Very stable shoe

4

I tried several different asics shoes before keeping the gel kayano 19. I have very hard to fit feet, wear orthodics with a lift in one shoe and have flat, narrow feet and balance issues. This makes it a real challenge to find decent shoes. I walk 21 miles a week so I need shoes with support and cushion. These shoes so far are very good. I think the cushioning could be better in the top of the toe area as these shoes are most comfortable with heavier socks. I have a size 7.5 foot but with my orthodics and narrow width foot need a size 9(2A) shoe in this model!! Don't be afraid to go bigger with this shoe, especially if you are a narrow width. I thought the 9 would be too big for me but they seem to fit fine. The shoe is very stablilizing for my balance problem and my pronation is minimal. I would recommend these shoes, even though the price is quite high. I wish asics would make more shoe models in narrow, there is very little to choose from and usually only the ugliest colors are in narrow. These are the most stable shoes I found out of at least 10 models of various makers shoes I tried on.

DISAPPOINTING!

1

I have owned Asics Gel Kayanos for years. I always described these shooes as "heaven on your feet". They were so comfy, snug and supportive. I couldn't wait to get out and run with my new shoes. The first time I put on a pair, I just knew these were the shoes I would purchase forever. HOWEVER, this newest gel kayano is terrible. There is NO cushioning, the upper portion is thin and feels cheap. It does wrap my foot with a secure and snug fit. I had to triple check to make sure these were the right shoe. I had to compare them to my other 3 pairs of past kayanos just to be sure I wasn't having some kind of mental lapse. Yep, these were Ascis Gel Kayano's...:( I couldn't believe how incredibly cheap and stiff they felt. I've ran in them 4 times now resulting in my calves being incredibly sore and tight. This has never happened before and I've been running consistently for 10 years. Fortunately, I'm a road runner sports VIP so I can return them. I will be purchasing another pair of the 18s which are amazing and on sale to boot!

Poor support and very heavy

1

These are horrible shoes and after years of wearing Asics I'm sorry to say their company just keeps making their shoes cheaper and cheaper (and more expensive at the same time). I am fairly small (5'3, 125 lbs) and training for an Ironman so I need something for heavy mileage. I prefer lightweight and have used the DS Trainers for several years (trained for and ran marathons in them) until a couple models ago when they turned cheap as well (no cushion). Decided to try the Kayanos because I wanted something with cushion that would hold up to high mileage. Well, not only are these ridiculously heavy they start hurting my arch after about 6 miles, a problem I've never had before. I tried using insoles (also never done) which helps but they're even heavier. When I realized my brick runs (running right after biking which I do in Tri-specific shoes) were easier than my fresh runs with Kayanos, I realized it was the shoes. What a waste of money! Good thing I can return them. I don't know what's happening to Asics though- all their shoes are bad and I used to swear by Asics!

Good Running Shoes

4

I have been buying these shoes since the Kayano 16 model mostly for running (3-5 miles x2 or x3 a week) and indoor cross-training on the other days. I took a break from these to try out thr Brooks Ghost 5 and then returned to them again now for Kayano 19 with a promotion (wasn't sure about the reviews for Kayano 20). For me, the Kayanos tend to run a little wide/large and I always have to order a 9.5 instead of a 10 for this model (this became especially clear to me after spending nearly 6 months with my Ghost 5's for which I was able to order my usual size 10). The extra space in the toe box is the only thing that bothers me now that I have a point of comparison (I have to tie my laces a bit tighter to give me the snug fit I like). Other than that, this Kayano 19 model is extra light, providing excellent cushion that is so easy to get back into, for a smooth ride. The traction is great and the colors are fun (more options than the Brooks Ghost, anyway). I got the black, neon green/pink ones and could not be happier

Impressed

4

I'm an avid runner, logging close to 30 miles a week. I have been an Asics Gel Kayano fan for the past 10 years. My last 3 pairs were the 17's since I had friends that bought and returned the 18's. I was a little concerned about the 19's because of the reviews I read and how much they changed the shoe but most "complaints" seemed to be from fans of the 18's. I also had been contemplating purchasing a lighter shoe anyway so the changes I was reading seemed to suit what I was looking for and I'm glad I made the decision. Not only are they the best looking Asics I've owned, they are very comfortable and lightweight. Because of these changes they do not have quite the cushioning as the 17's and my feet were slightly achy after a hard 15k I raced this weekend. But I assume that would come with any type of racing flat if I were to wear them. Also, the laces don't stay tied for some reason. I've never had an issue with laces before so I just double knotted and they stayed put. All in all, a great shoe I'd recommend if looking for a performance/stability shoe.

Needs more forefoot cushioning

4

I waited to review these until I'd run in them for a few weeks. I've worn the Kayanod for several years. I've put 67 miles on these including a half marathon and they feel and fit great but there is a definite deficit in the forefoot Cushioning that I can feel when I put in some distance. Im a heavier girl (146 lbs 5'3") so my shoes have to be able to handle my heavier foot strike. I'm also a mid to forefoot striker. I'm needing to buy another pair of shoes to rotate with these. Right now, my others are getting close to the 250 mile mark so they need to be retired. I'm considering buying an insole to use with these in an attempt to improve the forefoot cushioning or trying another stability plus. I have a marathon scheduled in may so I need to get the balance right before I get into serious training. Right now my longest run is 7-8 miles. I still feel that I could recommend these

Insanely good shoe

5

The Kayano 19 is an insanely great shoe. It's also an insanely too expensive shoe, and Asics should be ashamed of themselves charging so much money for a shoe that would still make Asics a ton of money if it was $40 less, simply because it's such a great ride. But for the fact that there is only one other stability plus shoe in a 2A narrow width to speak about--the New Balance 1260v, which does not come close to the Kayano in distance performance--Asics would have already priced me right out of its product line. Get real, Asics people, for those of us who are high mileage runners on a budget, this shoe is really overpriced. It is, however, a vast improvement over the Kayano 18, which was not fit to wear the Kayano name. Do us Kayano devotees a favor, bring back the Kayano 8 or the Kayano 11 (at their original prices), which arguably are still the best Kayanos ever made.

Awesome!!

5

I've been an Asics Kayano fan for a long time. However, I HATED the 18s. They were awful. The 18s gave me blisters and never felt right. I originally bought regular width, then traded them in for wide. The wider width was better, but still not good. The 19s are awesome!! I absolutely love them. I got wide width in my regular size and they're perfect. They're extremely lightweight and feel almost non-existent, but they're still cushioning and absorb impact very well. I'm so excited to have great Asics again! So glad they went back to what made this shoe great in the first place. LOVE these shoes! (I know it says delivery isn't until Nov, but I got mine yesterday) Only thing I wish they would change is the colors. I don't prefer dark colored shoes, but even that's not too bad. Highly recommend these shoes!!

Swollen Ankle. Horrible Shoe

1

I was recently told I have flat feet and have been running in the wrong shoes (either Gel Nimbus or Zoom Vomero). After doing copious amounts of research for my feet and frame type I ordered the Kayano and Nike Triax. These shoes came highly reviewed (and even by pple with flat feet). These were horrible. The first day I ran 5 miles on treadmill with this and orthotics. The top felt too high (prob cuz of orthotics) and was pushing against my ankle. The second day I could only manage 20 mins of HIIT on treadmill before I realized these have NO ARCH SUPPORT and now my ankle is completely swollen. Further, I tried these side by side with TRIAX and realized THERE IS NO ARCH in comparison. This is a horrible shoe - dont buy despite what pple say about stability shoes can be worn with flat feet...I would stick to a nicely cushioned shoe and insert your own orthotic (try VOMERO or TRIAX).

First rate

I normally wear the Brooks Trance 12 and was looking for something different but just as supportive. After doing some reasearch and reading the reviews, I decided to try the Gel Kayano 19. First, right out of the box, the color wowed me! And from the first wearing , they fit perfectly. I normally order my running shoes 1/2 to 1 full size larger than my everyday shoes, but with this product just 1/2 size up will do. There were no blisters or chafing. I did switch to a slightly thicker sock because the toe box is roomier than my Brooks pair and my foot slipped around a little the first two runs until I smartened up. I have the Raspberry/Mango/Lime and they actually make me smile when I look down at my feet! I would love to order in another color. I highly recommend this running shoe!

LOVE this update!!

5

I LOVE these shoes!! I was a little concerned from reading the other reviews, since this version of the Kayano doesn't seem to be as highly rated as previous versions. However, I am just so impressed with these shoes. The toe box is smaller than version 17, but this is better for me since version 17 was too roomy. They are so much more lightweight than version 17, it is amazing. Yes, I can tell by looking at the shoes and comparing to the previous version that there is less cushioning. They are still very shock absorbing, and are so much lighter so I believe they really didn't need all of the cushioning from the older versions. Please don't hesitate as long as I did, because I really wish I would have purchased these months ago!!!

Two-by-fours for me

1

I agree that these feel heavy and very flat, as if two stubby two-by-fours have been strapped onto my feet. They do feel cushioned--not as much as I had expected-- but much less than the GT 2000 series shoes. I've been running in the GT 2000 series for the last 10 years, and this is my first run on the Kayanos. I thought I'd give these a try since I was not happy with my last pair of running shoes, the GT 2170 Trail, which seemed more narrow across the foot and aggravated my callus. I did purchase the Kayanos in a wide, which I've never done before, so maybe that explains the lumbering quality. I am somewhat small (5'3", 130 lbs), and run between 12-20 miles/wk. These shoes are just not for me, so I am going back to the GT 2000 series. Seem to be great for others.

The cushioning is HEAVEN

Soooo I am a beginner. I live at 6200" & bought my first pair somewhere else because I had a coupon. I live where it takes a while for snow to completely disappear so I thought I would do some road running. I bought these after reading a review that was so complimentary I thought I couldn't loose. OH MY GOD......these are light & going down hills my foot felt cradled & cushioned and that first day of wearing them I ran fast for me.....then I thought how bad would it to run on a trail which is really packed down so I researched can you wear road shoes on trails??? Guess what...YOU CAN and I did this morning & ran the fastest I ever have...I guess you can call it a PR....so I'm buying a 2nd.pair so I can switch off & not wear them out....I LOVE THESE SHOES!!!!

Not as happy as with previous versions

2

I've always been able to pull my next pair of Asics Gel-Kayanos out of the box and immediately run in them, including doing a half marathon. But I got these 2 weeks from my last marathon and immediately had some leg issues. I kept them but went back and rotated some older pairs to get me through my marathon but during one of my long runs with them they just didn't feel like there was any cushioning between my feet and the pavement. I've started wearing them again and am currently putting in 40 + miles a week and my legs are killing me. My shins ache my ankles hurt. I haven't put that many miles on them but they are already packed down on the sides and are pretty much shot. I usually cycle out shoes around 400 miles but I think these have 300 and there toast. Looking to switch to something else now.

Comfy and light!

5

Finally a shoe that really has tons of cushion and is super light weight. I normally run in minimalist shoes, however I had a substantial injury to my Achilles tendon a few years ago and shoes that are cushiony and supportive are a must for recovery runs for me. I had almost given up my search for an adequately cushiony shoe when I found these using the Shoe Dog. I love them! In addition, the balls of my feet are slightly wider than most and these shoes are very roomy. I previously used Nike Vomeros, but the last few versions were not cushiony enough, were too snug in the toe box and heavier than I like. I am so happy I found these shoes! Thank you Shoe Dog!!

Asics hit a Home Run

5

In 2012 I trained for back to back marathons. The Kayano 18's were breaking down just over the big toe and pinching, along with early cushioning break down. I had to send back my Kayano 18's even though I had been in Kayanos for many years. The Kayano 19 had just came out and read about many inhancements and decided to try them. Broke them in quickly and ran a January 2013 marathon in them. I LOVE them!! The top material was changed and much more comfortable. Noticably lighter and great cushioning. Just was told they are being replaced. Just hope Asics doesn't through away a great shoe! I am flat footed and put on about 35 to 55 miles a week. Need stability.

What did they do to the forefoot?

3

I've been wearing the Gel Kayano for 4 years or more. My last pr was the 17. This shoe has been so consistently good for me with my forefoot problems (Morton's Neuroma) that I just automatically ordered these when I needed a new pr. As soon as I put them on, I could feel a difference in the forefoot cushioning. There's a pretty dramatice lessening of the cushioning in the 19s vs the previous models. I've worn them running twice and walking 8 times, trying to make them work, but they just don't. I'm sending them back, very disappointed, and on the search for a replacement show. I give them 3 stars because, other then the forefoot cushioning that I need, they are overall very comfortable.

Love 'em!

5

I've had the Kayano 18's so when I needed a black pair I went with the 19's. These may be slightly less cushioned than the 18's and perhaps a bit lighter but otherwise just as great overall for my feet. I have low arches and get plantars fasciitis so the proper shoes are very important to me. I tried to save a few bucks by going with the Brooks GTS 13's but they felt like they had no cushioning at all and made my feet hurt after only a few minutes wearing them. They went back the very next day. I don't do much running anymore with all the foot and knee pains but I wear the Kayano 19 in the gym and around all day because they make my feet happy!

look at this

5

I have run in NB for the past 10 years always thought my pain was just my feet. I finally decided I had to look for a better shoe tried the new Kayano 19 . What a difference... pure heaven, the shoe is made perfectly for my foot . My legs also feel much better, have more strength and instead of my shoes fighting against me they actually help propel me down the road. I train for half marathons and feel that these shoes can handle the mileage without breaking down before the tread wears out! I will never run in NB again.

Perfect!

5

I run nearly every day and have been progressively doing longer distances as I am training for a marathon. I swapped from Asics to Saucony a year ago due to ankle problems, but my old Saucony Guides were starting to rub horribly on the inside of my feet when I went past 5 miles, so I decided to try these Kayanos. I wore them for a day of walking, then did an 8 mile run in them 2 days later. WOW is all I can say. Absolutely no pain or hot spots and the shoes are much lighter than my old Sauconys. I am buying a couple of other pairs to keep on hand for when these old ones wear out!

In LOVE with the 19s!! Best Kayano yet!!

5

I have had a pair of every Kayano since the 16 (my previous favorite) and LOVE LOVE LOVE the 19s. It feels much lighter than the 18 but still provides the stability I need. I overpronate and have a very high arch (think dancer feet) and this helps cushion my arch but is very light that it doesn't feel bulky. I haven't had a chance to put in more than 10 miles at a time yet on these puppies, but I'm very excited for the upcoming racing season. I'm expecting some new PRs!! I've loved every Kayano I've owned, some more than others - I'm not a huge fan of the 18s. But the 19s are my new favorite. Well worth the price.

Truly great shoes!

5

I had been struggling to find a stability shoe that wasn't too rigid with more flexibility and cushioning and this is it! I have tried the Brooks Adrenaline 13 (which to be fair, I do like, but the Kayano is a plusher ride), the Brooks Ravenna (which hurt my arches), the New Balance 1260V2 and on and on. When I finally landed on the Kayano 19 I fell in love! I run 15-20 miles a week and do bootcamp 3 x's a week and these shoes fit the bill. Great stability without being too over the top, great cushioning, good toe box that doesn't cramp, fun colors...just an overall great shoe! On top of all that, Road Runner is a great store, whether I go in or order online.

Great Update

5

The Kayano has always been my favorite shoe and the newly updated GEL-Kayano 19 doesn't dissapoint! I am training for the Rock 'n Roll Las Vegas in these shoes and have had no discomfort or pain in my shins, which I genreally get due to my low arches. This shoe provides great cushioning and stability. I also really like the fun new colors!

Love these shoes!

5

These are the most comfortable running shoes I have ever owned! Straight out of the box, no breaking in required. I got a half size larger than my normal shoe size which gives just enough room for swelling during activity, but not too much to where you are slipping around. The gel cushion support in the mid/forefoot of the shoe is great for my running style as I put more weight on my forefoot than my heel. I have knee problems and so far I can feel a difference with these shoes in comparison to other Asics I have owned. Great price. Definitely recommend!

kayanos keep on improving

4

I was long overdue for some new running shoes. My last favorite pair were Asics Gel-Kayano-16 which served me valiantly, so I decided to purchase what I know worked. Side by side with the 16s, the 19s have what appear to be a more narrow toe box. However after 20+ miles in them already (longest run was about 9mi), I haven't noticed any hot spots. I also have not noticed much of a change between the asymmetrical to symmetrical lacing. These shoes are also much lighter than the past generations and I'm loving the colors. Looking forward many more miles in these kayanos!

Not a Kayano 18 replacement!

2

My Kayano 18 shoes were needing replacing, so I opted for the 19's. Thinking that the 19 would be as great for me as the 18 I was super stoked for an easy transition. No such luck. The toe box was way too big. The cushioning felt worse than my worn out 18's and the arch support is non-existant. Just little 5 miles runs caused the balls of my feet to ache, sharp pains in my ankles as well as on the top of my feet! Running in my worn out 18's was better than these! I was really sad to send them back... loved the color!

Perfect Shoe for Me!

5

As a personal trainer, I am in these shoes all day, 6 days a week. I've ordered the Kayano 19 shoe 3 years in a row even though they now have Kayano 20 and 21. Not willing to take any chances with a different fit. It's perfect for anyone with foot problems like bunions or hammertoes as the toe box of the shoe provides extra width and comfort. I easily run, walk, cross train, etc. in these shoes. The mesh fabric makes them extremely breathable so I can wear them all year round.

First Time in Yrs Using Try It Return It

3

This did not help my underpronation. It was a light weight shoe, but I didn't feel as though it could handle the miles I put on a shoe. I am an Asics lover, major runner, run on the average 60 miles a week, just didn't have the cushioning and the support I needed. In the 10 yrs I've been running this is the first time I am returning them. I used the 90 day trial, and I sent them back after using them only twice. Sorry to say. but exchanging for the Gel-Nimbus 15. Lightweight but so much cushioning and support.

5

I have had 4 foot surgeries and have very flat feet. It is very hard to find shoes that feel good AND look good. Well the Kayanos are both! I wear these all day long from the time I get up to the time I go to bed. My feet no longer ache at the end of the day. These shoes look great with jeans or anything else. I've never loved a pair of shoes this much! So glad I was able to get the dark gray with blue as my last pair of Kayanos were white and I had to wash them once a week.

I used to run in the earlier models of the Asics Gel Kayano. I got talked in to switching to Mizunos but then decided to go back to Asics because I loved the cushioning they offered in the past. These felt great right out of the box but ever since the first time I ran in them, they have rubbed horrendous blisters on the insides of my feet. I am training for my 4th marathon right now and cannot train in these shoes. I am going to have to send them back. They are obviously not made the same as in the past.
