Men's NEWTON® RUNNING MV2 :: Speed up your natural running experience with excellent protection against the wear and tear of hard surfaces. Get optimal quickness and sensitivity when you put your foot level with the ground in the incredibly lightweight men's Newton® Running MV2. Feet will stay dry and slip-free thanks to quick drying mesh and anti-friction sock liner. But you'll really feel like a naturalist thanks to ample recycled features including the laces, webbing, insole topcover and outsole rubber. Even the package is recycled! 5.9 ounces
The new Newton shoe is a neutral performance shoe weighing in at 5.9 oz. and a zero heel-to-toe drop. I would highly recommend it for mid-foot strikers who currently run in a 4 (approximately) mm drop but want move to a zero drop. If you are a heel striker, or you've never run in a low drop, I would not recommend it.
Drop
It is a zero drop, and they give you pads to put in the heel if you want a 3mm drop. I am used to the previous shoes with a drop, but I wouldn't put the pads in, they look cheap and may last 2 weeks.
Lugs
The lugs are different than the previous Newtons. You have 5 instead of 4 lugs, and they are shorter and harder. Certainly a different feel than the previous and take getting used to. Stepping on iron rain grates is a major hazard.
Upper
Upper is light and very breathable. Very nice and comfortable.
Weight and Sizing
The shoe weighs in at 5.9 oz. for a size 9 men's. If you are a previous Newton shoe wearer and getting these for racing and like a snug fit, then your current size will work well. If you want these for everyday or like a slightly looser fit, go for an additional half size up from your previous Newton size.
Who will like these best
If you are a heel striker, then I would NOT recommend these shoes. If you have already run in a low drop and you are moving towards zero drop and a mid foot striker, I think these will be the shoes of choice (with a break in period). If you are a heel striker and moving towards mid foot, the Kinvara 2 or the other Newtons would be better for you. Adjusting to a zero drop takes time and I would suggest, for most, dropping gradually.
I am a 5" 9" 170 lbs runner. I run about 25-30 miles a week.
Hope that helps you!

I disagree with the comments about the MV2 not being suitable for anything but short distances. It largely depends on your form and what you have trained your body to do. I am a fairly experienced marathoner (14 of them), and with the caveat that you are used to lighter weight shoes for distance, the MV2 is an ideal marathon shoe! I took several years to transition into a mid foot/forefoot strike and natural running form. I found out a long time ago that ground feel and perception are far more important than cushioning and "support". The MV2 gives me a virtually ideal combination of light weight with just a little structure, and good proprioception. The lugs provide some "queuing" for slight form adjustments when necessary, and it took only a few minutes the first time I wore the shoe to adjust to them. Of the seemingly countless trainers and racers I have worn over the past 12 years, the MV2 is the best. That said, however, it isn't perfect. I would love to see Newton widen the toe box a bit and shorten the shoe to provide a more true to size fit. And if they could just shave another ounce or so off the total weight....

This is my 5th pair of Newtons and I had high expectations from their latest offering. At first inspection I immediately noticed how light the shoes were and the quality of construction typical of Newtons. The shoes came with heel inserts to adjust to the racing flat feel which is a nice touch. I took them out today for a 5K race and enjoyed every step in them. I usually do short races in the Distance model, but this will be my new weapon of choice due to the snug fit and minimal weight. There is just enough lug on the bottom to guide every footstep into the 'Land-Lever-Lift' that Newtons are famous for. A highly recommended speed shoe!

MV2 Review

I normally run in Motions or Distance S but after running in the MV2 I found that although these shoes have a race tuned midsole they are every bit as comfortable as the Motions and Distance S. These shoes have really done wonders on improving my running form. These shoes make me a better runner and can be used at almost any distance. Make sure to take it slow when adjusting to the shoes. Like the other Newtons, these shoes place less stress on the joints and more on the muscles. Soreness is normal for the adjustment period. And one more thing, these shoes are FAST!

Size is wayyyy too small
1
I fit a size 11 in Nike, Brooks, INOV-8, Adidas and even Newton's Motion and Distance. I ordered the MV2 is size 11: way too small - blisters on both feet before 5 km. I upsized to a size 11.5 and even these were far too small - blisters on feet after 8 km. So I am done with this model shoe. No way should I have to go up 1 to 1.5 sizes to get a fit in the toebox (and then it won't fit in other places ...). So no "PRO" features in this shoe if it cannot even fit properly.

Really "just ok"...

Just ran a half marathon in them this morning and clearly, while they are fast and super light, the trade off is comfort. I would not run anything over a 10k with them in the future but still decided to keep them for shorter races. Considering this is a short distance racer shoe I think the price is high but looks are stellar. Not a great buy but an okay one.

Awesome. Bang. Love them

Great light racing shoe. I also use them for interval work. The only con is probably on me. I'm in the habit of pulling on my shoes instead of untying them, as I generally wear shoes loose. That has resulted in tearing around the top of the shoe around the ankle. Again. That's on me.
