I'm a triathlete and ultra runner. When I do ultras, I've always just worn tri shorts to avoid chafing between my thighs. Enter these shorts! I bought a pair 2 days before my last ultra and tried them on one run before the actual race. Loved 'em!
I wore them in the race itself and they were perfect. I never had to think about them. The inner compression short kept any thigh chafing at bay while the loose outer short allowed plenty of airflow (it was in the low '90's that day!). The pockets on the side were perfect for my spent gel packets.
I think a zip pocket somewhere on the back would be the only improvement I could suggest.

These shorts have all the answers!
I highly recommend these shorts for anything from running/racing to gym workouts and high impact aerobics. I have a tendency to chafe during extended periods of any of these activities, requiring glide or substitute applications to the obvious areas. These shorts have eliminated that need for up to 6 mile runs(thus far), hour-long cybex workouts and hour-long high impact aerobics(recently a 3 hour combined session). They fit great, allow freedom of movement and the compression-fit liner makes the big difference! They also look great, dry relatively fast and have treated me better than any other style short that I've used in over 20 years of running etc. Finally I'd like to state that obtaining them through RRS and our VIP membership was easy, fast and convenient with sincere courtesy received from order[...]. A no-brainer purchase!
My husband won't wear anything else!
My husband started running in these shorts years ago and now won't use anything else. Every morning he runs, goes to the gym, and swims in these multi-use shorts. I've lost count of how many pairs he has used throughout the years. They are extremely durable considering the abuse and exposure to chlorine they withstand. We machine wash and line dry and they are just like my husband . . . the energizer bunny . . . they just keep going and going!

Best short I have purchased!
I have owned a number of running/workout shorts and usually they are not as interchangeable as I would like. This short trumps them all. It is great for lifting weights and then running. It has pockets on the side, a hidden key pocket and drawstring. The inner compression short is key and is quite comfortable. I will likely only buy these shorts from now on unless something better comes along.
I love the compression shorts that are built in! The only thing I'd change is the elastic in the waist vs the drawstring. I couldn't wear these for a long race where I might have to go to the bathroom...the drawstring & compression shorts would slow me down a lot. But for shorter races or training runs these are seriously comfortable shorts. These are the only shorts I'll wear that have a liner.
Warner Robins, GA
I purchased these while recovering from a groin injury - my first time to use compression shorts. The fit is good - have used for both fitness training and running up to 8 miles. The breathable mesh panel in the crotch of the liner is an excellent touch. The only flaw is the absence of a zipper pocket on the rump.
Good, but not great
I've had these for several months now and run in them once a week. I also have the similar Nike product and wear them once a week. Compared to the Nike these have a heavier, stronger compression lining; are warmer; and I suspect are more durable. That said the Nike are my favorite shorts and these aren't. The Nike liner is cut for men, these don't seem to be. They are really too tight through the center and have a tendency to ride down plumber-style in the back. They are the first running shorts I've ever had to tie at the waist. Will I continue to use them? Yes. Would I buy them again? No. The Nike are well worth the extra money.

My third pair
I'm a woman and love these shorts. I like the longer length since I'm just now getting back into shape. The waist is a little low, but the drawstring takes care of that problem. This is my third pair...started with a large, then a medium and now a small as I've continued to lose weight. All are very comfortable and my favorite running shorts.

Can't be beat, and I've tried
I love these shorts, I'm not a big runner but hit the gym every day. You can't beat the support they offer, great on leg day. I do wish they had a little wider waist band, I have a pair from last year and they were wider and fit better, who screwed up ?
Smaller than they used to be
Worn this short comfortably for the last 6 years in size L. With the same waist size, the latest two size L shorts I ordered were tighter than I was used to. The good news is that Roadrunner exchanged them for size XL and they feel like the old size L.
These are great running shorts with a compression underneath. If you live in a cold weather state, they are great to wear when its too warm for running tights but too cool for just running shorts. A very durable product to last through many runs and washes. I would buy it again.

In between days
Having had no understanding the feel of a compression short on a long run, I can say this was a poor purchase for the hot humid summers of this midwest river town. However, on the colder days of fall and spring, these shorts will be perfect. A great transitional weather short.

Best running short ever
I don't like running shorts with built in mesh liners since they seem to chafe on long runs. These shorts have a built in liner made of a soft material like a pair of soft shorts which do not chafe yet keep everything secure. These are my top running shorts. I can run for hours in these shorts with no problem. Best ones on the market. The inside liner runs a little small but not really a size down.
Great pair of shorts. Great concept.
Great concept. The compression underlining helps a lot. The underlining could be a little longer; that is my only gripe with the shorts. But it does not hike up all the time or anything, so not a big deal. Getting more soon.

Great for the cooler weather
Bought these for my husband to use in the cooler weather. He loved them during the run. He did not like that the deep pockets lie right in front of the legs so stuff in the pockets get in the way during the run.

Great for cooler weather
My experience with previous 2-in-1 shorts is that the outer short tends to ride up in embarassing ways! I do not have that problem with these shorts and they are very comfortable. The pocket is also useful for keys.
Long Island, New York
Great, all-around short
I have 5 or 6 pairs and love them. The only thing that would make them better would be to incorporate a small, zippered pocket in the back (similar to RoadRunner Sports' other styles).

Not a fan.
I started running about a year ago as a supplement to cycling. I run a couple times a week, usually around 5k.
Let me preface this by noting that I'm a big guy (that's a euphemism for fat). Not as fat as I used to be, but still have a way to go to reach my fitness goals. Because of that, traditional running shorts have never worked for me - they ride up and I have to adjust them constantly. Nothing breaks your rhythm like your shorts creeping up your crotch. The only thing that works for me is a boxer jock and normal workout shorts - although the workout shorts, fine for the gym, are a little long for running for my taste.
So when I found these, I thought they might be the answer. Not too long, not too short and compression liner instead of the briefs. I was wrong, very wrong. They ride up worse than anything. The liner is made of a grippy fabric that pulls them straight up into the nether after about five strides. They also don't keep things in place as well as a boxer jock, and sit a little low in the back.
Please, RR, if you're going to sell XL and XXL shorts, please have people that wear that size test them out. There's more to making things work for bigger people than just increasing the dimensions.
Meanwhile, my search for running shorts without a liner continues.
Orange County, Calif.
Just the right length
Finally don't look like a dork with too short of a short! Pocket holds my iPhone (used for iTunes) nicely. Compression short is nice, but sometimes rides up causing chaffing. A quick pull down solves the problem. Coming back to buy another color.
Great running shorts
I run and walk in these shorts. These shorts fit as expected, they are light, the material feels great, and they breathe well. I highly recommend them.
Little Rock, AR
so far so good!
love the feel of the compression short but the look of a running short. the compression short helps with the longer runs in regards to the mental security of knowing there is addtional support for the hamstrings and guads.
Oklahoma City, OK
MP3 pocket needs to be longer
My only real problem with these shorts is that the MP3 player pocket can barely hold an older iPod Nano. A new Nano should fit without a problem, but the older models fit very tightly and you have to really bend the headphone wire which will probably cause it to malfunction over time. This pretty much renders the pocket useless for me.
Best workout shorts
Everyday wear in my line of work (Personal Fitness Trainer) these shorts are perfect for anyone who requires support for almost any athletic endeavor.
I like these shorts a lot. They are good for inside the gym, or running on the road. Comforable and supportive. My only issue is the tie cord is too short and I'm concerned it will get lost in the shorts.
Great shorts for big guys with big legs!
If you have big thighs some shorts "ride up" all to easy. These shorts eliminate the need to tug your shorts back down while running thanks to the comfortable compression shorts underneath.
Great product, Great price!!!
I run at least 3 days a week, these are my favorite shorts, love the key pocket, really like the support that i receive from the inner short.
JD the college student
These are a good length and are very comfortable with the inner compression short. They fit snug, but seem to be true to size. I find them to be very comfortable to run in.
not what they used to be
I agree with one of the other reviews...the liner is cut weird. It is almost as if the liner was cut out of two "fronts" and doesn't give enough room in the seat, resulting in plumber's crack (no offense intended). I have had these shorts in the past (purchased about 1.5 years ago) and did not have the same problem--have had a total of 5 pairs over the years--the two recent have had these problems.
The second issue I have with the liner is the interior pocket. The pocket (very small piece of material, about 2"x2") is basically sewn into the liner rather than something similar to a flap. With the flap, you could flip it out of the shorts and take our your goods, in my case eye drops. With the present pocket setup sewn directly onto the liner, you basically have to flip your entire shorts down to get stuff out of the pocket--especially since the pocket is not sewn directly below the waist band but rather a few inches down.
Combine the interior pocket fold down with the plumber's crack and you might as well just run naked--but then no support!
What seems to have been some sort of cost savings through less material and/or sourcing has really degraded the product.
Very solid, versatile pair of shorts
I run a lot and these have been a good summer addition to by gear. I like the compression feel and these shorts dry quickly enough that I can get multiple uses of them when I travel.
2in1 a good idea
Let's you have the support of compression shorts with the ability to store gels, keys,or whatever in the outershorts. Perhaps at least one zippered pocket would be good.

I have an injured hamstring and was told these shorts may help. I have worn them twice and will have to throw them away. Each time I wear them the fall down and I feel like a plumber.
They do not wick well. Don't buy them!

A+ I have two pairs and I am online now to buy another. The compression short at first I did not like but after two wears I now prefer it. They are the only shorts I wear at the gym or any run under 80 degrees (which are most by me), when its hot they are not the best, not very breathable.

I love the inner compression with the lightweight chamois. The quality and fit is excellent.
They are not very breathable, and almost embarrassing to wear when very sweaty. If you get very sweaty in hot weather it shows just as if you were wearing soaked grey sweatpants. They do not wick moisture away very good.
I have the blue and grey colors, maybe black would solve the problem.

Great concept, but as stated in earlier review, the padding in the crotch causes a real problem with chafing. If the pad were not included in the inner short, these would great!

The inner shorts are great. My complaint is that there is a padding in the crotch that can chafe badly during long runs. Overall, great shorts for distances under 1/2 marathon.

Very comfortable and well designed. I've had a previous pair without the front pockets for 5 years, and it's my favorite training short. These feel just as good. I like the feel of the compression shorts, which go to mid-thigh, but are not too snug on the leg or the groin. The outer short seems to wick away the sweat from the torso and keeps you drier, so friction is less of a problem. I prefer a lighter short for race day, but these are unbeatable for training.

These are the best running shorts, everything you need all in 1 pair of shorts. The compression liner is very comfortable, allowing movement while giving just the amount of support. Great inner pocket for your running needs, and larger side pockets. I will be buying more!

Great product. Skip the jock; skip the compression shorts. These running shorts do it all; they're comfortable to wear and have convenient side pockets. My only complaint is that the colors suck - but this is offset by the price, since these are the cheapest in the product category that I've seen anywhere. For this price, and this product, I'll shut up and wear basic black.

*Love* the shorts, but they desperately need a key pocket. The regular pockets on these are too slick to keep one there safely. To be really picky, they could do a front external flat seam (like Nike and Adidas tend to do) for a tad better appearance. Love 'em, but I need my key pocket badly.

These arrived at my door the other day and I tried them on today for the first time. Compared to my old Nike 2-in-1's, which had a brief-style "compression" lining, this is a TRUE compression short lining. Personally, I feel like I'm constricted with compression shorts, but thats just me. Compression, on the other hand, is good for your muscles.
Secondly, these shorts are heavier than my elder Nike's. However, I do like the fabric of which these are made.
4/5 for me!
