I really love this new Ariel! I wore out two pair of the Ariel 14's and was really looking forward to seeing what this version had. This is a lighter shoe than the last version of the Ariel which I love. I was skeptical at first regarding the stability - it looked like they removed much of the stiff plastic that stabilized the motion of overpronation. I was very pleasantly surprised that the shoe still feels very supportive in a lighter form. The toe box feels wider than the previous shoe. I like that change but some may prefer a snugger toe box. I look forward to seeing if Brooks releases another color.
These fit like other Brooks shoes - You tend to need to size up from regular 'dress' shoes or street shoes.
Best shoe ever!
This shoe is very comfortable. It runs narrow so I got the wide with and half a size larger. Perfect. Arch support and pronation control are very good. This shoe feels like a custom orthotic for me. I have already ordered a second pair for later because I know it will be different next time. I like the color combination a lot. I wear this shoe for work. I had stopped walking for exercise until I got this shoe. I'm back up to four miles without pain.
Disappointing model change.
Very disappointing. I have been running in Brooks Ariels since 2002 and the "16" is the worst model yet. I have always worn a size 11 and this show is at least 1/2 size to large. For shoe that is supposed to be heavily cushioned this shoe feels like I'm running with a stiff board inside it. I thought I would get used to it after a couple of runs but that hasn't happened. I guess I'll try to find my old 14's or 15's or start looking for a replacement shoe.
The newest model of the Ariels is fantastic. It is lighter and more responsive than earlier models and has better cushioning. I have fallen arches. My pronation is fully controlled and the cushion leaves my legs feeling fresh.
The shoe is still heavier than non- motion comtrol models.
Best shoe for over-pronation
This is the best running, walking, hiking shoe for over-pronation that I've found. I tried others, including the other Brooks models made for over-pronating feet, but for me, the Ariel 16 is the winner. It runs a bit narrow (I usually wear a 9M, I bought a 9W), and with my DarnTough ankle (slightly padded) hiking socks, the shoe is perfect, with room in the toe box for my toes to spread out and enough depth so my toenails aren't crushed by the top of the shoe. If you're using a very thin sock, you may not need the extra width.
Great color, finally!
These shoes are very comfortable right out of the box. They are more light weight than Ariels I purchased years ago. I LOVE the color. I hope Brooks continues to make this shoe in dark colors.
Love these shoes! They are probably my 7th or 8th consecutive pair. I used to have knee issues and had rolled my ankles several times until I started using these shoes. They have wonderful wide stable platforms. And...something I have found in these shoes that I have not found in any others is an insole that refuses to break down! Other shoes I find the insole getting thinner and thinner under my heel and ball of foot...in these shoes the insole stays as thick as the day I bought them til the very end!
The Ariel 16 got narrow
After years of only wearing Ariels, I started to research a new running shoe.
The foot box hurt my toes, there was much less support.
Oh...now Brooks is introducing #18...stating the foot box is roomy.
Obviously there had been complaints from longtime wearers.
Brooks should offer an incentive discount to try #18...
My research proved there are other shoes out there for over pronation.
I'm an avid Brooks Ariel fan. Been wearing this style for years. Bought this pair, size 11, on August 31, 2017, and started wearing them on September 1, 2017. I only have 111.6 miles on them. Unfortunately for me, there are holes in the tops of both shoes above my big toe. First time in all the years that I've worn the Ariel that I've had this problem. I can usually get 350 miles out of a shoe...not this time. Very disappointed.
I probably will not purchase Brooks again.
I am partial to Saucony, but was disappointed with my recent Redeemer purchase. I tried Brooks since I was unhappy, and have to say that Saucony does a much better job with a motion control. The Brooks are rigid and lack in cushion in comparison to the Saucony, but to be honest I've purchased Saucony for the past 15+ years and really feel they're a better fit for my feet.
Greatt "MOTION CONTROL"
Love the support and cushion. Have had to try A LOT of shoes to fing a "MOTION CONTROL" shoes. Everytime I find a shoe it is changed or discontinued. This was the last one. Though I love the cushion and general fit, thses still make my legs ache, but feet don't hurt as they ended up with the GTS, I had found to wear, the lesser of 2 evils? That is why only 4 stars.
Okay but not great
I think the fit is a bit more narrow than the 14 version. I'm having a bit of a time getting used to them. I wear an 11 medium in women's. Sole is a different from previous versions. I've been wearing the Ariel since back to the 11 version. This is the first one that I feel is a tad on the narrow side.
Supportive and soft
These are the ultimate cushion. I like the soft feel underfoot and supportive upper. My feet definitely feel locked in and supported. All of that comes with weight however, so these will not be my "speed" shoes but they are definitely a winner for easy or long runs.
I will continue to buy these and have happy feet!
These are my everyday wear all day shoes. Also use them at Silver Sneakers aerobic class. I've tried other shoes but Brooks just work for me so I don't bother trying anything else. Our floors are Mexican Pavers and these shoes keep me going all day.
Not a good style for women with wide feet
I have a wide foot and even though I ordered the wide it was still too tight. I think that it should be noted that it is not styled for a person with a wide foot. I went up a half size and still the toe box is too narrow.
Loved it other than that.
I would not buy this years model again
I have worn Brooks Ariel sneakers for 20+ years for over pronation and this model was NOT comfortable. It was very stiff and did not have the cushioning that it used to. Very disappointed. Returned them. Need to find a replacement sneaker.
Stability for pronators with plantar fasciitis
Best shoe for pronators who need stability in a shoe. I don't run but willing to spend the money on these shoes just to wear. My third pair.
After sandal season my heel and foot are so sore and they are so happy to get into these shoes
Had worn the Ariel 14
Had worn the Ariel 14 before and liked it but these have a better padded tongue. I am waiting to see if the tread comes loose from the sole as badly as the Ariel 14 did. Otherwise great shoe for people who over-pronate.
Best Ariel ever. Love the fit.
Love this ariel. Fit is perfect. Great arch support.. Like roominess in toe area.
Harbor Springs Mi.
Great shoe but careless delivery
The shoe is great but not happy with how the delivery person threw the package toward our door and ricocheted off our car.
Great shoe seems to run small.
The Ariel 16 seems to run small. I normally take an 8.5 wide but had to go to 9 wide.
I would purchase these again
Strong support for overpronators and great styling!
I like the new color and new features of this shoe.
New running shoe is great, highly recommend it.
Have been buying this shoe every year for about 8 years.
These are my wife's go to running shoe.
i would buy these again and again
so far I love them
Love these shoes!
I run about 10-12 miles per week and I have been wearing these shoes for several years. I have flat feet and I've found that I can wear these shoes without orthotics and still be very comfortable. I do order a whole size up from my regular shoe size though.
