Comments about Mens Vibram FiveFingers SeeYa Running Shoe:

I purchased as a replacement to a 3 yr old pair of KSOs. My usual running routes are about 30% sidewalks, 55% loose gravel trails and 15% single track dirt trails with frequent rocks. That said, these shoes offer more cushion against rocks than my old KSOs did. Additionally, they are noticeably lighter and more breathable.

I have put on about 120 miles since purchasing and wear does not appear excessive. The stitching is fine and all the rubber on the bottom appears to be barely worn, aside from the yellow "Vibram" tag that sticks up a little in the mid-foot area and that is now almost illegible.

One big advantage is the insole. The KSOs come with a kangaroo leather that smells like death after about two weeks. My Seeyas, on the other hand, still have a new shoe smell inside! The down side is that they seem to retain more water than the KSOs so they're not good for splashing through puddles.

The rubber on the bottom is thick enough where necessary, but minimal elsewhere which helps with flexibility. The rubber around the toe pockets are not as stiff as the KSOs, which seems to be more agreeable with my toe nails. Conversely, they are not as "sticky" on slick rock and other smooth, steep surfaces. But then again, the friction heat that builds on a treadmill does not become intolerable as quickly as it does with KSOs.

I would highly recommend these to those who enjoy running in VFFs, and have been doing it for a while. They are like a comfortably worn pair of KSOs right out of the box and they are supple enough to be used on rocks with carefully placed steps. I don't expect that they'll last as long as a pair of KSOs, but it appears that they'll last a while longer than most other running shoes I've worn.

Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
