Nice revision, the "tongue" is now back to longer/taller
This new revision brings the "tongue" of the shoe back to more normal length. On the "-4", the tongue was so short that it was hard to put the shoe on w/o it getting stuck inside the shoe. I saw some reviews about the shoe fits smaller? My shoe fits perfectly w/o any issues. The bottom mold is the same as last version.
For the shoe industry, all running shoe brands have been lasting shorter and shorter in mileages. my original 2000 lasted 350 miles, my just replaced "-4" was a mess at 220 miles. We'll see how many miles will this "-5" will last. It seems to be the same bottom rubber and so I think it'll still only goes 200 or so miles. We'll see.
A really good shoe has been ruined
The GT2000 has always been an excellent shoe for me. The GT2000 5 is terrible. I have a narrow foot and this shoe is really tight at the ball of my foot, to the point it pinches, bad. The cushioning in the GT2000 5 is no where close to the cushioning in the GT2000 4. The shoe seems to run a least a full size small. The shoe strings are flat and very thin. When you pull the strings to lace up the shoe, the thin flat shoe laces become very small "strings". This causes pressure points across the top of the foot that become painful in just a few minutes.
In my opinion, ASICS has completely ruined this shoe.
Couldn't be happier
This is my favorite pair of Asics I have owned and I have owned many.
1) The upper is the best I have experienced.
2) For a daily trainer with this much cushioning and support, the shoe feels light and fast.
3) Extremely comfortable mid-sole and the shoe has a nice fit, the toe box is average.
4) Very good looking. I bought the all black and it works very nicely as a casual shoe.
I typically wear a 10 or 10.5 in Asics and a 10.5 is a tiny bit long but I'm glad I picked it over a 10.
I have bought Asc
I've purchased ASICS exclusively for years for their feel and quality. For the first time, and I recognize that models constantly evolve for marketing purposes, I am disappointed in this product. It had a different feel and the shoestrings were sparse at best. They would not stay tied and were flimsy. I changed out the shoestring from an older shoe and moved on. The shoes are six months old but I buy two pair and alternate them but now the fabric of the inner lining is shredded, literally. I'm 63 and through attrition my running partners are more walkers and shufflers than runners so I'm not hard on these shoes. What has happened? I need a reliable brand. American made?
Looking for a new shoe
I have worn these shoes for several years but the latest version seems to have made changes in the toe box. They are OK for walking around in for a while but will hurt my feet after a while. I went back to an older pair I had with over 300 miles on them and found them more comfortable. I use a 2E shoe and not sure what changed but won't purchase another pair. Wish I had returned them but just waited too long thinking they would form to my feet.
This shoe wears well, if it fits!
I walk 2 miles a day, every day and have been an Asics fan for over 25 years. This shoe does not match up to what I have been accustomed to expect from Asics. It's a bit too narrow and a bit too short, and the laces are flat and do not stay tied. On the good side, it's well made and has lasted me approx. 500 miles.

helps my pain
I'm not an athlete. I'm a 52 year old female cashier with arthritis in my feet, ankles and knees. I wear a men's 4E and I love this shoe. The toe box is roomy, the tongue is cushioned, the shoe is supportive and the sole absorbs impact. I don't have to wear my orthodics anymore.

I have had several pairs of ASICS. This one was a big disappointment. After only a few months the heels started feeling squishy. Also, the shoe squeaks like crazy, with or without my Powerstep insoles. I should have sent these back as the problem has only gotten worse. I would not recommend this shoe.

Major cushion for your feet
These shoes are extremely comfortable. Major cushioning make them great on walks or runs. I am looking for other colors in this same style. I own several other Asics shoes made for over-pronators but these by far are the most comfortable. Highly recommend.
This is my first Asics shoe, and I love it! I tried almost 10 pairs in the store only the 2000 makes me feel immediately it's the one.
I didn't even break in the shoe, the first run I did 16k and feels like the shoe I had for ever, it's light and very comfortable, give my a great support.

GT-2000 5 nowhere near like their predecessors!
Long time Asics GT running shoe wearer. Loved the earlier versions much better. Still have, use and love the GT2170. Firmer and more structure in the upper. True to the "buy a 1/2 size larger tip which was the cause up till the introduction f the 2000-5. These shoes are about 1/2" too small even when buying what you might think is 1/2 " larger. The uppers are flimsier with less rigidity. They tend to just wrap the foot. To illustrate my points. The 2170 was purchased about two years ago for running only. Many miles logged and still going strong. The 2000-5 purchased mid June for walking and work (lots of walking), and they are about ready for retirement.
Good Support Running Shoe
I can wear either support or neutral running shoes. In the past, I have worn GT-2000 series shoes with no problems. This support shoe is well made, has good cushioning, and the fit is good (I bought 4E width based on past experience). However, It has external forefoot strapping that runs over the toes that is bothersome to me. Actually, I think it is unnecessary. The forefoot strapping design might not be an issue for other runners, but it is for me. I recommend this shoe to over-pronators, not neutral runners. It has some reflective trim for running under low light conditions. It works OK for me, but isn't my favorite ASICS running shoe.
Runs Very Narrow
As a frequent buyer of Asics running shoes, I was disappointed with the fit of the GT-2000 5 trail shoe. My normal size in Asics brand shoes is 10.5 - medium width. The GT-2000 5 trail shoe runs extremely narrow. As a result, I had difficulty putting them on and had no choice but to return them.
First time GT-2000s have let me down in YEARS!
I've been running in GTs for years and love the fit, comfort, and durability. However, the latest pair I purchased in April just aren't living up to the legend structurally. As you can see from the attached image, the newer shoes with about 300 miles on them are wearing out at the heel. The older pair with about 600 miles on them look fantastic, and so have the dozens and dozens of GTs I have purchased in the past. I've never had this problem before, even with all the GTs I've had in the past and retired to gardening work. Extremely disappointed!!
Garbage compared to old version
I had an old pair (gen 3 or 4) that lasted until the soles wore down all the way. I slipped those shoes on every day for almost two years and there wasn't a single tear in the heel portion. With these, Asics decided to change the inner material to something that has now completely ripped on both shoes behind the heel. It has only been 4 months and I do not even slip them on. I hope to return these for a different model. Not Recommended. There is no reason for the material to be changed aside from cost cutting so someone at ASICS messed up...
Like Last Years Model More
I've been running in Asics 2XXX for more than 10 years. This year's 2000-5 feels heavier and it is stiffer in the upper. Still a decent shoe but a step backwards. I hope Asics undoes these changes for the 2000-6 or I might finally try a Hoka or something.
Repeat buyer, repeat performance!
My daughter has an orthotic for a chronic issue with a sesamoid bone in her right foot. This is the only shoe she has found which allows her the room for the orthotic, though larger than her normal size, and still provides her with all the comfort that her high milage endeavors require. I have a previous generation GT-2000 and love it as well. Great support and cushioning. And the wide range of colors meet my machismo and her femininity. Great deal, great shoe.
Have enjoyed other versions of this shoe, but was very disappointed in this version. As others have mentioned, the shoe is very stiff and has very little cushioning - less than previous models. But even more disappointing was the fit - I ordered EE just to be safe, and the toe box was extremely cramped and tight - to the extent that I don't even want to run in them and will be returning them today. Don't know why Asics changed what used to be a good shoe.
Dependable, made to fit, shoes.
I have been buying this show for 20 years or more, most of the time from Road Runner Sports. I like the fact that different widths are offered, so that I can always find an EE wide shoe to fit. These shoes are tough, and I only replace them when the soles show a lot of wear. I have even put screws in the bottom for winter traction, with no effect on the longevity of the shoes.
Not nearly as good as prior versions
I have been running for almost 2 years and have only been using Asics GT2000 sneakers. The previous version were OK they definitely did not last as long as the GT2000 3. I have done about 100 miles in these GT2000 5 and I am extremely dissatisfied with the overall shoe. The shoe is narrower then the other models and the bottoms are not as cushion as prior models.
Still a good shoe.
Great fit for my narrow foot. Out of the box, the 5s seem slightly harder/firmer ride than my 400 mile gt 2000 4s. Maybe should have bought another pair of 2000 4s.

Great fit, another great GT series shoe!
Out of the box, on to the feet, ran 8 miles with no break in - felt great! First impression was that it is a very snug fit, but once the feet settle in to the shoe, a CORRECTLY sized shoe is superb. I've been in the GT series for almost 10 years, and although I have tried other Manufacturers and models, I always find the the GT series is the shoe for ME.
ASICS has changed to a new Narrow Toe box
ASICS are wonderful and best shoe I have ever had. My disappointment is that since ASICS has changed to a new Narrow Toe box I cannot find a wide ASICS that fits my toes anymore. I wear a size 12 and normally get a 12W in 2e or 4e, but with the change the toes are just way too tight. I have used Kayano exclusively and now forced to look and use Brooks.
Comfortable shoe 24/7
This is an excellent shoe for its stability and support. I use the shoe for every day indoor and outdoor chores. This shoe provides the comfort I need to wear all day. Well I'm not a runner issue is great for everything I use it for at least my feet feeling refreshed after a day of use. I have purchased this shoe before it's my go to for every do use.
A Very Good running shoe that looks great
Very stylish looking shoes good for either walking, running, fitness training or everyday casual wear. Your arch and feet feel very well supported though not as much as the more gel filled top of the line ASICS models. I went a half size larger than I normally wear and loosen the strings a bit for the most comfortable fit. Perfect !
lack of support in heel.
this shoe does not live up to the past models.I walk 25 to 30 miles per week and the heel support is lacking at best. Will be looking for a different shoe.

Great shoes I would buy again
Shoes are great. I had a mix up in my order. I needed to send back for an exchange. Super quick turn around on their part and they paid for the expedited shipping so I had my new shoes in a couple of days. A very good experience, friendly service and they stepped up when they needed to.
Thank you All.
I have a high instep and the ornamentation at the end of the laces causes the shoes to be too tight in that area. I have a pair of Asics 1000 and that area is all fabric. I would love the shoes if it wasn't for that. I am returning the shoes to RR and hopefully I can find a good alternative.
Looking forward to putting many miles on these shoes
Another great shoe from a line of great shoes. I have been running in GT-2000 since 2003. This version offers all of the support I need and was comfortable from the start. I did 5 miles the first time I put them on - I didn't even need a break in period. Highly recommended!
Great shoe for walking. Wonderful fit for problem feet.
I use these shoes for walking. They are great - light but provide really good support. I have high arches, very wide feet and pronation. These shoes are great for all my foot issues. The have a nice, wide box. Do order them 1/2 size longer than your normal length.
