Great changes in the 2170

5

I loved the 2150s for years, and was extremely disappointed with the 2160s because they were heavy, stiff and too large in the heel in both width and height. I was convinced they contributed to a few injuries I experienced during my training with them. Obviously I hesitated in purchasing the 2170s, but the phone rep convinced me that all of my complaints were addressed in this new version - and he was right! The 2170s are lightweight, flexible, and the heel fit has been tightened up. I've been running on them for three weeks with zero complaints except that I wish that there were more color options for the D width (which hardly qualifies as a complaint).

Love these shoes!

I got this to train for a half marathon, it is a good durable running shoe. Very breathable, light and fits like a glove. I run on road, pavement, trails, and sand, a lot of sand, so the breathability lets in more sand but that comes with the terrain. I got custom soles to replace the ones it came with for my high arches, but my shins and knees don't hurt anymore. Great stability shoe, love the color, I got the grey and purple because of the red sand I run in everyday. I think their cool and cute. Love 'em!

Very good shoes

5

I use these shoes almost every day, and they are really good quality in terms of supporting the foot and cushioning. They're a little heavy compared with shoes with less stability, but its definitely worth a few more ounces to not be in pain. I've been looking for a top quality shoe to help me bounce back from injuries, and these definitely deliver the support I need!

I've had great success in the 2100 series, my favorite being the 2170. Since they were discontinued, I bought the 2000-2. Unfortunately, I now have severe plantar fasciitis from lack of mid foot support. I have worn custom made orthotics for many years in the 2150, 2160, and 2170 and never had this injury! I would like to buy 2170's again if I could only find my size. Asics should never have pushed the 2000-2 as the replacement for the 2170. I love the combo/board lasting in the 2170 . Great support without sacrificing cushioning and flexibility. A truly terrific shoe.....so disappointed in it's demise. I run 30 - 35 miles per week.

I bought my first pair after being fitted by pros at a running shop. I normally wear a 10 and my feet are a bit wide; they recommended I go with a 10.5, and it's perfect. I've put over 300 miles into my first pair, which I got at the local shop, so I just a second pair from RRS. I run both on pavement and on trails, anywhere between 3 and 12 mi at a time (and plan to build up for marathons) in all weather conditions, and these shoes have never let me down. I think the people who fit me said that my ankle turns in slightly on impact, so that might be helpful for anyone else considering these shoes. I also have average arches, neither high nor low.

A good overall running shoe

4

I am just coming off of a VERY high stability New Balance shoe (with orthotics), which helped plantar fasciitis issues that developed after my pregnancy. Now that I'm able to run again, but still mildly deal with the issue, I wanted to get back to a less bulky shoe that still has good stability. The GT2000 series, was always a good running shoe for me before injury, so I thought I'd go back to them. I've used the 2170s for a week now, at the gym and for running. So far, they have been a treat to wear:) I'll add, they do not run small in sizing. I have more than enough toe room in my normal size.

Love these shoes!

5

I had my feet analyzed at a Road Runner Sports store and was told I needed to use Stabilizer shoes. They recommended Asics. I tried on a couple pair but they were not comfortable. SO I have stuck with wearing Brooks. So recently I was in DSW and came across this shoe Asics 2170 in my favorite color purple!!! Tried them on, bought them and I am super happy with them!! They are ultra comfortable and really support my feet when running or just walking! I would buy these again and definitely recommend them to others! Great stability running shoe!!! Plus I got them for around $50! Can't beat that!

Great shoe for pronators and distance

5

I am a distance runner on pavement, trails, and I hike a lot. This shoe does all that! My podiatrist recommended it for me years ago. I wore it for a while, decided to try something new, and regretted the decision. I'm back with this shoe and loving it all over again. I overpronate and have had plantar faciatis, and this shoe deals with both of those issues well. I highly recommend this shoe!! The only complaint I have is that the padding in the shoe does not accommodate my insoles. So if you must wear inserts, maybe buy a size up. But honestly, with these shoes, I don't need my insoles.

Saved my knees

5

I had knee pain, and doctors recommended I stop running and go to physical therapy, which would cost me $30 a session, 3 times a week. I bought these shoes and my knee pain was gone, I stopped limping and my runs became longer and more energized. Not to mention the custom insole - totally worth every penny and now I need another pair, because I cannot believe I wore these shoes for almost 4 years and they are just now starting to tear. This is after constant running in the grass, dirt, anywhere you name it! They are excellent. I hope they don't discontinue this brand.

Great Shoe

5

I've been wearing the GT series since 2001. I think I may have started with the 2020's or 2010's. Anyway, they solved my shin splint issue on the very first run and go at least 350 miles before I feel shin pain. Anyway, I tried the new GT2000 series and do not likey!!!! There is less stability under foot. We used to use the term "board lasted" which was a very strong footbed to correct the overpronation. Asics moved away from board lasted after the 2060's (i think) but the shoe's new technology proved effective. The newly named series GT2000, I heard was just a name change and was convinced to buy them by a sales rep. Sadly, it is a major shoe change and I now have ordered three pair of 2170's in order to have a more solid made shoe. They should well become extincted at some point, but hoping Asics does something about this. Thanks.

Not the same shoe

1

I have been buying the Asics GT series shoes for about 5 years and have always loved their great cushioning with just enough stability to help prevent injuries (I'm a mild overpronator). Unfortunately, about 2 miles into my first run in these shoes I noticed that my feet HURT! The cushioning was not nearly as comfortable as in the 2150s and other previous models. I think Asics changed some things in their design from previous models(perhaps to make the shoe lighter in keeping with current running shoe trends?), but they definitely sacrificed quality in the process. Help RRS staff can help me find a new shoe!

I'm sending them back!!!

1

After reading the reviews and talking with a customer service agent I thought this shoe would be a good replacement for my Brooks GTS 12. I never had a problem with my Brooks, but I was interested in trying something new. These shoes arrived and I took them on a couple short runs and my feet immediately started to blister. I found them to be very clunky- I felt like I was wearing clown shoes! I thought I'd try them on one of my longer runs, but halfway through my arch was killing me. I decided that I gave these shoes a fair shot and they are not for me, so I'll be returning them. I bought another pair of Brooks GTS 12 and my feet have never been happier!

Love this sneaker

5

I have been running for over 25 years and always wore Saucony. Recently Saucony changed their running sneakers so I had to find a new one. Road Runner was great, they helped me with choosing a new sneaker. I tried 4 different sneakers before this shoe was recommended and it is great. It provides the Arch support I need and is nice and light with lots of cushion. The only downfall of the shoe is that is is dark gray with pink laces..love the laces, just wish the shoe was more colorful.

Disappointed GT Series Fan

2

I have been buying the Asics GT series shoes for about 6 years and have always loved their great cushioning with just enough stability to help prevent injuries (I'm a mild overpronator). Unfortunately, after just a few runs in these shoes I noticed that my feet HURT by about mile 3 or 4. The cushioning was not nearly as comfortable as in the 2160s and other previous models. I've seen other reviews online saying that the shoe is less stable as well, but I didn't notice that as much as the change in cushioning. I think Asics changed some things in their design from previous models(perhaps to make the shoe lighter in keeping with current running shoe trends?), but they definitely sacrificed quality in the process.

Awesome Shoe!

5

Ordered these shoes after I wasn't happy with the Brooks GTS 12, and I was pleasantly surprised with these! Took them out for their first run on a 85 degree afternoon and they were incredibly comfortable/cushioned right from the box. Not clunky or awkward in the slightest, which was exactly what I was looking for. The only slight downside to these is that they are a bit on the heavier side, but the great cushioning makes up for that. Also, the purple/charcoal color is great!

5

after going through 2 pairs of shoes looking for ones suitable for long runs, these are the ones! i run about 20-30 miles a week and wear these to the gym. i also climb mountains in these babies. great traction, minimal slipping. they're good for trail running too! super comfortable. sometimes during long runs my feet get really hot in these, that's about the only bad thing about these shoes. other than that they're perfect!! :)

Really comfortable and supportive shoe!

5

I was a long-time Brooks Adrenaline/Trance user, until the newer models came out and no longer have the cushion and comfort I used to love. No problem-o...because Adidas has created the GT 2170s! I wear the DS trainers for shorter runs, and these for my longer training runs (over 10 miles). No break-in period needed, good stability and cushion. As previous reviewers have mentioned, do not size up when ordering these shoes.

I LOVE THIS SHOE

5

For years I swore by Brooks addiction until they changed the model and I tried the Ascics at a running store. I was afraid the light weight would not give me enough stability for pronation and I am a heavier runner at 146lbs. I was so impressed by how it actually changed my stride and and keeps my ankle secure on landing. I am on my third pair. My only concern is the mesh at the toe box gives out first.

sloppy fit

3

Mild over-pronator, shoe recommended by shoe store. I need a shoe with room in the toe box but a narrow midfoot, otherwise I slide all over the place. These have room in the toe but the midfoot is so loose my feet end up slopping around, which contributes to injuries. I also think they sized me up a 1/2 size too big. I doubt I will buy these again. I previously used Nike Pegasus and will probably go back.

LOVE THESE SHOES

5

This is my second pair of these exact shoes. I loved the first pair, they feel SO good on my feet, I feel like they give me a push off with every step. I love how they look, the color is great. I felt the material did tear a little soon, but I put over 500 miles on in about five months and I hear that's about how long they should last, so I can't complain. I love, love, love these shoes.

No shoe compares to the Asics 2170.

5

This shoe has great support. I have run in this shoe for many years and was extremely disappointed when they changed to the lighter models. No shoe compares to the Asics 2170. I have run 11 marathons and hundreds of miles in the 2100 series over the last 12 years. Would recommend to anyone looking for a great stability shoe. It won't disappoint! These shoes make my feet happy!!!

Good at first

4

Loved these shoes at first! Have worn 21XX series for years. Always have been best for my feet. I wore these for almost 3 months, put about 200 miles on them. Got my first blister at 2 1/2 mos. The toe box is big and the cushioning seemed to break down in that amount of wear. The shoe laces are short, therefore hard to get them adjusted just right. Ran my first two 5K's in them, but not happy with durability.

Love it

5

I run 3x a week average 15 to 20 miles. I have had this same shoe 3x in a row. It feels great and perfect for my foot. It doesn't give me any blisters even in marathons. It lasts me about 9 months then I can tell on my arches it's time for a new pair. The big toe usually starts to get a hole about 6 months and I wish it had more colors to choose. But overall love it!!

Please keep the GT2170 line!

5

I have worn Asics for years, and I'm reviewing these in hopes that Asics recognizes that the GT2000 should not replace the GT2170 shoes. They fit very differently. I've not had to break in shoes with the 2100 line, but the 2000's feel entirely different. They have a small toe box which can lead to problems. The 2170's and prior versions are great for runners who need stability and I know they were popular. Please do not discontinue the line.

Not Enough Arch Support

2

I have always worn the Kayano but wanted to try something different. These shoes were comfortable when I tried them on; they fit like a glove. However, about 4 miles into my run my arches began to ache and at the end of the rune my feet, legs, and knees really hurt--I have not had this type of pain in many years. Not enough cushion and arch support. I will be returning.

Too much change

1

There is a big change in the toe box of this shoe compared to the 2160 and other previous models. It is more narrow (too narrow for me), and the shape and overall fit of the shoe is different. It is no longer a comfortable, "perfect" fit for my foot. This has been my favorite running shoe for several years because of the consistency of the fit and overall quality of the shoe. I won't be wearing these anymore unless they take the fit back to the way it used to be.

Very disappointed

2

I was so bummed when these shoes arrived. I have the 2160 model and LOVE them - but after 2 half marathons I can tell it's time to get new ones. Since I couldn't find them anymore, I ordered these. I put them on and walked around my house and couldn't believe how different they felt from the 60's. The heel was unbelievably tight. I could tell I would have blisters instantly. The 2160's needed no breaking in, and these for sure would have. I returned them the next day and am still searching.

I love this shoe

5

I love this shoe! I tried 10 different brands (Nike, NB, Salomon, Brooks, Adidas) and this one was the winner I am size 7 and bought this half size up and it's perfect. I do have somewhat of a higher arch so I do use inserts. I run about 15-20 miles per week, and since wearing this shoe I have no issues with calf/ankle pain like I used to.

Just bought my second pair

5

I use this shoe for road and trail running. Comfortable with a good fit that gives a little room in the toe box. I've run these on pavement, sand, wet grass, gravel, rocky downhills, muddy uphills, from 5k's to 10 milers, and they handle it all. After submerging in ankle deep water a couple miles into my last 10k, water drained quickly and shoes stayed light. My all purpose go-to running shoes.

A great shoe in the 2000 series

5

This is a great alternative at a great cost to the GT-2000 shoe, which has a smaller toe box. The 2000-2 is a good shoe, but the 2170 is a favorite. Both my husband and myself have bought more than one pair of these, and we bought four pairs of the GT-2160 shoe. Asics stays true to itself, and the ride is always consistent.
