Great Minimalist shoe for Supinators

5

This was my first pair of Saucony running shoes. I'd tried them on at my local Dick's sporting goods and loved them but was a bit worried after reading the mixed reviews. When I got them I hit the gym and ran three miles, with a weakend version of pneumonia. I had been running in reeboks and as soon as I started I noticed how low to the ground I was. At 6'1 that's an unusual feeling but a good one. I had total control in this shoe. As someone with high arches, (extremely high) I run on the outsides of my feet and have a problem with rolling outwards. Not once in this shoe did my ankles wobble, let alone roll over. I'm very happy with this shoe, and will likely be ordering it in another color. My only complaint is that the lip on the heel is a bit hard. Not a problem on my right foot which is a bit bigger than my left, but it did blister my left foot slightly. I may have to add heel cushioning, but other than that, I absolutely love them.

big changes

4

I've been running in the Kinvaras since their first version, using them for anything from trail half marathons and 50ks to road marathons, and the 3's are a big change from the previous version. First, they took away all the tread and put it on the new Kinvara TR. Second, they changed the fit of the upper so it's a little sloppier and the heel comes up high (I noticed it when I first put them on, but don't feel it when I run). The footbed is still just as comfortable as the previous versions, but this shoe is definitely only for road. It's a nice everyday trainer or marathon shoe, but with the sloppy fit it doesn't feel fast enough for anything shorter than a half. I might be looking for a different road shoe when my next pair of 3's wear out.

Terrible update

1

Oh, Saucony, what have you done? I adored my three previous pairs of Kinvaras (the 1's and 2's). ADORED them! They were by far the most comfortable running shoes I've ever worn, even on my longest runs (up to a half marathon). Lightweight, comfortable, breathable, plus they were super cute. I ordered a pair of the Kinvara 3s, despite the fact that they don't get as good of reviews, and hoped people were wrong. But nope, this is an absolutely awful update. The shoes are noticably longer and looser in the toe box, the back of the shoe around the achilles been raised and had all cushioning removed, making it horribly stiff and uncomfortable. I couldn't even wear these shoes walking around my living room, they were so uncomfortable. They're going right back, and I'm on the hunt for a new favorite running shoe :-(

LOVE these shoes

5

Well...I've been looking for a replacement for my Nike Skylons which were discontinued. I've tried sooo many different shoes and stumbled upon the Kinvara to try - and I took them out of the box today - ran 6 miles and fell in love. Lightweight, compfortable and lovely. Normally I would never run a race in new shoes, but these babies are coming with me on Saturday as I do a 1/2. I have never run in a shoe which didn't require some glide (bc I don't wear socks) on its first pass. I am now purchasing more....an even better replacement than I could have imagined. :)

Can't wait to buy my next pair of these!

This is a GREAT shoe! I have been a Saucony fan since I started seriously running. I have worn the progrid 4 for many years now. Couldn't get my size in it the last time I was ready to order, so I switched to this pretty little shoe. Very light and airy. (They are a little wider in the toe box then the progrid 4). First day out of the box I ran my stairs workout, next day I ran 8 miles. These shoes did GREAT both days and continue to impress me. Can't wait to get my next pair.

Beautiful but not so great

3

These are very pretty shoes. I am Saucony fan, always wear Saucony shoese and know what size works for me. I was excited to try these light weight shoes. They felt slightly tight when I first put them on and after the first mile of a warmup run, the arch in my foot started feeling strained and sore. Luckily I had another pair of Saucony shoes with me and I changed them out immediately. I still felt a little sore from the mile in these shoes, but I was able to finish my workout with no additional problems. I am shipping these pretty shoes right back!

Great Light Weight Shoe

5

Is it possible to be in love with a running shoe? I think so! The Kinvara 3 is my transition shoe into a lower offset for more natural running. The upper is super comfortable, the heel collar is not at all stiff like other reviewers have stated. There is the perfect amount of cushion and it absorbs impact very well for such a light, low-profile shoe. I put on the shoe and it just disappears on my foot. I think I may be hoarding these in case I don't like the updates they make to the Kinvara 4!

Bring back the original Kinvara

1

This shoe has taken everything that was good about the original Kinvara away. The high back rubs and caused blister the couple of times I tried them. The shoe feels very confining and something about the the mid-part of the shoe design made my arches cramp. I want a shoe that allows my feet to be in their natural position and this shoe did not feel one bit natural or minimal. 3 other local running associates have said the same thing. Sure wish you would bring back the original. This pair is only good for casual use.

Great match for my foot

4

I bought these on recommendation from a friend who suggested them based on that I am a light runner with high arches and tend to have foot pain. So far they are excellent (first ten days, 30 miles). They are so light and fast! I must add I am using a cushiony insole for high arches. Also, I was advised to order a half size up from my normal size and though it is a tad too big in the heel, I think my normal size would have been too small in the toe. I have been able to tie them in a way that keeps them snug on my heel.

Top of heel high & hits Achilles tendon

3

Unfortunately, running flat manufactures change shoes slightly each year, so the kinvara 3 is cut high in the back where as the kinvara 2 was cut low. The 3 happens to touch my Achilles tendon in a painful way because it is cut too high for me. Of course the kinvara 2 is no longer available & now the manufacturer is into kinvara 4, which I haven't tried. I am a race-walker with 16 years devoted to the sport & this is not the first time I've lost my "perfect shoe."

I would buy this product again and again

This is my second pair of Saucony Progrid Kinvara 3's. I love them. They are lightweight yet offer support; I even believe they have made me faster and I have set new PR's! I wore my 1st pair with well over 1,000 miles and just ordered my second pair brand new; I broke them in by running the Nike Women's Half Marathon in DC. Everyone says, you should never wear them in a race right out of the box, I did and had no problems. I highly recommend them!

What did they do?!?

1

Kinvara has been a staple in my rotation for years. They always felt good on shorter runs or recovery runs. Extremely supportive for a lightweight shoe and the flexibility was perfect...until now. This shoe did not retain the awesome properties of the first two versions. It now feels higher & stiff, like running on styrofoam. I don't understand how this shoe can feel so terrible that errands in them are not even possible. These shoes are lovely but a sore disappointment. Will try another brand; sorry Saucony.

Disappointing

2

I don't know what happened. I've been a Saucony loyalist for a long time. Currently I run 65 miles per week, and even on high mileage I wore the Kinvara 1s and 2s religiously. When I got the 3s I couldn't wait to wear them...and then they were a huge disappointment. I don't know what it is about this shoe, but they hurt my legs and are just generally unenjoyable. For the first time in many years I switched brands and now run in Asics Gel-lyte 33s.

Love this shoe

5

I run 10-20 miles week and go to a boot camp class 2 days week. I use these shoes for my bootcamp class and for shorter runs and track work outs. I love these shoes. They are so comfortable and lightweight. They are wide enough in the toe box and do not have a fabric piece to rub on my bunion, yet narrow enough in heel to catch my narrow heel. The 4mm drop allows for easy midfoot strike.

Disappointing Update

1

The Kinvara had been my favorite running shoe since they were introduced. I "ran" through two pairs of Kinvara 1 and then a pair of Kinvara 2. I was excited to try the new Kinvara 3. Part of the update was to raise the back of the heel and it is now very hard. On my first run with them, I limped back to car after a few miles with bloody heels. I had to take a week off as I cannot wear shoes with backs. Looking for an alternative minimal shoe.

Perfect Fit

5

I fell in love with the Kinvara's because of their super light weight feel and still very soft and full of cushion. I was originally afraid there would not be enough support for longer miles, but recently ran a full marathon in SF with them. My feet have never felt that great after a full. I've put about 200 miles on them so far and still love them- they've held up great.

Feel good but wider toe box allows

3

The shoes feel really good when first putting them on, but there seems to be too much room in the toe box as the area puckers when trying to tighten the laces. I don't think I have overly thin feet, but there was enough slippage that I got atrocious blisters that I am still trying to deal with. The colors look great and I received lots of compliments on the look of the shoes.

I love this shoe!

5

I never write reviews but this is a great shoe for me. I workout 4-5 times per week in a boot camp/ environment. I also need orthodics. This shoe hugs my heels and has a good size toe box; it is light and flexible but not sloppy. My orthoics fit without problems. It " breaths" too. I am buying another pair.

Amazing Running Shoes!!

5

I bought these shoes for training and running outdoors. I run on average 20 or more miles per week. They are super light weight, have amazing arch support and cushion around the ankle. I liked them so much, I ordered a second pair for after I wear these out. Just in case they get discontinued!

I have purchase my 4th pair of these. Just love them. Only problem is with the white pairs only they tear out on the sides right where the toes bend. Not sure why, the blue ones don't but I still buy them because I love that color.

AWE-SOME!

Wore them straight from the box on a 5 mile run and they felt like a glove! Comfort and fit were exceptional! No "breaking in" necessary! Already looking forward to my next run just to wear them! Saucony has done it even better!

stiff high heel

1

I've used Kinvaras for the past 4 years in distance training/racing and loved them until the Kinvara 3. The top of the heel is higher and much stiffer than the previous versions and cuts into the achilles tendon when running.

Heel Pain

1

I bought these for my wife after reading the multiple negative reviews, I thought maybe she would still enjoy them. I have the first version of Kinvara's and love them. She didn't run more than a mile before complaining that the pain was too much to handle. We will be returning these. I hope that Saucony corrects their error with the next version they release.

I bought these to run in. They are so colorful and fun, I may just use them as walking around shoes. They seem to fit and feel just like past Kinvara models.
