The best shoes I have ever purchased!

5

This is the best shoe I have ever worn! I am a competitive ultra-runner and I train and run all of my races in these shoes. Most of my races are trail, but when I run through river crossings and climb mountains these shoes pass the test. Forget buying trail shoes in California, this is all you need! I have broken 2 course records this year in these shoes: A 50 mile race with 18,0000 feet elevation gain and a 24 hour race (110 miles). I am on my 13th pair! Love them! I have worn both the men's and women's. I have such big feet that it is sometimes difficult to get an 11 women's, so I just buy what is in stock. Only con is they wear out quickly, so it gets expensive.

Love it! Better than the Speedstar 3

5

I run 30 -60 miles a week and always run in these shoes. I will also be running a 50 miler in them in 2 weeks. I love this shoe because it is lightweight, fits like a glove and has a pillowy cushion in both the heel and forefoot. This update feels more glove like than its predecessor, another reviewer said "slipper like" and I would agree, perhaps due to the different lacing?? They have removed the toe cap thingy from the front of the shoe and this shoe feels much more flexible and cushioned (solyte?) than the previous version. The toebox is definitely narrower than before and in my opinion (after wearing it)it is a lighter shoe. Great shoe for a lightweight neutral runner looking to go fast.

Feels like racing flats

4

This update from the Speedstar 3 is good but not perfect. I like the overall feel. To me they have more of the slipper like feel of racing flats but with more cushion. My only real negative comment is they narrowed the toe box and I like having a wide toe box. I was worried they may cause blisters to my toes on a longer run, but I wore them at the Boston Marathon after only having put a little less than 30 miles on them and finished without any blisters or other problems. (I even PR'd with a 2:58:03.) They definitely had plenty of support for a full marathon if you a biomechanically efficient runner.

Almost there

If I rated this shoes after my first run, they would have received a maximum of 3 stars. I was initially unimpressed with the lacing system, which I still consider to be a gimmick, and fit, but after 100+ miles, I'm beginning to come around to them. They still retain most of the characteristics of the Speedstar 2, which to me, is the highwater mark of any shoe ever made. Even though it isn't the Speedstar 2, it deserves 5 stars because it's still so much better than the vast majority of running shoes out there. A light, durable, and fast shoe for those of us with high arches.

Not Just For Lightwieght Runners

4

I am on my 9th marathon this year and have a bit of a running shoe obsession. As a +200 pound runner living in Florida I have been looking for a neutral shoe with enough cushioning but without a bulky upper that gets heavy when wet. I tried the Brooks Launch but quickly returned them as lacking cushioning. These Asics are a perfect race or training complement to my heavier trainers when wieght is important (i.e. hills). Best part is they dry out quickly because of the minimal upper.

These are excellent. They ...

5

These are excellent. They have the lightness and quickness of performance trainer for workouts/tempos but also protection that makes them feel almost just as cushiony as my daily trainer. Because of this I can do anything from a tempo run at 5:50 pace in them or an 8 min pace super-slow shakeout in them and it feels like I have the right shoe on. Very versatile is what I'm trying to say. I'm very happy with these. The only thing is that I'm not sure how durable they will turn out to be. I think these can make a great half-marathon/marathon racer for me too! I used to run tempo stuff in the Nike Zoom Marathoner. These feel a lot better than the Marathoner. The Marathoners may look a little cooler though. But I hope we see these types of shoes stay in circulation out there. It's hard to find a good neutral performance trainer and I'm not crazy about the DS-Trainers out there perhaps because of the added stability aspect.

too tight

I'm sure these are great shoes if you have narrow feet. I have wide feet and always use Asics and they're always great, but on these shoes the logo digs into the sides of my feet. Alas. I had high hopes for them.

These have made me an ASICS fan

5

My first pair of Ascis after finally giving up on Nike's latest junk. With high arches and a shade over D width, this shoe does it on both counts as a 50 mile per week 155 lb. runner who loves lighter weight shoes. Durability(300 miles so far)on upper (excellent support), sole and heal have been great. Just a tad more bounce and speed would be nice. Adios Nike!

Asics Speedstar

My son really likes these shoes! We got them for the track season and at his first meet ran in two winning relays and placed second in the mile. He liked these shoes when he tried them on, he loves them now! He really appreciates their lightness and comfort--felt better than all the others...even other Asics.

Best all around shoe I've ever tried

5

Great shoe; I'm training for marathons and this shoe is one that you can use day after day, for long 3+ hours runs or for your speed work with no issues. It tends to wear out a little above average. I've done 120 mks on it and the small threads on the soil are starting to fade slightly.

Surprisingly Comfortable

Was not sure about these. Always worn Kayano's. Bought these for speed. I think they will do the trick. Would recommend that you wear them for short runs until the big event. I plan to marathon in these but not in training. Very lightweight.

5

As a retired competitive runner, I have just resumed a 25 mile a week running schedule. My days of running marathons and 10ks every weekend are over. However, I will run a few 5k races. I purchased these Asics for that purpose. I have worn them once doing a speed workout. I am well pleased.

Excellent shoe

5

This update to the Speedstar-3 kept all that was good about the prior model and only changed the lacing (not noticeably different in terms of feel) and color. This is a great shoe and holds up well to high mileage (I average 80-110 mpw).

An Excellent Light shoe

5

This shoe is light, and I don't feel that I've sacrificed any cushioning as a tradeoff, I've been running in neutral cushioned shoes for years and I'm sold on running in the lightest shoes possible. This shoe gives me the best of both worlds. I highly recommend it.

Excellent light-weight fast racing shoe

5

Perhaps more traditionally a racing shoe, I use the Asics Speedster for training as well, as I like to wear as light a shoe as possible, one that doesn't impede in the natural motion and feel of my feet. It's also one of the most comfortable, "natural" feeling shoes I have ever worn, and looks great too!

FINALLY!!!

5

Best speedstar yet - even better than the Speedstar 2 - and I truly miss the Epirus - Doing Boston in April, I'm 58 been running a very long time and have done a few long runs in the Speedstar 4, a half marathon and as a bandit in the Miami marathon (did 20 miles)- not only did I run fast and with comfort but NO INJURIES!!! That says a lot about the Speedstar 4.

yea and if you're a guy and only run 20min5k and/or do not run at least 50-60+mpw, you have no business in these shoes, and def shouldnt review them with comments on looks. You might want to get some Nike Shox instead. These are performance trainers for competitive runners. I just ordered them. Even though i dont care much about color, I must admit though that it's nice to have a cool color on the 4s because if you're going to wear them many times per week on faster paced easy runs, it's fun to look cool.
