Great improvements over the last few Pegasus models. Totally different with less shoe and introduction of the Nike Air Zoom technology.
First off the construction of the shoe is excellent. Fused overlays (much lighter) with no stitching makes it much lighter and better looking. The upper on the forefoot has a very stretchy mesh much like the Nike Flyknit that makes the toebox fit snuggly, but still stretches where toes do not feel cramped. Midfoot upper has a very supportive but not stiff overlay that just hugs the foot. Heel upper has a very firm heel cup that is very supportive.
The cushioning of the Pegasus 31 is much different than on previous models. They lessened the amount of cushioning and added the Air Zoom cushioning on the heel strike. This makes the shoe very responsive without feeling too squishy or mushy but that is very subjective. Also, heel to toe drop is much less than previous models at 10mm which is better. The footprint of the sole is wide which is great because you feel very solid when you strike the ground. Some shoe manufacturers make the footprint of the sole that is much too narrow and it feels too easy to roll an ankle and just not solid on the strike. The shoe is lower to the ground, however, provides ample cushioning. The shoe feels pretty light. The Pegasus 31 looks really good and gets the much improved award for appearance from the Pegasus 30 models.
This is like the Swiss Army knife of running shoes. It has plenty of cushioning for long runs, yet the design also allows them to be still good for speed work. The shoe is designed more for slight overpronators as the heel cushioning is slightly firmer on the inside of the heel as opposed to softer on outside of the heel. They are great to run in and you forget them very quickly. Just comfortable on the feet and Air Zoom cushioning is just great. They really should use the Air Zoom technology on all their running shoes.
The only improvements that I would like to see is a model that favored the underpronators (supination) runners with firmer cushioning on outside of heel. Also, I would like to see a bit more cushioning in the forefront making the heel toe drop slightly less. However, those are minute gripes. I gave it 4 stars because I haven't had much time on the shoe and don't know the longevity of it, but it is the best Pegasus model Nike has made yet and best shoe I have run in for a while. I will most likely have to buy another pair for storage because we all know how difficult it is to find a great shoe that fits your style of running.

This is a brilliant shoe. I couldn't have asked for something better. Unusually for this "round" of shoes this is my third attempt at finding one. It's a very fitted shoe so if you like a roomy overly sloppy toe-box this is not your shoe. If you like a perfectly fitted shoe, with not sloppy movement-this is what you want. I feel as if it's an extension of me rather than an annoyance I have to deal with.
My previous was a LunarEclipse 3+ Sheild-I really should not have been a shoe so supportive. This is one one criticism with Shoe Dog-it shoves everyone seemingly into a supportive shoe (many people also run differently on a treadmill than outdoors). Regardless, I have a high to normal arch, slight underpronation, and all around mid-foot strike. For that, this shoe is perfect!
Cusion: Zoom is only in the rear half, not exactly in the "heel" as others. Quite nice-I don't miss not having it in the front (even if I'm a mid-foot striker). It's actually still quite "Cush" in the mid-foot area!
All around great shoe from Nike-gives me a very solid, smooth, run. Makes me want to run more!
Only warning: The Nike Pegasus 31 does follow their recent trend of narrower than "normally" slightly wider fitting Nike shoes. For my not-narrow but narrower european sized 9 feet, it's perfect. Keep that in mind.
Good but not as good as the 30
I like the 32 version of the Pegasus but it is not as good as the 30 version. The 30 version was probably one of the best running shoes I have ever had. I loved how it felt when I ran in them. I read Nike made some adjustments to the cushion and sole for the Pegasus 32. The shoe feels a bit more stiff and my knees hurt a little after the run. The heel to toe transition is not as good as the 30 version. Finally, the 30 version was such a good looking shoe. I received so many compliments on my California edition. I hope Nike will consider going back to the Pegasus 30 for the cushion and sole, but I still like this shoe a lot.
Pegasus 31 - Never Thought id wear Nike
I use it on runs, any gym trip and my occasional 8-9 mile runs. They are lite weight which i like, after a few miles I dont need extra weigth to be carrying. I am a average guy , not a avid sportster. I hate nike - never thought id wear it but when i went into roadrunners i tried multiple brands even my fav asics. But I have had some foot issues so I had to go with comfort and it just felt perfect. Also got the customize insole. Il say say this, I like like blue or nike - but I got the blue nike shoe - when running got to go with what feels right.
Overall I was disappointed in this model. In fact this is the first shoe I have ever sent back under the 90 day guarantee. I was excited to try the 31 as I had much success with the 29. To me this shoe has less cushion and is a stiffer/rougher ride than the models before it. Also seems a bit smaller through the toe box. Best summed up is that for me it was uncomfortable. Seems like once I find a Nike I like they change it up and it no longer works. Had the same issues with the Vomero a few years back.
Best shoe for $100!
I've had the 29 and 30 models of the Pegasus. I loved the 30 but this is possibly even better. Nike has improved every minor flaw of the 30. The 31 is less squishy and more responsive. The heel to toe drop is better. The upper is more breathable and the heel collar isn't as bulky. Style wise they look better too. These are going to be my work horse trainers this summer. I think this shoe would work for any surface or speed. It's that good.
"Best bang for the buck shoe"
This is a great shoe at any price, yet alone for under $100. I have not run in nike for a long time, but thought I would try both the Vomero and Pegasus again after several years of running in only asics. I still love my asics nimbus, but I would have to say, the pegasus 31 is a very close second. The toe box in this shoe is wide enough for orthodics. The shoe is firm, yet has enough cushion for long runs over.

Glad I went back to these
I use these for marathon training- I actually just bought a second pair of the Pegasus 31 "flash" to be better seen in the dark. I wore them years ago for high school cross country training and since used a number of different shoes. They are lightweight, and comfortable. I don't like the styling of ones I bought (which I bought since they were the cheapest), but there are some good colorway options.
Top notch shoes
This shoe is designed very well and fits comfortably around your foot with every step. I personally use them in the gym and for running outdoors. Love the color scheme and have received many complements from fellow runners and gym rats. Overall I would purchase these again for the performance and comfort aspects of the shoe.
Great everyday trainer
These are awesome shoes. The only negative is the change of the amount of cushioning under the forefoot. However, after getting used to this, it is almost like a more responsive shoe and you don't notice it too much.
I think these are great shoes for those trying to train for a longer distance or just running for fun.
60 year old triathlete and ultra runner. Went through the whole range of shoes in my 30 years from Nike to minimal and low heal. Found my running was suffering and decided to go back to my start - Nike Pegasus - why did I ever leave and try to change my running. This is a great shoe at a great price! Good for tempo and distance.
Best Revision Yet
Have run in almost all versions of the Pegasus' and this one is probably the best. Extremely comfortable and cushioned without being overly soft. Alternate my shoes every day, but find myself wanting to run in these all the time. Upper is definitely an improvement - more sock like. Great update!!
the old runner
I've been very happy with this shoe. I made a switch from Brooks Ghost 6s to the Pegasus. I have put a few hundred miles on the shoes and it is breaking in nicely. It is a well constructed shoe that is light and durable. I am looking forward to many more miles in this shoe.
Perfect for Putting in the Miles
Purchased these as an additional pair of cross country running shoes for my high school son to train in. He also uses Saucony Hurricanes but likes to change it up. He thinks these shoes are great for shorter mile days (7-8) and speed work. They seem to last well approximately 400 - 500 miles.
Solid Neutral Running Shoe
I have the Pegasus 29 and 30, I run about 20 Miles per week. The updated 31 is Good but I like the 30 better.Bought the 31's for a Half in Oct.the 29's -30's should be toast by then. They feel a little bigger than the 30's. I've run about 450 miles this year mostly pavement. 5'11" 200 lb.
I like this shoe
The Zoom 31's are less padded than the old reliable models and a little stiffer. I was worried that the padding would be insufficient because I have a pad injury, but they are great and feel lighter. I've had them for a couple of weeks and I like them.
Best store ever.
Road Runner stores are the best thing ever and they have a client for life. I have drasticaly different size feet and they are the first store that would sell me two different sizes for the price of one. Thank-you and I will be buying many more pair.
I run 30 plus miles per week in size 8 2E and have been an avid Pegasus wearer for years. This shoe is narrower than the +30, particularly in the toe box where the shoe tapers more from the outside ball of the foot to the front. The sole is firmer as well.
Saranac Lake, NY
Switched from the Zoom Elite
Bought this to replace the Zoom Elite 6, instead of buying the Zoom Elite 7 with the lower heel drop. The Pegasus 31 dropped the heel 2mm as well and feels very similar to the 6's. Good shoe. I will buy another pair.
good for the long run
Haven't missed a day in 15 years, 4 over the 30 prior years. these are good shoes I've gone through several generations and they are worth staying with, as they say 'for the long run' :)
Great support for my first race in years
The shoes feel great when I am running and were great when I ran a race last week. They are a little more confining than my older Nike Air Pegasus +29 or 30. Otherwise, they were great to run in.
Heats up on long runs
Used this for a half marathon and the sole heats up around mile 3. Otherwise looks very nice and comfortable. I had to get two sizes longer and Extra wide.
Lighter & less heel
Compared to the Pegasus 30, the heel feels slightly less tall and not as bulky. Even in size 13 the shoe feels lightweight. Still as comfortable as ever.
Keeps getting better!
I am a loyal Pegasus user. The reason is because they keep getting better with each new model. Extremely comfortable high mileage shoe.
Pine Ridge, FL
Lightweight and comfortable. I have about 40 miles on them so far and I love them. My feet and legs feel good after 6-7 mile runs. I def recommend.
Nike Pegasus 31
Love these shoes. It's a throwback to when I was a serious runner (100mi/wk). I own 3 pair, and alternate them, so they last longer.
So far so good
So far so good. The zoom Pegasus 31's have been a good running should shoe so far for the limited mileage I've on them.
My new favorite Pegasus!
I ran the '89 NYC Marathon in "Pegs" and have stayed with the model for the past 25 years. I am really enjoying this "31"!
New York City
Cushioning and good arch support... good all-around running shoe. This newer model fits narrower than the Pegasus 30.
San Tan Valley, AZ
I love this shoe
I use this product for cross country training and to have something comfortable to walk in.
