About Athletes Helping athletes

Remember how much fun you had as a kid riding bikes with your family and friends? That exact same feeling of fun and freedom is what the Athletes of AHA get to experience when they hop on their brand new Adaptive Bike for the first time.

Your donations allow each eligible athlete to receive a custom built Adaptive Bike from AHA. Plus, AHA is 100% supported by Road Runner Sports! Together, AHA and Road Runner Sports ensure that all of your donations go to purchasing Adaptive Bike so that 100% of the cost is covered for each family.

You’d be amazed at the power an Adaptive Bike has to take a child from being stuck on the sidelines to becoming a full participant in the fun! Giving kids this gift offers them the chance to ride bikes with friends and family, set personal goals, and simply feel the joy of being a kid.

Thank you for your commitment to giving children with disabilities the opportunity to go fast, be free, and have fun!

Zachary: Age 5

Zachary is like any other vibrant 5-year-old boy in so many ways. He’s wiggly, he’s giggly, and he’s a ball of energy. He loves to be outside and play, he adores animals, and he’s incredibly strong-willed. He’s had to be. He was born with Spina Bifida, a spinal defect that’s left him without the use of his legs. He’s already had 15 major back and brain surgeries, 2 within the first week of his life. “They are often scary and painful,” says his mom Sherry. Zachary also has an able-bodied twin sister, Lilianna. Their mom and dad have watched her reach all of childhood’s major milestones - learning to crawl, to walk, and ride a bike - while Zachary sat on the sidelines. But, not anymore! Now that Zachary has his own handcycle from Athletes Helping Athletes, he’s off the sidelines and racing with Lilianna and his whole family in their neighborhood, nearby parks, and even on family road trips. “It’s red and fast,” Zachary says with an ear-to-ear grin. “I can ride it on speed 3!” Watch Zachary go!

change a life!

You might be surprised to know that Adaptive Bike can cost between $2,000 and $4,500 a piece and are often too expensive for families to purchase on their own. Your donation will help cover these cases and have the power to change a child's life forever

Letter from mike G

Dear Friend,

First off, you deserve a heartfelt thank you for caring about the kids of Athletes Helping Athletes! Like my wife Flona and I, you can understand how sports are powerful vehicles for changing the world.

Now, think about what it means to introduce a disabled child to an adaptive Bike and you'll see how you can really change someone's world. it's amazing I've seen it many times!.

We were inspired to create AHA when we saw that most other charities can't cover the full cost of these pricey bikes- they can run upwards of $4,500! That's just out of reach for so many families!

For the past 18 years, people just like you made it possible for AHA to provide more than 1,267 Adaptive Bikes to deserving children all around the country!

Your open hearts have allowed us to never turn away a family in-need, and that's just awesome!!.

Together, we are changing lives and making a difference, it all starts with helping children with disabilities go fast with their family and friends, so they can break free and just be kids!

Please give today!

Sincerely,

Chief Runner/Owner of Road Runner Sports
