I've been running for over 25 years and average 700-800 miles per year. Needless to say I've worn a lot of running shoe brands and styles but for some odd reason I never tried Mizuno's, until last year. WOW I'm so sorry I didn't try them earlier!! I started with the Wave Rider 15's and loved them so much I just had to purchased again, this time however I purchased the Wave Enigma 2 because my poor old knees just can't pound the pavement like they used to. The Enigma 2 is basically the same shoe as the Raider series except the wave plate is extended to the toe box; this really adds a lot of impact absorption for those of us who land midfoot (we used to call this flat foot back in the day). The shoe is amazing! Light, fast and cool (as in airflow). The shoe is designed in a way so that your heals are locked in, there's no sloppiness, the toe box is wide so there's plenty of room for your toes! Its covered in mesh, your feet will say cool, the upper hugs the top of the foot so again there's no sloppiness, this shoe will not move around while running it's kinda like a second skin. Traction is good, even on wet pavement....FYI not good for running in light snow. Some say the shoe is a little on the stiff side, doesn't flex , I agree with that assessment, however only for the first 8-10 miles, after that initial break in the stiffness is gone. I think a lot of people feel this way (as I did) due in part to the way in which the shoe wraps around and holds your foot, that combined with the extended wave plate. But like I said, put a couple of runs in and their as pliable as butter. I really love these shoes and have nothing bad to say about them! If you like/love the Raider 15/16's but need or want a little more cushion do yourself a favor and buy the Wave Enigma 2!
I am 5'9", 175lbs, run about 80 miles a week, was running in Wave Rider 15's and loved them, but wanted a little more cushioning in the forefoot. The Enigma 2's are really responsive and have just enough cushioning. You don't feel it until you run in them and once you do, you will never buy a soft cushioned shoe again. I have tried Vomero's and Glycerin's (both way too soft) and nothing beats the Mizuno Wave. Highly recommend them to any neutral runner.
I'm 6'1" and 225 and run about 20 to 25 miles a week, mixture of road and treadmill. Shoes felt stiff and seemed to push my ankles inward (just out of box.) Finished trial run on treadmill, the cushioning was very good (suprising, because felt very hard while walking around) and still seemed to cause slight overpronation for me (but not as much as just walking.) I've tried these because of reviews for new NB 1080 not enough forefoot cushion (loved the old NB 1080.) I'd probably buy these again, but will see if the feeling of overpronation goes away or if it causes problems.
True to size this time
I had to go up a half size in the original Enigma but am back to my regular size 9 in the Enigma 2.
Plenty of toebox..if your foot is slender it might too wide in forefoot for you. Great transition, excellent firm cushioning..just right..breathablility,too...I love Mizunos ..but not in the winter when snow can clog up the rearfoot outsole...if you a Rider fan and want the same ride but more of it..try the Enigma
My info...190 pounds..wear orthotic in one shoe only...20 miles per week...31 years running..
Fixed all the issues of the original
The original Enigma was way too restrictive and tight-fitting for me. This one is lighter, has great mesh for cooling, and delivers good, firm cushioning in both the front and rear.
The previous poster is right. I find it hard to go back to the slower, softer feeling competitors in this category (Love the new Vomero, too, though). One note on sizing: I was able to wear my usual 10. I'd try them on before deciding to go up 1/2 size. Kind of rides between sizes.

A great all around training shoe. I tried on dozens of pairs of men's and women's (sz 12) shoes and ended up on this "just right" pair based on overall mid-level cushion (not too smushy) and great heel grip (but not too hard). I have a relatively narrow heel but wide toe box and these fit very well. Initial hot spot under the ball of my foot during my first foray (6 miles) in these was gone by the second run. Thanks for the unisex colors, too.
My best yet!
Waited until I had several good runs on them before I wrote a review. I'm coming off of many years in a name brand, highly recommended, N+ shoe. The Mizuno Wave Enigma 2 blows my prior shoes away. They are far more comfortable, let me knees 'float' better and allow me to run further and faster. Traction on wet asphalt is very good too whereas it was terrible on old shoes. I think I've found a new friend :)
Good cushioning... good fit
The Enigma 2 provides ample cushioning in a comfortable neutral shoe. As I'm a heavier runner, forefoot cushioning is important to me... and the Enigma 2 is one of the few shoes out there that delivers.
I found the Enigma 2 runs about a half-size small. But when you get the right size, it's free of binding and hot spots. Even in very wet conditions - I live in southern FL - it's proven comfortable.

Very good for a short time
Bought these at a major discount at a different store or I wouldn't have bought them. These we're very good for the first month or so. The cushioning did not last long. Support is fair, at best. I've switched to Gel Numbus and that is where I noticed the lack of cushioning these have.
They WE'RE very good when I first bought them, but they just don't last.
An Excellent Shoe!
This is my 2nd pair, and they really are a great option if you are looking for a high milage, cushioned running shoe. Mizuno is a quality shoe maker. Watch the sizing. They run a bit small. I wear an 11 in a regular dress shoe, and a 12 in a most running/atheletic shoes. For the Enigma, I went up a 1/2 size going with a 12 1/2. Fits perfect, and very comfortable.
As good as I expected !!!
It's a very good shoe. I decided to change after 8 years with Ascics as the Gel-Nimbus quality was really getting poor. I wanted to get a neutral shoe to fit with my orthopedic inserts. Seems I get the right shoe now. It's more stable with a good impact cushion. Let see how it will last during the coming 6 months.
Leon the runner.
Trying alternatives to Nike changes
First time using this shoe, have been a die hard Nike vomero fan since its beginning but...have nt enjoyed the last couple of models7,8. I am 200 l b 5'10" running 2 ,3 x a week and need a cushioning neutral quality shoe. So the shoe feels good so far I recommend it for 190 l b plus runners
What a comfortable, well fitting shoe!
I run 30 plus miles a week and I rotate this shoe with an Asics Gel Trainer. This shoe is supposed to be a little heavier than the Asics but I don't notice the difference. The fit is great. You feel like your heel is locked into place.
My street shoes are 8 1/2 or 9. I buy 9 1/2 running shoes.
Great replacement to the Nimbus
Purchased these on recomendation to replace my Nimbus 14's (not happy with). These are similar to the 13's (was happy with). 3 long runs in them for marathon training and 3 weeks to race day - very happy with the Mizuno Wave Enigma 2!
Great shoe on and off the pavement. I'm on my second pair. I'm over 220 lbs and the Enigma takes a pounding and softens the blow.
Best Mizuno in 15 years
Finaly enough cushioning for big athletes, 6'4", 225. Fits great, looks great, runs great. Have used many Mizuno models and this is the best ever.
Rock Island, IL
Great workout shoe. No noticeable hot spots and break in was quick. Very comfortable and light weight. Reviews were right on.
