Shoes were purchased specifically for Arizona Trail running which contains a mix of sand and rough rocky terrain. The GOOD or EVEN GREAT: 1. Tread is aggressive and holds the trails with no slipping uphill or downhill. 2. Great support. No rolling or inside edge crushing noted. Holds tight to my feet. 3. Best cushioning I have had in a trail shoe. 4. No shin splints (My former NIKE shoes caused major shin splint pain.) THE ONE AND ONLY BAD: 1. The AZ trails I run on destroyed the edges of the shoes where the segmented tread adheres to the "foam" sides and "foam" bottoms of the shoes. (Segmented tread meaning it does not have one solid patch of tread rubber from front to back of the shoe (the Mizuno Wave is one piece and holds up 100% better). The Brooks Ad-ASR8 is segmented and shows the foam between the segments of the rubber tread.) **TIME FRAME: 3-months of trail running 3 to 4 days each week.** At each corner of the segmented tread the rocks tore the rubber away from the foam. The segmented tread then started to pull away from the shoe. For this reason alone I returned the Brooks Adrenalin ASR 8 shoes. SUMMARY: These were the best running or trail shoes I have ever owned in all aspects except the tread pulling away from the shoe. If you are not running on trails with sharp rocks then these shoes are GREAT, maybe even the BEST. After returning the brooks I tried a pair of Mizuno Wave trail shoes. After running the same trails in the Mizuno Wave Trail shoes I wish I had my Brooks back for the comfort and cushioning of the rocks on the trail. (The Mizuno shoes were also good except I could feel every rock in the front of my feet. "see my Mizuno Wave trail shoe review for more") I never once felt the rocks with these Brooks shoes, and trust me there are many rocks on these AZ trails to feel. Moving on to an ASICS trail shoe next fall (I'm night street running in ASICS right now due to AZ summer heat). If the future ASICS trail shoes fail for any reason then I'll go back to the Brooks Adrenaline ASR 8 or the new ASR 9.
