I didn't understand the appeal of foam rolling until I tried it. This is INCREDIBLE on your muscles. It addresses soft tissue damage and soreness in a way stretching cannot. I didn't realize how tight some of my muscles were until I rolled them out on this. It is better than a deep tissue massage in my opinion. I use this at least once a day. It can be painful (like on the ITBand) but that indicates you NEED this and the pain does subside after some use. It is more relaxing on other muscles. Great for all runners. Use after runs to speed up recovery AND prevent injury. This is also good around the joints. I wish this particular foam roller were a little longer but I am still pleased with it, and can roll on both quads at the same time so it is not "too" small to get the job done. I also wish it came with an instructional DVD BUT there are plenty of online resources with videos. This foam roller is much better than the ones my gym carries (which are like larger/denser pool noodles). This is a much better quality that will last forever. As for the grooves, I really can't tell a difference from the smooth foam rollers but they are a nice addition. It seems a 2.0 version is coming out that is longer. It is a bit more costly. I would still purchase this one all over again. It is of great quality and JUST long enough. Will travel well. Get one...you'll be glad you did!
