Comments about Womens Vibram FiveFingers Jaya Running Shoe:

I started wearing VFF shoes five years ago, before they became part of this "barefoot movement." I bought a pair of the Sprint because I liked the strap that kept the shoe on my foot. I was in love. These were wonderful, except for the "collar" (back of the shoe) that dug into the top of my heel. I bought about 3 more pairs of Sprints over the years, in different colors of course, and wore them every day throughout the summer and fall. Jeans, shorts, skirts—doesn't matter, I wore them everywhere. But that heel would bother me occasionally, so I was a little annoyed... Then the Jaya came out this year with a PADDED COLLAR. Goodbye Sprints, hello Jaya! These are now my everyday shoes. They don't have the strap, but it's unnecessary. I just wish they came in more colorways (for some reason men's VFF have better color selections).

The two main differences between the Sprint and the Jaya are the thickness of the sole, and the amount of upper coverage. The Sprint has a thinner (3.5mm) sole and less coverage on top of the foot; the Jaya has a noticeably thicker sole (5.5mm) and more coverage. The Jaya also has rubber "performance" pads that the Sprint doesn't have. These all make the Jaya a slightly more substantial shoe, not as lightweight nor minimalist as the Sprint. BUT, the cushiony heel collar on the Jaya make all these other features worth it!

A lot of people stop and ask me about these funny-looking shoes. I call them my "gecko shoes." They may not be for everyone. If you really don't like toe socks, or don't like the feeling or look of each individual toe separated, then you may not like this shoe. But if you want pure, absolute comfort, ability to wear shoes that protect your feet from the elements yet provide minimal support, which really is best for your back, then these are the perfect shoes.
