Good cushion, but fit too tight

4

Initial cushioning is excellent, as level 5 should be. I've recently been diagnosed with plantar fasciitis, so I need all the cushion I can get. With a very short trial on, a school track, I think I may be able to start running again. What was a big surprise and disappointment is the tight fit. I recently had to move up from size 11 that I had run in for decades, but this size 11.5 is still too short and pinches my toes. Also, I moved up from a normal width to 2E wide, but this toe box is still too narrow. (I can still fit into 11 normal width street shoes.) I need custom orthotics so needed to throw away the provided insole, which is useless anyway. (Every running shoe I have ever bought always has these thin insoles that compress irreversibly after a day or two, whereas after market insoles actually function.) I'm going to try going back to Asics -- hopefully they have a similar shoe that will fit better. I'll probably have to use these NBs for short walks.

Great fit, very stable, promotes good form.

5

I wear a 2E, so finding proper width can be tough. The 1080v7 2E fits like a glove, with just the right amount of wiggle room. I'm not sure what it is with this shoe, perhaps the lower 8mm drop, but it really promotes a consistent mid-foot strike for me, whereas in other shoes, I land a little more toward the heel, not by much, but the 1080v7 makes a worthwhile difference. The wide base/sole makes this shoe feel very stable, helping my stride and gait stay focused and on point.

A nice shoe but feels too much like a Nike

4

Having been a runner for over 40 years, I had primarily used New Balance 990 models for many years. And then I began using some lighter models such as the 1060-1064 (the predecessors of the 1080 series), and 890. A few years back I transitioned to the Brooks Glycerin as my primary running shoe. But recently I wanted something to compliment the Glycerin, something to give me a different feel, so I purchased this 1080 v7. So far, so good! I definitely like the 8 mm drop and the flexible feel of the upper. Although the 1080 is really no lighter than the Glycerin, it feels fast. What I'm disappointed about: the shape of the shoe. The vamp (middle of the foot) is tighter than New Balance normally makes and the forefoot is significantly wider. Basically, the last is more curved than NB models I have used and does not works well for the shape of my foot. It reminds me of the shape of Nike shoes, something not good for my feet. I can make this shoe work for now, so I'll stick with it but not sure about purchasing any more as long as this shoe retains a tight, curved last.

Great Cushioning

5

This is the first pair of 1080's I've tried since NB starting using fresh form in them. I really do love the feel of these. Good cushioning and plenty of toe room. These are replacing a pair of Saucony ISO 3 that were the same size (10-2E) and had much less room in the toe area. Overall a great shoe. I do feel the insert that comes with them is a bit flimsy but since I wear custom orthotics I simply threw them out.

Nice but careful if you need a wide shoe

3

I wear a 12 4E and had high hopes for this shoe. I have been running in ASICS GEL Nimbus 18s which fit perfectly and am in need of a new model given the terrible job ASICS has dome with the Nimbus 19. This New Balance shoe was a bit too narrow for me on one foot, and I returned them after three runs totaling 15 miles because it was just too narrow on my wider foot and was causing a lot of pain across the widest part of that foot. I thought these shoes were attractive and very comfortably padded on the foot they fit. The heel is a low rise, so you need to be content with that. I'm 6'2" and 195, so I like a little more structure back there but these were adequate. If these had fit me, I would have given 4 stars.

Mixed Reviews - not great for high mileage

4

I loved, loved, loved my Fresh Foams. However, with 200-250 miles put in, the bottoms had already wore off and the cushion was gone. I was still within the VIP 90 days, so I am working on finding a new pair that will work just as well, but not break down so quickly. A great shoe if you aren't doing high mileage. If you are doing high mileage, you may want to consider another shoes (I was told gel (Asics) and Brooks shoes hold up better for high mileage). It is a real shame that these shoes couldn't handle the mileage, I really found them supportive and comfortable after trying other shoes and am very sad they won't work out for me, unfortunately, I can't afford to buy new pair of Fresh Foams every 2 months.

GREAT WALKING TENNIS SHOES

5

Awesome tennis shoe 5 they fit like glove as soon as I put them on unbelievable comfortable love them! No discomfort at all when when normally breaking in new tennis shoes, not on these baby's. I brought these tennis shoe for everyday walking only. Not sure how they would holdup as runners but I didn't buy them for running shoes cause I have top notch running shoes I buy every single year and brand. But I would definitely buy these tennis shoe again for what I brought them for and would recommend them also to a friend or anyone asking...

Not at all like a 1080

2

I don't know why New Balance felt the need to change the structure of this shoe from the awesome versions they had with the 1080v5 and prior. This one is cushy and comfortable for walking, but too sloppy to run in. It might be fine for runners who prefer a less-stable feel, but probably not OK for the legions of runners who liked the previous 1080s. NB should call it something else to avoid the confusion. It's a good reason to try on and buy any new version in person at a local running store rather than online.

Best looking running shoe on the market, and a great cushion

5

The New Balance 1080v7 is probably the best looking shoe on the market. I wear a 4E width, yet they come in great colors in the wide width. Most running shoes in wide width only come in silver or grey. The shoes are super comfortable, but I wish they came with a 10mm drop. I don't run much in these shoes since I wear stability shoes, but on the runs I have use them in, they have been great. FYI-I run approx 125 miles a month. They fit like a glove. I recommend these shoe, especially if you wear cushion shoes.

Not a big man's running shoe

2

I loved the colors (hard to find anything other than white & grey in 4e widths). They fit my foot well and I really liked the upper, but with the true test being the road....I didn't like them at all. Lack of cushion during my daily 2 mile run Not comfortable or cushioned (Maybe if you weigh 150 lbs or less). Definitely not a big man running shoe. Like I stated, loved the fit & feel, but I'm just going to use them as my everyday walk around shoes. Had high hopes, but just weren't for me for running purposes.

Conflicted...

4

It's a rare shoe that's true to size these days, and even rare one that has EEs in more than one color choice. I switched from Asics after they ruined my go to Nimbus. Nice wide toe box, decent cushioning, thought not the level 5 it claims. I was really happy with these until I bought my first pair of Brooks Ghost 10's which I seriously love. Now I'm conflicted because I've gotten a lot of compliments on my orange 1080's, but my heart is with the Ghosts... though they do come in red.

I'm unsure about returning to the store.

5

I really like the 1080v7 shoes. This purchase was pair 4 & 5 for me. I went to the store to purchase a pair. I was told they didn't have any in my size so they pushed the NEW 1080v8. What choice did I have but to purchase them. I came home and on line purchased TWO pair of 1080v7. When they arrived the return address showed that they were mailed from the store. Hmmm. Someone got a point for selling me the new style that day. I love the shoes but d not like being taken advantage of.

1080v is NOT an upgrade!

4

This shoe in nearly perfect for my feet. I am a triathlete and I use this for Half Iron distance competition as well as long run training. I have flat (not just no arch, but minus arch) and these shoes have worked well for me. This is my 2nd pair and I purchased a wider version to accommodate my orthotics. Again, nice and snug without binding in the toes, arch or heel. Just enough padding for longer runs and have ample springiness for shorter speed work work.

Buy these now!

5

I sometime have a hard time getting a comfortable fit. I have a narrow foot and an especially narrow heel. Road Runner Sports has been my go to store for many years. I have been a runner since 1977 and typically buy two or more pair of shoes a year so, yeah, probably at least 100 pair of running shoes. These New Balace Fresh Fiam shoes are the most comfortable shoes I have EVER worn. I can only hope that they will also prove to be durable.

I recommend these to neutral runners who require cushion

5

This shoe has great cushion; I am 6'3" and 195lbs. I used to run in Asics Nimbus, but it seems their last changed, they are not quite as cushioned any more, and they are too expensive. I went with the 1080v7s as an alternative to the Nimbus and they have superior cushioning, a roomy toe box and fit true to size. I recommend these to any neutral runner who requires lots of cushioning. Will be buying again.

Comfortable ride, so far so good...

4

Still breaking them in, but comfortable ride so far. I came back to NB after being in ASICS for years. The initial 10D pair I bought were narrower for my foot than I remember NB being previously; maybe my feet have spread over he years? Exchanged for 10 2E and fit is good now. Cushioning is good (I'm a heavy runner), but probably not the level 5 they are rated. RR service has been friendly and flawless.

NB and The 1080

5

I'm a big runner at a tad over 200 and these 1080's (I've had most versions)are really great. There are times when I don't check them, but my body tells me of excessive wear. I always have a backup and as soon as I place the new ones on, no more aches. It's one of the best shoes I have ever run in, and I have been running for 50 years. Kudos to NB for a great shoe, and American made.

They don't fit

1

I agree with Bob's review dated 2/5/17. They definitely run small and narrow. I'm average foot size (10D) and have never had a problem with fit with any running shoe. I hate to return things but these are going back.

shoes got tighter

2

Planned to use these shoes for ironman triathlon training and race. This is the 2nd pair and had good success with the 1st pair. For some reason after about 150 miles of use these shoes became too tight across the arch area of the foot and was uncomfortable even without socks. I normally love new balance and have had good success with other new balance shoes

Enjoying my 1080v7 Purchase

5

This is a very nice shoe. I am used to my normal 990v4 for both running and walking around so it took a day or two to get used to the new feel with the 1080v7. It now feels just as good as my 990v4, including the same orthotic, and it gives a different look in the green color compared to the 990 in gray. Overall, I'm pleased with the purchase.

ODD FIT!!

1

Odd fit. I have worn New Balance shoes, on and off, for over 30 years. This shoe, though sized the same as all my other New Balance running shoes, had a really odd shoe last shape and fit! Never, before, felt any shoe like it!! I could not even get comfortable walking around the house on carpet!! Sent them back same day received!!

Can't beat this for older slower runner

5

63 years old with recent scope to both knees and fusion of lower back. Daily run of 8 miles and the cushioning is noticeable. Knees have felt better and better the longer I run on them. I am a heel striker and still get about 400-500 miles from them before I notice it may be time to move to next pair.

Bradley

undisclosed

DON'T THINK. JUST BUY IT.

5

Great cushion but still supportive. The shape of the sole and dense support cups your heel and holds it firm to your foot. Very light and dries very quickly. Great shoe! I debated on going to this shoe and tried 2 other pairs before, those were a waste of time and this is the shoe for me.

Peter

undisclosed

I'm reserved about buying again so far.

4

I have run in them twice so far. Good cushioning, a bit stiffer than my last fresh foams, but that's ok. A bit wider forefoot than I prefer for a D, but I think a B will be too narrow, so I'll try a thicker sock. Also no notch for the Achilles. Not a problem yet, but surprised about that.

Ed

undisclosed

Foam wears out too quickly!

5

Only bought because of the good price and cushioning. Foam soles of my last pair wore out much too quickly. Has to be a middle ground between the cushioning and the durability. Swore I'd never buy another pair of foam soled shoes, but the price was too good.

John

Sorry NB this model is not for me..

1

Try them on and Immediately notice they are not comfortable for people like me with High Arc. The Front part design of the shoes will make presurre on top of my foot. I send them back . Sorry NB this model is not for me..

Freaky town classy

5

Just ran in these for the first time today and loved them. I bought men's bc I liked the color and hoped they would be a bit wider than a woman's shoe. They are light and roomy and look freaky town classy!

Jacqueline

I would not suggest this shoe if you need a highly cushioned

1

New Balance 1080 are supposed to be the best cushioned shoe made by NB. The fresh foam does not cushion as advertised. I have been wearing the 1080s for 7 years but now I switched to Asics.

Drake

undisclosed

I might buy these again

4

I average 10-12 miles per week just to keep the guy off and usually I run in high cushioned shoes (Vomero/ nimbus). 1080's are comfortable but not like others I run in. Lots of toe room.

Ryan

undisclosed

Squishy Goodness!

5

Super cushioning and comfortable fit. These allow a bit more squish than my Glycerin 14s, but aren't as dorky looking as Hoka. I'm really a fan of these shoes. This is now my 3rd pair.
