Best shoe for trail running that has mixed terrain!!! Loved the flexibilty and the grip on all surfaces: sand, dirt, hills, gravel, water....Excellent fit, feels like a slipper. Gives great control over how the foot rolls and feel the trail underneath your feet! Fly fast with these shoes!
I bought these about a year ago and still love them. I orignally just bought them for crossfit and the gym. I have recently taken up running on the trails and havent had a problem. I probably need a new pair of shoes since they are over a year old and I have worn them quite a bit... but they are comfortable, light, fit well, and more. I have never had a problem with them rubbing on my ankles, I wear a 7.5 in shoes and bought these in a 7.5- not sure what that other reviewer was talking about. I would def recommend these and will probably by another pair since mine are old now.
Trails and Crossfit
Having been a long-time NB fan who occasionally enjoys a minimalist ride on mixed terrain, I couldn't wait to try these out. What a disappointment! The craftsmanship is far below NB standards, with poorly-finished seams that caused numerous hot spots and blisters on my heels and ankle areas. The inexplicably rigid plastic "N" logo attached to the side of the shoe left a bruise. Even after several break-in attempts they are still uncomfortable. Sorry NB; I remain loyal to the stability shoes, but this was an opportunity missed! Back to the Merrills...

I ran in them 5 miles out the box. They take some getting used to, though. Three days in a row I ran in them then started developing hot spots. This was in wet weather in Germany so maybe best to skip running outside in the rain. Buy 1/2 size up to really enjoy the run! Otherwise pain will ensue! ¿ Got a great deal at almost half off. Would not have bought these at regular price. Been in Brooks Ghost and Montrails for EVER. New to New Balance. May check out the newer version if I like these on a couple months. Happy Running
Good for road also
I have been wearing the Newton Racers since 08. Decided to try these out to get closer to barefoot running after a few injuries that would not heal. I have ran mainly on the road and 8 miles as the longest run so far. I am pretty happy with the hamstring injury not flaring up and no knee pain. Plan on 1/2 marathon (road) in March and maybe (depends on how 1/2 goes) a full with the shoes in fall. Very pleased with the feel of the shoe on road and trail.

Good shoes for mixed terrain
Bought these to interchange with my Bikila vibrams during marathon season.. I really have liked them other than..the first day I wore them I got terrible blisters..I normally don't wear socks when I run so I have to when I wear these shoes..They rub on the back of your heel and the laces are round and come undone so I normally just double knot them. I have run quite a few miles in them and they are very flexible and comfortable.

These shoes are my favorite trail runners. They've only been on a dozen 10+ mile runs and I do wear custom insoles, but so far they are extremely comfortable and lightweight. Fantastic if you like to go fast. Laces stay put and I've had zero hotspots. The Vibram rubber grips to everything, from dusty trail to granite (second best only to my climbing shoes) so they double well as lightweight approach shoes.

Great for the gym, too!
I can't run anymore, so I bought these to wear in the gym. They are perfect for squats, side to side motion, and anything else that requires balance and a firmly placed heel. LOVE these shoes.
Warning: I wear a 9.5 in sandals, 10 in regular closed shoes, 10.5 consistently in running shoes/sneakers, but I had to get these in an 11, and they feel better without socks.
Love this shoe
After transitioning to barefoot/forefoot running, I tried these shoes and I love them! I feel so free running in these. I honestly felt like a kid in high school cross-country again. I use them on the road as well as on trails. I wear a 9 normally, ordered a 9.5 and it fit perfectly- but I do run without socks.
Love this shoe!
I was a little nervous about trying the minimal shoes, but I love these! They're extremely comfortable, feel like a slipper instead of a running shoe. I wear them around the house, on errands, for weight training, and have slowly starting running in them. I wish there were more colors offered, I'd buy another pair!

Very comfortable and light.
This is my first barefoot sneaker and I can't believe how comfortable it is. I've worn them around the house for a week and just ran 1.25 miles today as well as walked 2 miles in them and they were very comfortable. Was worried about blisters, but didn't get any.

I bought these shoes for short sprints combined with weight lifting and other movements required for Crossfit. I would not do any significant distance in these shoes but they do fit very well and are super light. They are durable and transition well in the gym.

I really enjoy them but am having issues with the back or them rubbing on the back of my foot. I am hoping it's because they are new because I definitely don't want to wear socks with them. Overall all though, they feel great!
Just not for me.
I run about 3.5 miles 4 days a week. I thought I would try these to get the bare foot feeling. They were terrible for me. My feet hurt and I got I got shin splints for the first time. No need to say that I returned them immediately.
I love these shoes!
Fit like a glove, did an 18 miler with no discomfort. I wear socks; a must on my trail runs and have had no discomfort. Laces stay tied. My favorite trail shoes; i'll buy another pair soon.

My first minimalistic shoe, and I love the feel when I run.
The only thing I don't like is that I have to wear socks because there is something about the inner stitching that irritates my foot when I wear them bare.
Moving to the Second Pair
They're coming out with more colors...great!!
