I ride road and mountain bikes. I'm something between a weekend warrior and a competitive rider, heading more in the competitive direction. I ride 5-7 times per week, approximately 100 miles/week. I was having trouble with slow recovery after riding (especially commuting to/from work). I found that this product gave me more energy to perform at a higher level during workouts as well as reduced my recovery time so I wouldn't feel as sore and sluggish if I rode 15 miles in the morning and another 15 on the hot ride home after work. It also has made it easier for me to ride road & mountain bike on back to back days, which I like. Good product. Combine with a healthy diet, hydration, and protein immediately after your workouts for great results. I sometimes also drink G2 after rides to help hydrate / replenish electrolytes when I don't need to keep pouring on the carbs. This stuff has 10 Kcal per fluid ounce (same as skim milk)!

Orange is my favorite

I have been using Accelerade for several years now after having it recommended by a track coach. I have never had any problems with digestion or cramping when using this product and I use it both before and during exercise. I feel like I have an unfair advantage when using this product as my energy and endurance levels are both increased during long bike rides, stair workouts or ultimate Frisbee games.

Taste isn't great, but fuels workouts

4

I think that Accelerade really fuels my runs well, but I'm not totally in love with the taste. (I ordered the Mountain Berry flavor.) It tastes a bit chalkier to me than a drink like Gatorade, but the flavor isn't necessarily "bad," and I keep drinking it because I think it fuels my workout really well and helps my recovery. If you really like sweet drinks for workouts you may not like it, but if you're looking for something to give you good performance, I'd try this product.

Good product, no cramps

5

I've tried other products that gave me cramps if I took it during a run. Also, for after the run, I used to take something that turned out to be a little too high in calories. None of these problems with Accelerade. I like how you can take this before, during, and after. That being said, be sure to take enough water bottles of this when you go running (or a big bottle).

Excellent Product

5

This product does the job for us long distance runners, be it a three mile run or a half marathon. It comes packed with energy that we need, and it quenches our thirst which is inevitably going to affect us during our runs. Versus replying on a water handout during a half marathon, we should all utilize this drink to replenish us and allow us to easily finish our races and to recover that much quicker. I'll never consider running any distance with this drink.

Testing it out right now

Bought this for the first time. Seems like from the description it should be better than your average sports drink. Little different taste--looks kind of orange juice--not a "clear" product when mixed, so it looks a little to me like a milk product mixed with orange sports drink. I'm getting used to it, but can't tell yet if it is much better during runs. It's not served on my marathon course, so I hate to rely on it too much.

Ideal Refueling on Multiple Workout Days

4

I would rate the Acclerade a 5 out of 5 in performance, but a 3 out of 5 for value. Its great to take during a workout in the morning to ensure you are nourished for an evening workout. Or if you have two big workouts on back-to-back days. I would not recommend for race use because the protein is not needed and would slow down your digestive tract.

Physiologically Sound

4

This product in the compendium of "sports drinks" actually performs with some basic cellular attributes- The protein/carbohydrate ratio is of sound nutritional dogma. I train for life and have varied my ingestion of work out mediums from running the Pikes Peak Ascent to Cross Fit and Army Training. This product should be trialed by serious physically challenging individuals. It may not be just an individual preference.

Testing it out right now

4

Just trying this product for the first time. Tastes okay--a little hard to get used to at first--kind of tastes like milk mixed with OJ. (Has milk and soy protein). Not served on my marathon course, so I don't want to rely on in solely. Package information claims it to be better than the average sports drink.

Still my favorite sports drink

4

I use Accelerade during all my long runs and during marathons and half-marathons. Nothing else seems to work as well for me in terms of endurance and recovery time. The protein gives it a little milky quality which took a little getting used to. I only like the "berry" (blue-colored) flavor; the others were pretty bad.

Tasty recovery drink

4

I've been using Accelerade as a recovery drink after runs throughout Spring/Summer this year. In short it works and it's tasty (the orange flavor at least) - all I need. The only downside for me is that I experienced slight GI upset using it every day. So I just skip it on easy days and 3/4 times a week seems to work fine for me.

I really had good results ...

5

I really had good results with the lemon-flavor. I used it while training and during my last 1/2 and full marathons this past May. The taste is a bit icky when warm, but I usually mixed it with ice cubes and water in my hand-held water bottle to keep it cool as long as possible. I had no tummy problems, and I really felt it helped with energy on those runs longer than 1 hour.

I've been using Endurox ...

5

I've been using Endurox on the bike for three years now. I have been around and trialed just about every drink floating around in the world of triathlon and so far I haven't been able to part with Endurox. My body craves the stuff when I run out of it on long rides and I'm forced to switch to gas station gatorade. I don't suggest drinking substantial amounts before an intense run (I'm assuming the protein in it, which is a blessing on the bike, is what disrupts the bouncing GI tract on the run.) I've found as long as I'm not chugging bottles of it it works just fine on the run too though. But if you're a cyclist, there's nothing better in my experience. It helped me achieve a 7th place overall amateur bike split during the Lake Placid Ironman, so I think it deserves every one of its five stars.

A Solid Staple Of My Hard Runs For Years

Before and during long and/or hard runs. Great energy and hydration. Noticeably increases my performance. Only downside is that orange flavor doesn't come with caffeine.

This product is fine, but ...

4

This product is fine, but RRS took a major step back in discontinuing the Orange flavored drink that does not contain caffeine. I see no reason for any runner to require caffeine during a run, and I am an early morning runner. I had call Pacific Health to confirm that they still sell non-caffinated Orange--they do--and then I had to go to an RRS competitor to buy it. I STRONGLY recommend that RRS start selling non-caffinated Orange again. They'll have to if they want my regular business for this drink.

IT"S NOT THE SAME

3

Have been buying the mountain berry flavor for years and liked it very much. Just got a new order and it isn't the same. It used to be a light blue color when mixed but now looks like dirty dishwater. The taste is off from what it was and it doesn't seem to mix as well as it used to. I tried calling the company to ask what is going on, but nobody answers phones, it's all voice mail and I refuse to play phone tag. I bought two cans on my last order. I'll be returning the unopened can and haven't decided if i'm going to continue to use the can that was opened. The one thing I do know, i'll be looking for a new sports drink.

Out of all the sports ...

5

Out of all the sports drinks I've tried, Accelerade (fruit punch) suits me the best for long, strenuous bike rides (never tried any sports drinks during a run though). First of all, it doesn't make me phlegmy like the others do. Second, it feels like fuel for my body: it's hard to describe the feeling, but after I drink some on a ride, it feels like "my body needed that" -- whereas after I drink other sports drinks on a ride, it feels like "hope that helps." =)

4

I would give the product a 5 but the last time I ordered the Orange it DID NOT have caffeine in it. I love accelerade and have gotten many of my friends to try and use. Right now I have the lemonade with caffeine, but would like the orange back. Even asked the guy at warehouse in Columbus to look if they had any of the older stuff and they didn't. Wish other flavors came with caffeine too. Hope RRS will offer the Accelerade Hydro soon....

4

I have always loved the Accel Gel on long runs and when I ran out I had a container of Accerade that I purchased from my local running store. I drank 12 oz prior to a long run and really did feel the difference. My son uses it before his hockey games. He calls it Hurcu-aid, you know like Hurcules. I do think that RRS has a high price, my local running store charges much less and I am a VIP member.

Excellent product

5

While I use gels and this product while running long, for soccer or shorter workouts up to 90 minutes or before workout I prefer just staying with Accelerade. For soccer and runnning I did not take anything else than water and decided to change in prep of a half marathon. It really makes a great difference. I like this product because my muscles do not get tired by far as they did before. Great product. Tastes good, not best, but I prefer functionality!

5

Taste good. The product really did help my muscles recover faster than without any supplement. I was starting to feel muscle fatigue after three runs during the week before taking this supplement. Now my muscles are not feeling the fatigue even after my five days of running and working out. I like that it has whey protien in it to give you a longer sustaining energy as well as the quicker carb energy. I will purchase this product again.
