Hello better?? I'm new to Newtons. I've run over 12 half marathons and two full marathons. For years I've struggled with knee pain and recovered from a slightly torn meniscus a year and a half ago. Feeling like I needed more stability I wore the typical highly cushioned stability shoes with higher heel drop. On a whim I decided to try something new when I figured out that I was more of a mild pronator . Curious about the bright colors, the protruding lugs in the forefoot, and natural Running as a whole I bought these babies. I really took my time transitioning to them and alternated between my other shoes and these newtons. There are great videos online of how to transition to newtons. Wow! These shoes have been comfortable and I have miraculously cured my knee pain! I still have yet to do more than 6 miles in them and go on a long run in them but I feel a big difference. I feel pain in my asics but none into newtons. They are light, fast, and breathable. I wish there were more colors or I'd buy them all. I use superfeet orthotic in them because I have high arches but the shoes work well with the orthotic. You will not be dissapointed. I love these!
No more pain!
I am new to Newton Running and I switched after running for 3 years in Brooks Running shoes. Out of those 3 years, I ran 2 1/2 years in pain or took NSAIDS to alleviate the pain during racing. It wasn't until someone in my running group told me they had the same issues that I had and it was cured by switching to a minimalist shoe. Another friend said that Newton's changed their running game completely. I tried Newton's last year and went with the Lady Isaac S and wasn't thrilled with them. This time, I chose a less traditional looking running shoe. I went with the Motion III's.
I followed the Newton transitioning plan but when I finished my mileage in my Brooks, I was in extreme pain. I hurt so bad that I wanted to cry. There were some days where I just stopped mid way through and walked home to ice my shins. After 3 weeks of this, I finally called Newton Running and spoke to a coach. They told me that if I experienced no pain while running in the Newton's but experienced it when going back to my old shoe, my body was adapting faster than most, which was OK. They advised me to completely retire my Brooks and focus on increasing my mileage in the Newton's.
I just ran my first half marathon in the Motion III's and couldn't have been more pleased. This was my first race where I did not experience pain in my shins, knees, ankles or hips. I do wear a cushioned insert with this shoe. I plan on using the Motion 3's for my long runs and the Distance III S for my weekly short runs.
The only con that I have for this shoe is the tongue of the shoe. It is not secure or fastened on the sides which means it rubs against the top of my foot causing blisters or friction marks. I hope Newton will update this with their future models. For now, I put KT tape on top of my feet to avoid this!
So long, "Better"
I was so thrilled with my first pair and was one of the first to "hit the scene" in the hideous, 80's day glow orange, running sneaker but it felt so awesome and my time had slightly improved so I forged on with operation "suck it up, buttercup".
only other gripe (at that time) was how quickly they wore down. @ 240 miles, the lugs had flattened quite a bit. Thought this was because I was a "changed runner" )
4 pair later, the price finally got to me.The latest Motion IIIs will be my last pair of Newtons. I contacted the company in Boulder and discussed how short lived their shoes are. They agreed that although they do tend to wear down quicker than most shoes (Kudos for the honesty) that it may also be how I'm running. I can dig that answer but for $200 bucks a pop, I should be able to run on my shoelaces pulling a mac truck. Going back to the Asics or maybe trying Brooks. C'est la vie.
The lugs aren't the same!
I really wanted to like these shoes. They are lightweight and nice colors. The new lugs, vs previous shoes, were not better. I thought 5 lugs instead of four, would spread out the pressure. They might, but they really hurt, especially on long runs. Additionally the left shoe and the right shoe had the lugs in different spots in the shoes....problems with quality control? They were also expensive. I'm really disappointed.
Same Newton Performance
This is my 4th Newton pair. The previous 4 logs felt a little higher than the 5th log concept, so you should feel "closer to the ground" on these shoes. I use inserts, and the first time I ran in this pair I forgot to put them in so my foot felt the difference but that's neither here nor there on the Newton. I've done 2 long runs on these shoes and so far so good! #HelloBetter
Love this shoe!
I've run in other brands for years and dealt with injuries/pain re-occurring over and over. Since I switched to these shoes last summer I haven't had any injuries. Running feels great! The other bonus is that these last a lot longer than other brands. My only complaint is that I feel like the traction is questionable on wet or snowy roads. However, being pain free far outweighs that.
Love to Run
Lost that Pop!
The soles on these 5 lug shoes are so mushy, they have lost their Pop! The "pop" should be a springy stiffness through the roll-out; Newton lovers- you know what I mean. Although these are supposed to be "support" shoes, they ride like marshmallows-slow and mushy after a few miles. On the plus side-the uppers are very light weight with no hot spots. From now on- only old school four lug Newtons for me!

I have run in the Newton Motions for about 2 years. The 5 lugs in the Motion III is a huge improvement in this shoe. The Newton Motion III is my go-to shoe for any type of run from an easy run to speed work or racing. Love the 5 lugs!
Newton Motion III
I have run in Newton Motions for ~2yrs. The 5 lugs are a big improvement over the previous 4 lugs. These are definitely my go-to shoes for any road running or racing. Love the 5-lugged Motion III.
I switched from the Saucony Kinvara's to these and omg! Increased my comfort during my long runs! I now alternate between these and the gravity's!
