Cody Mace

Dear Athletes Helping Athletes,

I would like to get a handcycle so that I could use it for cross training for track. Because I would like to get a scholarship for track. Someday I would like to make it to the Paralympics. To do so I would love to have a handcycle. So, I could use it to have stamina also to work on different muscles that racing doesn't strengthen. So in the long run, it would make me a better all around athlete in the other sports I compete. For example: Basketball, track and field. That is why I wish that I could get a handcycle. It would further my training to be able to reach my full potential and reach my goals and dreams.

To Athletes Helping Athletes

I would like to introduce my son Cody Mace to your organization. He is 17 years old and is a junior at Rogers High School in Spokane, Wa. He has been a member of his high school cross-country, track, and field varsity team for three years. He competes with the able body athletes on the track. He competes in basketball on the Northwest wheelchair team. He has earned his high school letter in both sorts for three years some of his accomplishments are setting the national record last year I the javelin and almost in the discus. He received the spirit of excellence award in archery. Cody was picked to represent the USA last year in Australia with the WSUSA for juniors. He brought home 4 gold medals and most exciting one for him was for the basketball team. Cody went to Atlanta, Georgia for a Paralympics training camp and won an essay to attend the Paralympics training camp in Colorado Springs. Cody competed at the Peachtree road race, he also competes at the races: St. Paddy's Race, Spring Dash, Sunday Sundae Run, Bloomsday, Spokane Marathon, and Coeur d alene Marathon and other races when his schedule allows and whether the races are racer friendly getting a handcycle would help him be able to cross train. There is an adult racer who is promoting handcycling (crankers) in our area (Jerry Martin) he has helped Cody a lot in racing and basketball. Some others who have helped Cody are Paul Hill, John Rees, Jacob Heiveil, and Tyler Byers. Cody's goals are to always improve his times and skills. He also would like to go to college and be part of a college wheelchair sports program. His big dream is to qualify for the Paralympics someday. If you could find someway to bless him with a handcycle, he would be very appreciative and he would be a great spokesman for your organization. We would really appreciate your help. We had to purchase a new racer for him because his old one was cracking and welding didn't hold.
