Your CrossFit Gear Questions Answered
If you're looking for an exercise program that's made to adapt to all fitness levels, then CrossFit might be perfect for you! You'll quickly elevate your fitness levels and see results in the blink of an eye. At the core of CrossFit's philosophy is the idea of broad, general and inclusive fitness. This means you'll become an overall fitness FREAK.
All of the exercises in CrossFit can be modified to your fitness level. Whether you need to do assisted pull-ups using resistance bands, or less weight on a specific exercise, you'll always be able to compete with your fellow CrossFitters using a modified workout that fits your fitness level.
What can I expect in a CrossFit workout?
The movements executed in a CrossFit gym are derived the most basic and common occurring physical tasks found in the real-world. The father of CrossFit, Greg Classman, sought to form a training program that would give its trainees the most fundamental and well-rounded level of fitness that would lend itself to all sport. He defined fitness as "increased work capacity across broad times and modal domains."
CrossFit workouts are made of several components including but not limited to Olympic weight lifting, power lifting, gymnastics, and mobility exercises. Each CrossFit workout includes a Workout-Of-The-Day (WOD) which defines a group of exercises and either a time limit or a rep limit. The goal of the WOD is to either do as many repetitions and possible in a given time period, or to see how fast you can complete a given amount of repetitions.
What's the deal with weightlifting shoes?
You can lift heavier weight when you wear weight lifting shoes. Instead of wasting force through the squishy heel of a normal running shoe, you're able to use that force toward lifting your weight. Weight lifting shoes have a wooden or composite heel that doesn't squish or compress under heavy loads.
Weight lifting shoes have a raised heel that allows for a greater degree of flexion at the ankle joint. This allows the lifter to get lower into their squat without their heels lifting off the floor (which is a big NO-NO in weight lifting!) Weight lifters that are inflexible and have problems taking their lifts low will benefit from the raised heel of weightlifting shoes.
What should you wear to a CrossFit class?
You'll be sweating up a storm in the majority of CrossFit Boxes around the country. Feel as fresh as possible in a shirt that can take the punishment you're about to put it through. You can't go wrong with the Men's Reebok Tri-Blend or the Women's CrossFit Tri Blend.
Train in comfort, getting the mobility and sweat-free performance you'll need in a CrossFit box with perfect CrossFit shorts. You'll walk in looking like a seasoned vet wearing the Reebok Cordura Board Short or the CrossFit Endurance Short.
