I was skeptical when I tried this shoe on, because I had tried on the first generation of the NB Minimus trail shoe and it just didn't feel right to me--for some reason the sole felt kind of stiff when I walked around the store. It was a shame, because I went in really wanting to love them.
However, once I got these on my feet I knew I had to take them home, if only for a test run (at least in my head--in practice I've purchase every shoe I've ever "tested"). They were just so comfortable and light, and I could feel how great the traction was going to be. Additionally, the sole is wider on the bottom than the NB Minimus Road, which I also own and really wanted to love--but after a couple of miles, the sole was so narrow that I would end up running *on* the seams, which was really uncomfortable. No such problem here!
I took the 10v2s out for a quick trail run, about 3 miles, and they were just as fabulous as I thought they would be. I wore socks, and didn't have any problems with chafing. I liked that the sole felt more pliable, but still had the protection and grippiness of its predecessor. A few days later I also wore them, sockless, for two days straight, walking around Boston, and I almost never go barefoot in shoes because my feet will *always* blister. I only just started developing a hotspot at the ball of one foot at the end of the two days, and my feet were kinda sweaty and had started to rub. I couldn't have hoped for anything better, really.
Love the profile, love the color (I got purple/orange/grey), love the comfort!

Better Minimalist Than Nike Wildhorse 2
Pros: 4 mm drop, wide toe box, doesn't insulate you from the foot strike (so you can feel yourself pushing off for good leg extension in establishing proper running form), sole more than adequate for dirt roads and well used trails, very breathable and comfortable shoe.
Cons: may not be good for really rocky/rugged trails and lightweight construction may make the shoe more vulnerable to wear and tear damage. No problems yet, but I run in mostly dry conditions, and I'm still in the process of putting the first hundred miles on the shoe, so we'll see what happens.
Other comments: The Nike Wildhorse 2 is technically in the same class, with a low drop and a tread meant for trail running, but on the foot, it feels much like a traditional shoe. The sole insulates you from the foot strike, and you don't get much input from the ground at all. Ultimately, this may make it a better option for difficult terrain, but I wouldn't call it a minimalist shoe. Also, expect to wear a half size larger on the Nike and still have less room in the toe box. People with narrower feet and more accustomed to normal running shoes may find the Nike to be a better fit.
Most comfortable shoes I've worn
These are the only shoes I've ever owned that didn't require some kind of period of breaking in. These are ridiculously comfortable and I love them! I live on a tropical island, so breathability is always of high concern for me. I was developing foot pain due to my excessive wearing of flip-flops and so I purchased these to wear casually. They are so great. I love the room in the toe box for my feet to naturally splay. I love these so much that they've become my work out shoe. I'll be ordering another pair soon. For reference, I wear a women's 10 and have medium width feet with a regular arch.
So sad it's no longer being made!!!!
I ordered these shoes because I was looking for a hiking shoe with good traction that I could wear on the trail. I prefer easy to moderate hikes that are already on well established trails, so I didn't need a heavy backcountry hiking boot. This shoe is perfect! It has great grip on the bottom, and once I put them on they felt comfortable and fantastic - no break-in period required! I immediately ordered another pair because I saw they're going out of stock. I can't speak to the wear because I haven't had them for long. But so far - so good! Great, actually! Looking forward to wearing these on many beautiful hikes!
great but poorly constructed
I really love these shoes and have gone on extensive trail runs multiple times as well as minimal pavement usage. The problem I have run into is that the toe of the shoe where the sole wraps around the big toe, has begun to peel away from the upper part. I have only put about 75 miles on the shoes, and think that's pretty unacceptable given the price. I've even tried super gluing the sole back in place, but with the way the shoe is shaped and the natural formation of a foot, it continues to peel. It needs a little redesigning, but aside from that, the shoe is great for trail running. However, I won't be buying these again.
I'm a huge fan of Newton, but these had a better VIP price than the Newton trail shoes. I decided to try them despite the fact that New Balance is good at making a great shoe and then totally changes them the next year. The toe box is great! The comfort is great! The first time I ran with them was 5 miles of rugged, rocky hills. They were great. Next time was a 4 on a snowy day in the mountains of Park City. LOVE THEM. I'm not holding my breath for next year's edition, but this year's are great!
Love these - my 5th pair!
I use these on both trails and road - love them either way. For trails, they're great for any type of terrain. And they're great for creek crossings as they do not get bogged down and feel like you're walking in bricks and they dry quickly. They do wear out quicker than a regular running shoe, but these are minimalist shoes, you have to expect that. I also use these in my CrossFit class. This is my 5th pair (or maybe 6th) and I will continue to purchase these.
I was a disbeliever and now I'm hooked.
I moved recently and am taking advantage of all the trails in my area. I wear New Balance Minimus. As the snow fell, I found the trails slippery. I doubted this shoe would make a difference, but it's sale price and the guarantee that I could ship it back made me say what the heck and order it. I can feel a difference. Sure it's not the same as spikes, but it does grip. So I am happy! Hope you are too after purchasing. =) If not just ship 'em back RR is awesome!
Simply the BEST!
I love theses shoes! This is my third pair and I wear them to work (on my feet 12 hrs). I also wear them to the gym and as a kick around shoe. These are some of the most comfortable shoes I've ever worn and they last a long time with heavy use. For me personally I can only run shorter distances while in the middle of a circuit. They are not good for my shin's on longer runs, but I still love them! Highly recommended!
My favorite road, trail & crossfit shoe
I absolutely love this shoe. Bought two pairs this go-round (one for running; one for CrossFit) which will make them my 4th purchase of this shoe! Just ran a rocky, hilly trail half marathon in them and although the bottom of my heels were slightly bruised from all of the rocks, I wouldn't change the shoe I wear. Traction is good. Light weight. Have a 50k in October, and these will be on my feet.
best shoe ever for wide toe area
This is the first shoe that I don't immediately have to take off after exercise, they are so comfortable. I have a wide toe area and narrow heel and these shoes allow my toes to fan out as they should. Sandals have been my favorite shoes up until these shoes came along - I walk/run(a little) about 30-50 miles a week and am so happy to be able to continue this. At 68 years young, it is so exciting to find a shoe that allows my feet to "be themselves".
New magic bullets
I tend to be a Merrell Pace Glove type shoe wearer but THESE are truly amazing shoes. I love the New Balance Nimbus. They are so light, comfy and sexy. I wear them for everything but they are particularly great for conquering hills on a trail. I will not abandon Merrell but New Balance will give them a run for their money every time I need a new shoe from now on.

Most Comfortable Ever
I bought these for my wife after I bought and loved a pair. It's the dead of winter so we havn't been running outside, but our gym has an indoor track. We've run the track and treadmill and the shoes are great. Today, she decided to try them at her aerobic WERQ dance class and they were better than her dance shoes. Can't wait for spring to try them outside!
My 3rd pair! I love these shoes
I wear these mostly in the gym but also to run. They are so comfortable and lightweight, it's almost like not wearing shoes. I have semi-high arches and low ankles and these shoes support and fit like a dream. Since purchasing my first pair about a year ago, I refuse to wear any other shoes. They make your legs, feet, and arches stronger naturally. Once you try them, you will be hooked.
This is about the 6th pair of these I've gotten. Since they are minimalist, I do go through them quicker than a heavier shoe, but for me, it's totally worth it. I wear them for road running, trail running and for CrossFit. I've run 5k - 13.1 on road with them and a 50k trail run. I couldn't have asked for a better shoe.
Wanted a wide shoe with great traction for lifting and gym workouts. Great shoe for just that. Love the widder toe box and the shoe actually offers some nice arch support. Love the traction the shoe offers. Very lightweight. Overall great shoe, great fit and great look.
running into the wind
A must, must try!!!
The moment I put these on, I felt like someone had taken a mold of my feet and made custom fit shoes... Even though they say, that you need to 'ease' into new shoes.., I put these on the second I got out of the store and went for a small run. Was amazed at how easy they felt on my feet!!

Great on the trails!
I had to modify the laces to fit my feet and the structural dysfunctions. Easily done and the shoe was very comfortable on the trail. I've had problems with a few other shoes likes this but this one wore like a slipper!
Love this shoe!
have the road version of this and love it. Use this for my trail runs and have used it on most terrain hough nothing really rugged yet.
Cute & Comfortable
I've gotten tons of compliments on these shoes -- they are really cute!! Great for walking and everyday wear.

Fits like a slipper! I could wear this shoe all day!
