Comments about Mens Altra Olympus Trail Running Shoe:

I have run 30 trail miles so far with my Olympus, and all I can say is: I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE THEM!!! Lots of toe room (I was worried that my foot might slip in the shoe when running downhill with the large toe box, but that was NOT the case). I have a neuroma, so I need a lot of forefoot padding, and this shoe delivers! It protects my feet like a hiking boot (but softer to the sole of feet), yet runs like a trail shoe. No foot pain at all! Now, if Altra has a lighter version of this, without sacrificing the forefoot cushion, I'd buy those too (use the Olympus for trail training, and a lighter version for trail races).

Comments about Womens Altra Olympus Trail Running Shoe:

The only con I can think of is that it is a bit heavier than I am used to in a shoe. Especially for racing. For short races I still wear my Newtons, which have a low drop and a wide toe box. But really, the Altra is otherwise the perfect shoe. The fact of the matter is, it is as light as it can be considering all of the cushion.
For years I ran in the five finger shoes. I loved the zero drop and toe spread. But, even in the trail versions, most surfaces were punishing to run on. Then a broken toe (unrelated to running) made it impossible to fit my toes in the spots. When Altras came around I said, "FINALLY!" But I would switch over to the cushion-ie Hokas for long runs to save my legs- nice lower drop shoe but tiny toe box. Now they made my favorite shoe even better for the long runs by adding all of the cushion. I can REALLY have the best of ALL worlds? Toe spread, flat and true zero drop, AND cushion?? Thank you, Altra!!!!!
Every time I put them on, or just catch them in my eye in the mudroom, I think, "finally!!"
I'm wearing them for my next marathon.
