I love trail running, I averaged about 50 miles a week on trails, until I could not run long distances due to knee injuries. I came down to an agonizing 5 miles a week, I almost gave up running. Then I jumped on the natural form running wagon, landing on my forefoot. I was a heel striker. But I still used my regular trail shoes, Brooks Adrenaline ASR 7 and Cascadia 5, great shoes for heel strikers. Then my toes started to hurt due to my new forefoot running form.
Running shoes and running form must match. So I bought Newton Momentum, best trail shoes I owned to date. Why? because it matches and encourages my forefoot running form, not like most shoes out there.

Great Trail Runner's Shoe
My runs start on pavement and move to trail within 1 mile, generally 4 miles of my 6 mile runs are done on stoney single track, or dirt roads or packed gravel.
These Newtons provide more heal support than typical running shoes, and they are pretty light, each shoe weighs in at 12.6 ounces.
If you are used to the other Netwon shoes, these are basically the same in that they are .5 to one full size small. I typically wear a 10 or 10.5, and in these Newtons and in the Gravitas, I wear an 11.
The action/reaction lugs on the trail running shoes feel pretty solid but they are also more sturdy and as a result I feel comfortable walking around in these shoes too.
That is not something I can say for the Gravitas, those are also a Newton shoe and the action/reaction lugs in the front are very flexible and not suited for general walking or for uneven terrain (I even tore a lug once on a trail). There is no risk of tearing the lugs on these Trail runners.
I absolutely love them for off road running.

Good all weather shoe
Nice variation on the original Newton Racer. Fit is about a 1/2 size small, and the toe box feels less roomy than the Distance racer. Nice firm ride in the forefoot allows for good foot proprioception which is integral to a more natural running form. Great shoe for mixed terrain, trails, even roads. I use it for wet weather on roads, and imagine it would be a good winter shoe for those in colder climates. Love the bold and bright colors. Another nice thing about this model is that it is the lowest priced of all the Newton shoes (despite it being the most sturdily built). The only down side is that it is quite heavier than the Racers or Gravity trainers, however, they are lighter than most of the mainstream trail runners on the market.

promote forefoot (trail) running
I adopted Newton running shoes back on 08 but this is my first pair of trail runners. I really like how these feel both on trail and in sloppy conditions on road. They seem to run a little tight in the forefoot for me vs my on-road pair but not so much that I need a different size. They are light weight, look great (IMHO) and are now my go to shoe when it is miserable outside or I'm running on trail or mixed terrain. pricey.
I'm 190 lbs, 6'4" and run 15-30 miles per week and have migrated to more forefoot striking over the last 3 years.

Not Just For Trails - All Weather Too
I had to return the first pair I ordered for a half size smaller. I have a different pair of Newtons that I needed the half size larger. Just be aware - not sure if it was me or the shoes. Love these & Love Newtons - these will be my winter running shoes - I got these instead of the AW ones on the recommendation from a Newton Rep. due to the snowy - winter weather in NY State. I think they will fit the bill and take me into Spring!

Bought these for my Husband. He already owns a pair of Newton's which he loves. He was wanting something to keep his feet warm and dry in the cold and wet Germany weather. He LOVES his new shoes. Would definitely recommend them to anyone. He does a lot of road running but also loves the trails here in Germany and the shoes do great on both. He calls them his HULK Shoes!
Great winter shoe from Newton!
Great shoe - especially if you're a NEWTON freak and needed a shoe for winter! Great shoe - a little stiff/more rigid than their trainers and def. their racers. However, if you're in colder climates, the regular trainers or races were difficult even with wool socks on for warmth! Great deal for the shoe - worth the purchase.

great shoe - would recommend highly
a good shoe to join the high-turn-over, mid-fore-foot stride gang. previous shoe: adidas supernova sequence2. was a heel-striker, but hip and knee pain caused me to change stride/gait to mid-fore foot landing. it's a lot more work, but i have little to no hip/knee pain now.

Fantastic Trail Shoe
Avid Newton runner, 1st trail shoe - what a winner. The road shoes are something else, but these are fantastic. The shoe is mildly different in form from the road running shoes, but I think it promoted my forefoot running even more.
Great Winter Shoe
These are my second pair of Newtons. Great transition to the winter months. Looking forward to some up coming winter trail running. I've been wearing the Sir Issacs for a few months now and have liked the move to mid foot running.
A little short in length but usable, next size would have been too big. Comfortable and I did not have any discomfort with the design change. Seems like a winner and can't wait to break outdoors and put more miles on them.
Quite possibly one the ugliest shoes on the market, but arguably one of the better as well. If you like Newtons, these stay true to what you expect from them. Great cushioning and ride. Great shoe..
A shoe that does not disappoint
Great product, holds true to the newton fit and mid foot running style. Great looking shoe and very comfortable on long runs. If you mainly run groomed trail paths with nothing to intense this shoe will do great. Anything to rocky or uneven you may want another trail shoe for better stability and movement.

"Looking forward to the trails"
Needed a Newton for the winter and this shoe fits the bill. Feet stay warm and protected even in single digit wind chills. Fit seems true to size.
I want to give them a chance
I'm a big fan of Newtons, and I really want to give these a chance. I've been through a couple pairs of the Newton Distance road shoes and was excited about trying the Momentum trail shoe. The first pair was 1/2 size too small (even compared to my other Newton's) and I had to exchange them, not a big deal. Wore them around the house, at work and for a few short road runs, then I probably over did it, with a 15 mile 2500ft vert trail run. Felt good during the run, but aggravated my PF big time, which I haven't had probs with in over a year. It may be more of an insole issue, so I'm experimenting. Definitely very comfortable out of the box, more so than the Distance, and looks like they'll hold up well. Not as aggressive traction as most trail shoes. Lots of comments on the colors.

I want to transition from heel striker (ouch!!!!) to mid-foot striker and it was suggested to me by RRS online (I think it was Adam) that Newton Momentum is the perfect shoes that would meet my need...and yes, they were! I love my Newtons Momentum Shoes....I could tell the difference now on how I run....I shaved off more than 2 min ever since I got the shoes.
Here's the result:
Before Newton: 7/31/13 6.06 mi 1h:09m:11s 11:25 min/mi
2nd week on Newton 8/15/13 6.15 mi 1h:03m:24s 10:18 min/mi
3rd week on Newton 8/20/13 6.16 mi 59m:10s 9:36 min/mi
Day of the race event 8/24/13 10k 55m:59s 9:01 min.mi

this is not a trail shoe
Proably one of the most comfortable running shoes I have had on.They are great on roads but keep them off the trails. If you run on a trail that is just the least little bit technical ,watch out! the shoe is just not stable or lacks enough traction to handle the abuse that trails
present. I almost had to quit running because I was afraid I was going to brake a ankle. wish i could return them.
This is my third pair of Newton Momentums. They are a great shoe for trail or street running (as long as you are not running technical trails). These are the best all-around shoes that I have ever had. I highly recommend them if you are wanting to transition to a midfoot/forefoot strike.
Extraordinary shoe for efficient runners
I use this shoes to go for long runs on trails though is excellent for mixed terrain. My feet feel protected at all times. One of the best attributes is the quality and durability of the materials, to me this is critical since I put a tons of miles on the equipment I use.
What do Big Feet and Big hands mean?
I wear mechanical orthodics so I need a shoe that is 1 1/2 sizes larger than my normal size to accommodate the orthodic. The shoe is also deep so I don't lose lateral stability with the orthodic as a foot bed. I love this shoe.
Newton on the trail!
Am adding more trail running and have run in Newtons for the last two years. I believe the minimalist and forefoot strike have helped me reduce injuries.

Neat product. I'll see about the technology as I wear them out.
