I retired from ultra marathon racing with 37 years of running. I still head out the door and run between 2 and 23 miles at a time. I just don't race anymore. I have high arches. Why would I wear a shoe designed for low arches? By far the Brooks Beast 11 and the entire line over the years provided the most cushion and control. Yes, I move a lot slower running in them because of the weight. However, I experience less injuries. With the Brooks Beast 11 I am less prone to twist ankles or ache from pounding pavement. On trails, there is a bit of a trade off. Up mountains the weight makes the climb much slower and challenging. Fatique is a factor on the longer runs. Down mountains, its a well-cushion ride without the pounding pain I may experience with other shoes. For some reason few other motion control shoe seems to work for my feet (Brooks makes a motion control trail shoe that seems to be okay but still not quite the fit of a Beast). I highly recommend Brooks Beast for old retired race veterans with a few accumulated injuries and joint pains.
If I could change anything about the Beast it would be the weight. If there was a way to find another shoe with the exact same fit and feel but with less weight I would take them. Other motion control shoes in the Brooks line do not feel anything like the BEAST.
Incredible performance and comfort!!
I have been through more motion control shoes than I care to admit! I have tried all of them, Asics, Saucony, Mizuno, New Balance, etc...not one pair live up to the Beast.
I am 5'7" and 170lbs so I am not the typical guy to be found in these shoes. My issue is that I have pancake flat feet, not even the slightest hint of an arch. I run about 5 miles a day and have suffered through knee injuries and constant shin splints. I had always shyed away from the Beast due to the weight and misconception that they were for big, heavier runners. I started with the Beast 9 and no shin splints, no knee pain, etc...the 10's were not good! The 10's were super heavy, felt very stiff and seemed to lack the cushioning that the 9's had.
I bought the 11's a couple months ago and let me say that Brooks really outdid themselves with this shoe!! They are by far the best Beast that I have tried to date. They fit great, required barely any break in time, cushioning is incredible and the support is perfect. If you are on the fence about the Beast let me push you off of it.....buy them now! Your feet, ankles and knees will be thanking you!
Big Dude? Flat Feet? Buy These!
I've been on the hunt for a good shoe for me for many years. I've tried all the high end ASICS Kayano's (which i liked, but a little too soft), as well as some New Balance and Nike shoes. All were "ok" but none were "wow"....until now. I picked up these Brooks Beast 11's and just wow. I'm a big guy (350+), 6' tall with very flat feet. I'm no runner but I need good supportive shoes that keep my flat feet from moving around in the shoe. These Beast's are BY FAR the best shoe I've ever put on my feet. Perfect motion control and extremely comfortable. I just may be buying Brooks Beasts forever more.
Best shoe for heavy runners
I'm 5'10 and 215lbs. I run every other day and my mileage varies from day to day but equals out to 20-25 miles a week. I've struggled for most of my military career to find a pr of shoes that do not cause knee or feet pain. My Commander recommended the Beast! I bought a pr and have never looked back. No pain whatsoever and I've been buying 2 pairs a year since 2004-2005. I have gotten other people to buy them too. These are worth the 100+ dollars to be able to not have to take time off from running and popping Ibuprofen. I hope Brooks will continue producing the Beast because I am a lifetime customer.
Successful Upgrade of a Fantastic Line
I have used Brooks Beast since 2009 and they just get better! This new upgrade is lighter, and you can feel the difference. The cushioning is excellent and recovers quicker. I can now do two-a-days without hurting at the end of my second run.
The only problem is the lack of color choices. Gray white and a splash of Navy? There is no shame in having a colorful shoe, I promise.
It is a wonderful ride and I think it has helped me drop my pace from 10:30 to 9:00 -- that or the weekly hill-repeats. :)
I have very wide, totally flat feet and wear custom orthotics every day. The Brooks Beast is the shoe of choice for guys with feet like me and it's the number one shoe recommended by the podiatrists I've seen over the years too for wide, flat, over-pronating feet. It's now the only sneaker I wear... And, now they're even better. Finally, they don't look so orthopedic-like in their styling. It's nice for guys like me to be able to wear a pair of shoes, finally, that look like normal sneakers, but still give all the bene's that we need for width, support and stability. Great job Brooks!
I would buy this product again and again
I am am avid runner, and I did seven half marathons in 2010. My goal is to do nine this year, and I need a GREAT running shoe for that. I have been running in Brooks Beasts since 2006, and this latest version of the Beast has eliminated some heel pain I was experiencing with a year old version of the shoe. These new Beasts will do the job for me, they have already gotten rid of the heel pain, and I'll be ready to rock and roll through my half marathons when the season starts in April.
I have Plantar Fasciitis, due to my extremely large and flat feet( size 14). Till this point I have exclusively worn high end New Balance Basketball shoes since I use custom orthotics and the mid/high top allows enough room to place the thick insole in the shoe without raising your foot's CG too high out of the shoe. The beast does accept orthotics failry well for a running shoe. It will prob. be plenty supportive for 90% of people with the stock sockliners as they are very good, but with my PF and high activity level I needed the orthotics still. [$] is a little pricey, but extra manufacturing steps of this particular shoe can help justify it (stability web, etc). If you have flat feet I recomend at least trying these on, they are solid. If weight is more of an issue than foot pain then don't go with these, but if you are buying these then your prob. not an olympic athlete and an extra couple ounces isn't going to be too noticable in your times.
agreed- best beast ever
I've been using various Beasts (with the occasional Nike, New Balance, or Saucony) for 10 years, and agree these are the best, most comfortable ever! Somehow they are both cushiony and supportive, so they feel relatively fast and energizing (like most MC shoes are a little heavy but that's fine). I weigh around 190 and have pretty flat feet. I'm not sure what they could improve on this shoe- I will have to stock up if the next Beast goes awry.
Know, first of all, that shoe reviews/recommendations are purely subjective. YMMV. I've been running in Brooks Beast for quite a while now. I have worn out pairs of Beast 9s and 10s. I was out on a 7 mile run when I noticed that my feet, ankles and shins seemed to be taking a pounding. When I finished, I looked back and saw that I was due for new shoes (no surprise!). The Beast 11s came soon thereafter and I've been running in them for 2 weeks. I find them to be a nice upgrade from the 10. They feel lighter and not quite as squishy. I have a pair of Addiction 9s and the Beast 11 is not as firm as that, but definitely more firm than the 9 and 10. Great support, as always. The sizing hasn't changed in years, so no problems there. Some say they're "too heavy", but if you're a "big" runner with flat feet, do a couple of ounces really matter? My only wish is that the black would come in wider sizes...I've got too many blue pair around the house!

The Beast 11 holds true to its legacy
I'm big. The Beast line has always been there for me to allow me to run...even when I was at my heaviest (275 lbs). I'm currently down to 235, the Beast has allowed me to quickly pick up distance, frequency, and speed due to its close fit, cushioning, and motion control. I've found that the catalog description of the size is inaccurate...I think they fit true. I've got a full size 13 foot, and I wear them with thick padded Thorlo running socks. Even though it may not occur to you, your feet get bigger when you're fat. When I was at my fattest they still fit without squeezing my toes. I've tried other "shoes for big guys," but gave up trying after a few years. If you like the New Balance fit, you may not like the Beast. I've always found that NBs are too boxy. The fit of the beast is more form-fitting. I feel that the Beast absorbs shock better than the NB, too...which is why I've stuck with the Beast.
Best one yet
I've been running in the Beast since 1997 and think that this is the best one yet. The fit of the last two were not quite wide enough for me
even in a 4 E. This one fits me fine, is well cushioned and yet very stable. I love this shoe
and know that I have a great shoe for the next 2 years ( I hope they don't change the fit again).
I know that this shoe is $$$, but its worth it if I don't get injured.
30 years' experience
Running, walking, working out, doesn't matter...same make shoe for almost thirty years and I keep coming back for the best made, longest lasting, most comfortable and supportive training shoe around. First 10K I ran, my instep almost fell flat from the exhaustion. Promised myself that would never happen again. With the Beast it hasn't and I doubt it ever will. Buy it.
6'4" 258 lbs
I've been through several pairs or Brooks Beast through the years. Most consistant shoe I've ever owned. Run between 30-40 miles per week with weight ranging from 220 to as high as 250. I keep two pair at all times and rotate regularly and definitely when I tried another shoe that was lighter in weight I paid the price and went straight back to the Beast.

Beasts are the best
I have narrow, flat feet and have always had trouble finding shoes that both fit well and don't give me problems with my feet. I've tried several of the other motion control shoes, but they end up giving me sore knees or feet. I am 6'4" and about 180, I run 3 to 4 days a week. The Beasts are the best!
Des Moines IA
My second pair of Brooks Beast and I am hooked on this brand. Most comfortable shoes for my flat feet! I can run over an hour in these shoes and have no feet, knee,or hip pain. Great cushioning and pronation control. This years model is not bad looking either for a motion control shoe.
Don't Buy Until You read This!
I've run in the many versions of the Brooks Beast for over a decade and this shoe still performs at a high level. I am a flatfooted runner and the Brooks beast is the best shoe that I have found. I lift weights and run sprint intervals on the treadmill and I completely endorse this shoe.
I have been wearing the Beast since 1997. I feel that this is the best one yet. The stability and cushioning are outstanding. The fit is slightly wider so my little toe does not rub like the last model did. All in all one of the best shoes I have used in my 35 years of running.
Flat feet? Buy this shoe!
I have flat feet and a short achillles tendon. This is the only shoe I have found that works 110% for me. I am 210lbs and have been told not to run long distances since I was 10. This year I have run a marathon, 3 halfs, and 4 10ks.
Shake n Bake
This is my 9th pair of beasts and I can say that they truly are the best shoes ever! They are very well made and fit like a dream. When you run it feels like your running on a cloud! A must own!

Cure for my Achilles problems
This is the only shoe that allows me to run longer runs (6-10 miles) without foot problems, which makes me a little biased. Of course I'm going to think it's a great shoe! If you've got too much motion in your gait, this shoe will fix the problem.
Ironman tested, athlete approved
As a 200lb guy who loves Ironman distance racing, I had a real hard time finding the right shoe....that is until I found the Beast. The interior is supple and comfortable, regardless of the distance, and the cushioning is perfect for my heel-strike running style. Adding this shoe to my gear list has contributed to a reduction in overuse injuries, making my training more fun. When I go running, I'll only go with the Beast
This is my first week using Beasts and I have been feeling incredible. This is maybe the better running shoe that I ever had. I have totally flat feet and use to run 26-32 miles/week. Thanks Brooks
Train to Win
I have been running with the Beast 11's for almost a month now and have been putting roughly twenty miles a week on them. Most of the terrain has been gravel road and rocky trails with intermittent stretches of asphalt. The shoes felt like they were completely broken in after about ten or twelve miles but don't let that mislead you, as they were pretty comfortable right out of the box and I didn't notice any unusual rubbing or soreness during the break in period. Once they have been broken in, they really begin to shine as a rugged and reliable training shoe that will provide you with the cushion and support that you were looking for. I would not recommend these for race days as they are a bit on the heavy side and that extra weight will hurt your times. They are an excellent training shoe, though, and I am quite pleased with the quality that Brooks has put out this year. I took away a star from an otherwise outstanding shoe simply because I felt the price was a bit on the greedy side. The Beast 11 is still, however, a great shoe for anyone who is serious about training and I am very satisfied with the purchase.
Excellent update to the Brooks Beast line - they appear to be lighter - which was the only drawback, to the Beast, as i know it.
The Brooks Beast IS THE standard for pronation control. I need the Beast, and prescribed orthodics no less, to control my natural pronation.
Despite this, and please note that I've run over 12K miles in 7 years, including 4 Bostons...the Beast does work, and really well, if you need it. No knee problems, no hip or other problems - just steady mileage - and i'm 50 years old now - who can ask for more?
And, on top of all that, the Beast wears really well. I can get a lot of miles on a pair of Beasts without seeing any problems - and i've owned many, many pairs of the Beast.
I really like what Brooks is doing - i mean, 12k miles, 4 Bostons (and i'm BQ'ed and entered for number 5), with no injuries AT 50 years old...just excellent (and no, i don't work for them - this is a real review). whatever they are doing, they are doing it right.
So...if you need the Beast, go for it. BTW, in races, i use the Adrenaline GTs - less pronation control but much lighter - OK for racing. Brooks is the real deal, imho.
Hope this review helps somebody.
Even better than the last Beast
I've been wearing the Brooks Beast for years as it's the best shoe I can find for low arch/flat feet. The Beast 11 is an improvement over previous models. It's a little lighter and lass "clunky". This is a great shoe.

Flat footer to the rescue
Very solid just short of excellent running sneaker.extremely comfortable. Great for low to no arch feet like mine. Ran a little small. Usually order wide, these I had to return to get extra wide.

Back in step with my Beast 11
I have tried several motion control shoes over the past several years and finally found this version of the Beast to be the best one yet. I run 4 times a week training for a marathon and these shoes have worked wonders on my knees and hips so far. I hope they don't tinker too much with this design and I will continue to buy them.
Best Motion Control Shoe
Best Motion Control Shoe on the market. Great shoe for Super-Nater runners and gives the best support of any shoe I've ever owned.

I have always come back to the beast
I like the shoes. My concern is that they get stiff in the cold. More so than other shoes I have had. they could use a little more heel cushioning.
