Trail running to me is motocross without the motorcycle, slower, less exciting, but easily accessable, and economical. I often relate things to my world of two wheeled exhileration. In this case, good shoes are like good tires, and your bike is only as good as its tires.
These shoes are all-around great, but not the best in the area of traction. The Brooks Trailblade is much better. As far as reliability, it's too early to tell, but I am skeptical. My last Sauconys were weak in the areas of material and construction.
Here's one shot I'll throw at all trail shoe manufacturers. The best color for trail shoes is DIRT COLORED! That's the color they end up in one week. Loose the flashy graphics already! I would give these new tires, er shoes 4 stars out of five for performance. For durability, it's too early to tell.

I am addicted to running/trail shoes. I have more than a dozen different ones. Some are "heavy duty" GTX, insulated, etc. for wet and winter. Some are lighter GTX (Merrill, Salamon, Northface, etc.)for just wet. I have three that are just light weight, dry weather trail. Brooks Cascadia 8, Asics GT2200 and now these Saucony.
I love these shoes! I love the bright colors but these shoes make me want to run. I chose them over the current Asics GT (2000?) with some trepidation, since the Asics GT is very close to the one I have (On my third pair).

Saucony Peregrine 3 Feels Good
Training for a trail marathon in November. Only had shoes a couple weeks and like the light weight feel and comfort on trails. Have done several 2+ hour training runs on sometimes rocky trails with long uphills and downhills and the shoes kept their (my) stability, and I had no soreness after those runs. They look fast so that is worth at least a minute or two in a marathon. I have nothing bad to say except possibly needing a little more protection in the toe box, although I have not experienced any toe problems to date.

Xodua is xcellent!
We live in Arizona and run some of the toughest terrain imaginable. I first got the Saucony Peregrine 3 and loved the minimalist feel and the traction. I didn't think it could get any better but the Xodus 4 is awesome! Traction is unbelievable! I finally gave up on my love affair with Asics when they started taking away the cushioning and had so many problems with the soles separating. I plan to stick with Saucony!
Lead Trail shoe
My new Saucony Peregrine shoes are my top pick for trail shoes. They are lightweight and low to the ground allowing me to gain miles on most any terrain. They also have excellent traction throughout the outsole which is very important when it comes to trail shoes.

Great overall trail shoe . The steeper and rockier the better for these shoes. The ride is firm but helps stability underfoot. The peregrine is light and comfortable.
Fair haven Nj
It is what it is, only better. That is, a heavier, sturdier Kirvana like trail running shoe for all training purposes, especially over long distances.
So far, so good
So far this has been a great shoe. I do alot of street running in the Saucony Kinvaras and love them, so the Peregrine is the natural choice for trail running.
Not for rough trails
Not great support for rough trails. Upper feels like it moves over lower section when jumping rocks and trees
A Great Trail (and road) Shoe
Great trail shoe that is suitable for road as well. Will be wearing them in Steamboat next week.
Good build and light
