Does What it Promises, and Quickly

5

The fit, the size, and the functionality make the FR220 a perfect watch for casual wear as well as a tool for workouts. I've worn this watch daily for 3 months now and the large numbers and backlighting are perfect for everyday use. As a GPS watch, it catches a satellite signal very quickly, within 1-2 minutes. My previous GPS watch, the Soleus 1, would take SEVERAL minutes to pick up a signal so it got to the point where if I didn't activate the Soleus before I got to the starting chute in a race, I wasn't sure if it would pick up in time. I don't have to worry about this with the FR220. The data screens are customizable, and scrolling through them during a run is easy with the large up and down buttons on the left side. For my workouts, I have distance, average pace, and timer on screen 1; speed, current pace, and HR on screen 2; and screen 3 is just the current time. I've also used the watch on an indoor track and it still picked up a GPS signal. The included Garmin Connect software is necessary, though. While it generally works without having to sync, firmware updates will be necessary at times. On one training run, the watch failed to pick up any signal from the satellites at all and because it was set to auto-pause, it kept shutting off during the run. A firmware update when I got home resolved the issue. Finally, it's durable enough to resist moisture from sprinklers and my 9 month old daughter chewing on the face and band.

Great for cadence

4

I have owned the Garmin 205, 305 and 210. I was most interested in something that would accurately record cadence and heart rate, with distance and lap pace being a must. The 205 did not have the heart rate monitor, while the 305 did. Both of these watches were very accurate, but way too big for my small wrist. I purchased the 210 with monitor, but never found that it gave me the information (or I never figured out how to use it) so after reading about the 220, I bought it. So far, I really like the cadence feature, as well as the sound and vibration alert. I have not yet used it on a treadmill so I do not know how accurate the reading for pace and distance will be. I have also not yet used Garmin connect so I cannot comment on that. I do like the flat watch and the way the wrist band fits, but it is still too large for my small wrist. It picks up the GPS signal quickly and pace and distance are as accurate as the other three devices that I have had. I'd like a lower price, but it is comparable to other brands, but don't have experience to compare with those. I would recommend a purchase.

Finally got this watch...and...its ok

3

Received the Forerunner 220 with heart rate monitor-finally! The watch functionally works just as advertised and is easy to use. GPS seems accurate enough. All of the features should keep most runners perfectly content. Syncs with Garmin Connect perfectly. However, the build quality is not what I would expect for a three hundred dollar watch. The materials feel and look cheap. The so called "color" screen is not really a 2013 color screen...it is more like a "color" analog screen that you could find maybe 10 years ago. The colors don't pop at all and are very underwhelming. So in short-the watch is high on function and low on build quality.

Best watch ever

4

Once I got the hang of the menus I was very happy with it. I run and I train at the gym. You can disable GPS for gym workouts with weights but the built in part that allows you to run indoors doesn't not shut off so it tracks the distance I walk during my weigh lifting sessions. I haven't found a work around for that yet. But it's light weight and you can adjust EVERYTHING right on the watch - no need to connect to computer to turn on intervals or anything like that. This is my second watch, my first was the Nike sport watch which is good for beginners but it wears down and underperforms for me, at this point in my training.

Love the Features

4

I am very pleased with the 220 so far. Set up was a breeze. It captured satellites very quickly even the first time I went out for a run. The screen is very legible although i need to explore the online manual a bit more to customize screens. I am of normal build but the strap seems a bit tight when used over a running shirt in cold weather. All in all I am happy with the GPS and HRM functions so far.

I love this watch

5

Love this watch. Had the 210 and hated it because it was difficult to synch with my computer and tough to match up all those little pins with the watch for charging. All that is gone. They've really corrected all the problems with this one. I finish a run, put the watch near my phone and bam, it downloads. Love it. Also, gives me all the data I need to improve my form and my running.

A game changer

5

This is the best Garmin watch yet. Finally has 50m water resistance and is lightweight to boot. It is as light as my old Timex Ironman watch. The design may feel cheap but I think the use of plastic is genius as it allows for better signal reception. I'd take that over a high end looking watch any day.

Love this watch.

Upgraded from a Forerunner 10. So much faster to find and lock in to GPS satellites. No more standing around for 5 minutes. Typically I'm ready to go in less than 30 seconds. HRM also locks in quickly and haven't yet lost the signal.

Would buy again

The Garmin 220 is really easy to use and it finds a signal quickly. The heart rate monitor works well. The only downside is that it will not synch to the Iphone 4 or lower. It will not pair with my Iphone.

Great as far as it goes

The focus of the product is running. I knew that before I bought and took a chance, because of good ratings, that I could make it work for me. I have, but it would be much closer to perfect if it also had cycling and walking modes.

Great!

5

Awesome watch! Easy to use and provides the best of some of the other Garmin Forerunners. I have owned 3 others with the 305 being my favorite until now! It exceeded my expectations!
