speed cross are great...very durable, light, good cushioning, good traction, and fits true to size. I have two pairs!
Despite the reviews, I went with my normal size. I live in AZ and love hiking year round. Great traction for the trails/climbs we have here. I was a little worried about the sole being too "rugged" for when the trails are flat, but they are great.
Salomons are the best!
Love Salomon. Best shoes for the trail, hands down! very durable, very good traction and very light with good support. I don't think they are water proof so might not work in wet conditions.
I love these shoes. Several short trail runs this weeks and I'm kicking myself for not buying proper trail runners earlier. Mud, rocks, hills, uneven footing, I never felt unsure of my steps. My runs were only 3-4 miles, but I've had no soreness or blisters...they ran great right out of the box.
Love this shoe!
Very happy with these shoes. Great cushioning and great traction on trails, even over the fallen leaves!
Nothing will stop you
I run rugged trails and these Salamon's are excellent! Worth every penny
I like these!
Good for trail running..they also support my ankles which I need.
