Good 2nd step watch for beginners

Comments about Timex Ironman Road Trainer Mid Monitors:
I am still new to the running world and am focusing on building my endurance while maintaining a target heart rate. This is my second heart-rate monitor watch after having used a "beginner" model for the last 2 years.
Pros:
- You can view both your heart rate and elapsed time on the same screen at the same time
- easy to take "split" time
- you can track your HR recovery
Cons:
- hard to find your calories burned; also it appears to calculate a higher burn rate than I've seen on other HR models
- functions aren't intuitive - I often find I haven't "stopped" my time at the end of a workout because I didn't hit the right series of buttons

Overall I think this is a good "next step" for beginners but you may need to read the manual a few times to understand how to work the additional functions.
