The only con I can think of is that it is a bit heavier than I am used to in a shoe. Especially for racing. For short races I still wear my Newtons, which have a low drop and a wide toe box. But really, the Altra is otherwise the perfect shoe. The fact of the matter is, it is as light as it can be considering all of the cushion.
For years I ran in the five finger shoes. I loved the zero drop and toe spread. But, even in the trail versions, most surfaces were punishing to run on. Then a broken toe (unrelated to running) made it impossible to fit my toes in the spots. When Altras came around I said, "FINALLY!" But I would switch over to the cushion-ie Hokas for long runs to save my legs- nice lower drop shoe but tiny toe box. Now they made my favorite shoe even better for the long runs by adding all of the cushion. I can REALLY have the best of ALL worlds? Toe spread, flat and true zero drop, AND cushion?? Thank you, Altra!!!!!
Every time I put them on, or just catch them in my eye in the mudroom, I think, "finally!!"
I'm wearing them for my next marathon.

I've been looking for shoes to replace my old Cumulus 13s (which Asics ruined in "upgrades") and these are excellent. Very cushioned and natural feeling (neutral) shoes. They are supposed to be trail shoes but I find I'm wearing them on the road just as much the trail. They have a wide foot-shaped toe box, which looks sort of odd at first, but now I like them. The toes are also arched up a little, which rocks you forward when you walk and run. The only problem is the sizing is off - I had to get them in a half-size larger than other running shoes (full size larger than street shoes).
new favorite shoe
I bought these for running after seeing them at a race expo. I like the concept of having a wider forefoot to avoid the crowding of the toes. They also have incredible arch support. I not only love these for running, but also have been wearing them for work. I spend many hours on my feet and they give support exactly where I need them. They do run a bit short, so I ordered a full size over my regular shoe size- and half size bigger than my previous shoe.
This is the first time to feel compelled to write a review. These are my favorite new shoes!!

I LOVE these shoes! Finally a shoe wide enough to fit my toes comfortably and cushioned enough for my long runs. I know a lot of people have fit issues with the Olympus... my daughter is one of them. She kept getting bigger and bigger sizes and still the shoes were too small. But for me, I ordered a half size larger than my normal running shoes and they are perfect. I'm speculating that it might have something to do with the shape of our feet. Her feet have a sharper slope from little toe to big toe. Mine are less sloped (more square-ish). My only complaint is that I would have expected a more aggressive tread on a trail shoe. Anyway, I LOVE these shoes and use them on street and hard pack trails. BTW, my daughter is very happy now in the Altra Intuition.

Love these shoes
Really love how comfortable these shoes are and that the toe box is nice and wide. I bought this shoe a half size larger than my other shoes and they fit perfectly. I have used these on the trail and long road runs, and my feet felt very comfortable and the shock absorption allowed my calves to feel pretty good as well. The only minor drawback of the shoe is that the tongue does seem a bit short, I have not had it slip back at all though, so no issues, but I wonder with more wear, will the tongue become an issue.
My favorite shoe!
These are definitely my favorite shoe. I know they are trail shoes but I find myself putting them on for road runs as well! The cushioning is wonderful and the wide toebox is perfect for my bunions. They do run short so make sure to size up. When I run trails in them I have a confidence that I have never had before over rough terrain
I am completely sold on the Olympus. I have foot issues and have tried about 10 different shoes. I needed the extra roomy toe box for my bunion. These shoes have really helped! They do take a period of time to get used to if going from a traditional running shoe to these with a zero drop. After the break in period they are fantastic!
relieved forefoot pain
I had a metatarsal stress fracture. This shoe has worked wonders for eliminating forefoot tenderness and stress. I tried a couple of other kinds of shoes but still had problems. The combination of zero drop, max cushioning and foot shape worked magic for me. I love this shoe.
Great cushioned shoe
The tongue is too short so when the laces are place in the last hole they have a hard time staying on the tongue. Once on the tongue, they do stay put for my entire run.
Finally a shoe I love.
I am so pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoy this shoe. I was encouraged to try it by teammates and friends and I am glad I did. I feel like I finally found a shoe that I can wear over and over.
Long wait...still too small
After waiting months for the 10's to arrive, they are still too short! The cushioning is great with a roomy toe box, but I just can't see sizing up to a 10.5 from my usual 9.0/9.5 in most RRS shoes.
Boy, these run small!
These seem to have great cushioning, and are cute in clunky way. But they are VERY short. I usually wear a 9 or 9.5, but I'm going to have to try a 10 instead.
