After testing out and returning a variety of neutral shoes, I chose the Ghost 5. A bit about me, I'm 5'10'', just under 180 and run 3 to 7 miles a pop. I prefer to run on moderate trails but I'll run on pavement if the weather forces me to do so. The Ghost provides me with just the right amount of firm/responsive cushioning, a bit of stability as well as solid arch support. Despite running hotter than average, I find the shoes very breathable. Traction is just fine. The only con I have it that the shoes, for me, tend to wear out between 150 and 200 miles. I am currently on my third pair and I'm stocking up.
I normally don't bother writing reviews, mostly because our feet/bodies are all so different I don't usually find them helpful, unless someone points out an obvious defect in the shoe. But I'm writing this review because I really love this shoe, and while I know writing a review won't stop the powers that be from changing the model, I wanted to advocate for leaving this shoe as it is. Hopefully the next model will have different colors but will remain largely the same.
First Neutral shoe
I'm 6'3" 230, mid-foot lander, "regular" shoe size 13D. For 25 years I ran in Motion Control shoes. The word back then was that MC was correct for heavy runners. The Beast in size 14-2E has served me well, with an occasional Asics Gel Evolution mixed in. Now MC shoes are properly described for flat feet, which I do not have. I noticed in a recent triathlon photo that my foot was turned under. I was running on the outer edges of my shoes, which is the way a MC shoe will push you. A few weeks ago I was fitted for orthotics, and the Pedorthist, also a Brooks enthusiast, recommended the Dyad. The Dyad doesn't come in 2E width, so the good folks at RRS suggested the Ghost. I walked in them for a week to get used to the new orthotics, then worked up to my regular 3-4 mile runs. They're very comfortable, sturdy, and I can feel that my foot is finding its own line. I have learned to expect great durability from Brooks and VIP service from RRS is outstanding!
Skipped a generation, but still happy
Brooks Ghost 3 was my favorite pair of running shoes. I missed a generation, but I took a gamble on 5 and wasn't disappointed.
I'm recovering from ACL and meniscus repair surgery (soccer injury) eight months ago. Before injury, I was training for a 50K/marathon, two-day ultra (ran 18 miles the day before injury). I'm a midfoot striker who has always worn neutral shoes and always needs a wide width. Most of my running is on concrete and paved paths, which weren't agreeing with my knee on old shoes.
The Ghost 5 feels just as fast as the 3, and there's some extra cushioning in the Achilles area. It makes the shoe feel a little more secure, so I lace it a little looser than before. The only downside I can think of is the lacing is a little weird. The top eyelets have an extra plastic tab affixed to them, and they make lacing a little awkward.
Not the Shoe for Me Either!
Count me as another one of those runners who doesn't write many reviews. That said, this shoe is pretty, but I was not a real fan of the lack of midsole cushioning. It feels non-existent. The heel feels pretty good, but the transition from the heel to forefront when the shoes strikes left me feeling a lot of impact because of the lack of cushio up front. I don't get it because the shoe looks like it has adequate cushioning. I also added a size up like the sizing guide advised to do, but the shoe felt a tad big, meaning it is probably close to true sizing. Thanks to Roadrunner Sports for the VIP treatment as I have to sent these back. This make/model has too many good reviews for me to call it a bad shoe though. Just a bad shoe for me.
Scott the Runner
my new favorite
I had been an adidas fan, loved the ride3 and supernova glide. but they changed those and the new versions were no good for me. So I went on the high reviews of the ghost. No problems at all, which probably means its a great shoe for me. I have done 20+ mile runs in them and put over 200 miles on this pair, never the slightest issue or complaint. Running shoes are personal, but for my extremely high arched feet, these work great. I should probably get a few extra pair before they go and change them...
Love them but falling apart
Bought them on June 23 and now August 10 will return them as these shoes have not held up well at all and are falling apart.
The mesh is beginning to wear away as is the lace holders. I walk 2 to 3 miles per day on the gym treadmill and 2 to3 miles in my sub-division daily. This type of wear should not be happening so soon to these supposedly well made shoes.
I really do love them aside from them falling apart on me.
Decent, but returned them.
At first I really liked these shoes, but that changed after a few runs. They didn't seem deep enough, so when you put in a decent set of inserts the tongue isn't wide enough and you get some lace digging in the foot. The padding in the midsole wasn't up to my expectations. They look great and were comfortable around the house, but I needed something for 15 miles a week of running. Thanks to the awesome VIP perks I returned them for the more padded Glycerines - so far so good.
Brooks Ghost series has always been a great fit. A little firmer and lighter than the Glycerin's. I used to run in nothing but Glycerin's but the Ghost is a way better shoe. Lighter, and little more spring that Glycerins, and they don't have the squishy feel of the Glycerin. Looks clunky but runs fast. I've used it for 5K, 10K , half's and marathons. Good all around training and racing shoe for the not-so skeletal semi-serious runners.
Very uncomfortable and stiff
I ran with Asics Nimbus and loved them. They did not have my size and I took recommendation to try the Brooks Cloud. It may be good for heavier runners, but I've never had a pair of shoes this uncomfortable and stiff. I have high arches and the arch support isn't there without orthotics.
I usually have not needed to break in shoes. However, these are so uncomfortable for me, I don't want to begin.
I have come back to Brooks
I was running in the Asics Noosa Tri Six and loved them. I tried the Tri Seven but did not like the fit. I had not purchased a Brooks shoe in several years and bought the Ghost 5 after reading the recommendation in the last issue of Runners' World. I have had the Ghost 5's for about four weeks and have already put 150 miles on them. They are a great shoe and the VIP price is just icing on the cake.
Changed from Asics
I've been running in Asics Nimbus for the past several years. Didn't care for the fit of the Nimbus 14 and decided to try the neutral Ghost 5. I'm 6' 2" and 200 lbs. Usually run around 20 to 25 miles a week. Have been very pleased with this shoe. Great fit and just the right amount of cushioning. However, the shoe does fit small and I highly recommend ordering 1/2 size larger than usual.
New Mexico.....Land of Enchantment
Not the shoe for me
I use the shoe as my primary training shoe. I'm 5'6 - 133 lbs. This shoe has created issues from the get go with blisters (I rarely, if ever get - 39 yrs of running), followed by my current foot injury where I have intense pain on the top of the foot. I have never run in a shoe that has created such issues in such a short span of time. This shoe is not for the light, competitive runner.
I tried the Mizuno Wave Rider (very painful and could not get the fit right) and the Saucony Progrid Ride 5 (very cushy, but no support in the mid section) on the road and could get the right fit. The VIP deal is unbelievable and I am very happy to have found the perfect shoe for me. I am very critical of shoes and can't believe the great fit of these.

I'll keep buying
I run 40+ miles a week and will go higher for marathon and ultra training. Third pair of Ghost. I will continue to purchase and wear as long as marketing leaves it alone. I haven't really put them to the test yet (20 miler) but they will perform well based on the other Ghosts, 1 and 3 models. A VERY slight more width in the forefoot would be helpful.
Running 4 Kids
Good shoe but not quite right for me.
Decided to try the ghost as an alternate to the Brooks Glycerin which I have been using the last three years. Shoe was ok, not bad, but ran in them twice and had sore knees and legs each time so returned them and went back to the Glycerins. Seemed to be a good shoe but just didn't work well for me. 5'5", 160 poounds, 25-30 miles per week runner.
Great neutral-fit shoes
I am a diabetic who is always looking for shoes that fit really well! The Brooks Ghost 5 is the latest shoe that I love! Comfortable from the get-go, my diabetic orthotics fit very well into them. I am happy to wear them both for working out (running, walking, weight-lifting) and for day-to-day use for job/after job errands.

This is a great pair of shoes, they offer ample cushioning and they have a great ride. I run about twenty five miles a week and have not had any issues with my feet. My first pair lasted about 350 miles until the cushioning in the forefoot wore out; the rest of the shoe is still in good shape and I use it as an everyday shoe.
Good Running Shoe
I loved these at first. Then the upper area where the shoe string ties started to feel uncomfortable on my left foot. I was able to loosen the area and it's better but not perfect. Looking forward to trying the 6 to see if this is improved. Otherwise this is a great running shoe! This issue is most likely specific to MY foot!
Ghost 5 Review
Use this shoe as daily trainer. Perhaps the most comfortable and relaxed shoe for mid to heavier wt distance runner. Supports mechanics easily throughout foot strike. I felt this shoe is an outstanding value. I cannot find anything wrong with it and look forward to my next pair
Really liked Ghost 4 & wore through a pair of Ghost 5. Designers have added a heel cup that has two nasty seams on the inside. The first shoes the seam was noticeable but tolerable. Not so the second I tried. Check out the inside heel before taking these home.
I'm 190 pound runner and run about 25 miles a week and this is a great shoe that holds up over the long haul. I have gotten about 550 miles on each pair and I'm on my third pair right now. They are comfortable right out-of-the-box and highly recommend them.
Brooks Not Quite as Wide as Saucony
I think this is a great shoe, but unfortunately, fits a little tight. For a true wide (2E) I will have to stick with Saucony or Mizuno. I recommend the shoe to someone that only requires a slightly wider shoe.
Old Guy Runner
A great pair shoes
The Ghost 5's are an awesome running shoe. I'm currently training for a triathlon so I am running about 15 miles a week and these shoes rock. Highly recommended these for sure.
Running is fun!

Excellent Shoe and Best so far
I only ever used the Ghost 5 for running, they're my dedicated running shoe. I would recommend to any friend thats a neutral runner that they should buy them. No complaints.
Ghost5- fits great
I run 20-30 miles a week, wanted to try a lighter weight shoe. Last shoe was Ravena3, the Ghost 5 fits well, is light, comfortable. Ran my fastest half- marathon in them today
208lb male runner finds this shoe very supportive, provides stability and nice cushion. I run 4 to 6 miles 5 days a week.
Will buy these again.
Pefect fit for my foot
I ran 5 days/ week, 6 miles / day in these for over a year, and they have been great. Very comfortable, great cushioning, no hot spots.
I have bought this shoe 3 times
I have been able to run injury free since using this shoe.
Slow & Steady
Brooks Ghost 5
I run about 20-25 miles a week. Live these shoes.
Overall good shoe
