This versatile, lightweight running shoe is great for speedwork and cushioned enough for long runs. The new HOKA ONE ONE RINCON has a lot of fans.
If you’re looking for a no-fuss running shoe that has just the right amount of cushion and is effortlessly light, the versatile HOKA ONE ONE RINCON might be the right running shoe for you.
WHAT’S SPECIAL ABOUT THE HOKA ONE ONE RINCON? The Top Three Things
THE REVISED EARLY STAGE META-ROCKER: MORE PROPULSION
Want to go fast? This shoe is speedy. HOKA updated the early stage Meta-Rocker (the part of the shoe that propels you forward when running- a HOKA specialty) to increase acceleration. This makes the RINCON a great fit for speedwork and gives you that extra pop of energy you need when running longer distances. The faster heel-to-toe transition is such a benefit.
ITS ELEGANTLY SIMPLE DESIGN: A LIGHTWEIGHT RIDE
Reviewers are calling the RINCON, ‘no-nonsense’ and ‘a lot of fun.’ Why? Because it’s simple. It’s not an ultra-plush shoe like the BONDI 6 or an aggressive race-day shoe like the CARBON X. It’s a lightweight shoe that features that always-on marshmallowy cushioned goodness HOKA is known for. It packs the right amount of foam to support joints while maintaining a lightweight, effortless ride. This makes it possibly the most versatile shoe in HOKA’s current line-up.
THAT SINGLE-LAYER MESH UPPER: A BETTER, BREATHABLE FIT
The single-layer mesh upper is extra breathable and contributes to an overall lighter design. HOKA cross-stitched the stitching on the inside to make sure it still holds its shape and locks your foot in so you don’t have to worry about your foot sliding around or annoying heel slippage.
WHO ARE THE HOKA ONE ONE RINCONs BEST FOR?
These shoes are best for neutral runners looking for a shoe that can tackle both speed work and long runs. Neutral shoes like the RINCON 6 are best for neutral runners but can also be used by runners who supinate. Not sure if you supinate? Look at the wear marks on your shoe. If they’re on the outer edges, you might be a supinator. If you pronate (the wear and tear will show on the inner edges of your shoe), consider a stability shoe like the HOKA ONE ONE Arahi 3.
The RINCON is unique in that it offers a firmer foam base than the CLIFTON 6 or BONDI 6 and pairs that with its ultra-airy, breathable single-layer mesh upper. This dynamic combo means that this shoe is light enough for speedy miles and cushioned enough for longer distances. Our run testers really felt the speed when running in this shoe. It’s a no-fuss shoe that’s built to go fast.
Let’s dive into how it stacks up against other HOKA family favorites:
The RINCON versus the CLIFTON 6
The RINCON is lighter than the CLIFTON 6 (7.7 ounces versus 9.0 ounces for men and 6.3 ounces versus 7.4 ounces) but features the same, luxurious signature HOKA ONE ONE® cushioning and full-ground contact design for great traction. The RINCON’s upper is made of a single layer of engineered mesh, which contributes to an overall lighter design. Some testers suggest that the CLIFTON 6 might be slightly more durable but not as fast and light as the Rincon.

The RINCON versus the BONDI 6
The BONDI is HOKA’s most cushioned shoe, but that doesn’t mean the RINCON skimps on cushion. The BONDI’s outsole is generally considered to be the widest and most durable and the enhanced heel collar boasts ample padding and heel-lockdown capabilities. Because of the ample cushioning, the Bondi has a very plush feel while the Rincon is more balanced, which lends the RINCON to a more connected ride. The BONDI is smoother but the RINCON is faster. The RINCON versus the CARBON X
The RINCON and the record-breaking CARBON X both feature similar super breathable, thin mesh uppers. While the CARBON X is known for its bouncy responsiveness, the RINCON boasts a more balanced feel between bouncy and plush. HOKA positions the CARBON X as built for speed thanks to its carbon fiber plate which is built for propulsion and an accelerated toe-off. But it lacks heel cushioning which some find jarring. So if you want more cushion, opt for the balanced ride of the RINCON, CLIFTON or the ultra-plush BONDI. But if you’re all about trying something new (and fast!) try out the pricier but very much hyped CARBON X.
WHY YOU WANT THESE SHOES
You’ll get a balanced, lightweight, airy and speedy ride. It’s one of those shoes that just feels right. It’s no-nonsense, fun and an overall winner.
